Thetopworkingsurfacesof thenewsolidelementshavea protectivecoatingthatmustbe hardenedbeforeusingtheelements forthefirsttime.Tohardenthis coating,theelementsshouldbe heatedatthemaximumheatsetting withouta panfor3 to5 minutes.

Theuseofyoursolidelement cooktopisquitesimilartothatof anelectriccoil cooktop,with whichyouprobablyarefamiliar. Withbothtypesyouwillenjoythe cleanlinessofelectricityandthe benefitsof retainedheatinthe elements.However,thereare differences.

Thiscooktophastemperature limitersthatpreventthecooktop fromgettingtoohot.If the bottomofyourcannerisnotflat, thesolidelementcanoverheat, triggeringthetemperature limitemtoturntheunitofffora
time.Thiswillstoptheboilor
reducethepressureinthe
canner. Sinceyoumustmakesureto
processthecanningjamforthe prescribedtime,withno interruptioninprocessingtime, youcannotcanonthiscooktopif yourcannerisnotflatenough.
