Monitor series.
Monitor Audio builds high performance loudspeakers
to suit every budget and system requirement, be it
two-channel Hi-Fi, multi-channel AV or fully integrated.
Drawing directly on Monitor Audio’s 37 years at the
leading edge of metal drive unit technology, the
models in the Monitor Series have been designed to
deliver nothing less than benchmark shattering
The budget speaker is dead. Welcome to the
Monitor Series.
The Monitor series bass-mid drive unit, with its
professional-grade 8-point cap-head bolt fixings,
utilises MMP
®
II technology. An advance in driver
technology developed from Monitor Audio’s original
MMP
®
(Metal Matrix Polymer) cone material and uses
a high-pressure injection moulding process to achieve
different thickness at critical points of the cone
geometry. MMP
®
II provides better stiffness and
consistency and tighter production tolerances
resulting in superior sonic performance.
The bass-mid chassis design has a vented rear
section that reduces thermal power compression to
deliver increased dynamic range and higher sound
pressure levels. This venting also lowers distortion by
balancing the pressure within
the motor system. It means
clean, crisp bass and an even
clearer mid-range.
High frequency performance has
been improved in line. Further
development of the C-CAM
®
tweeter - in particular the profiling
of its surround and front plate
design - has resulted in a still
smoother response and better
dispersion.
The emphasis on sound quality and engineering follows
through to the crossover which uses high grade
capacitors, a low distortion-
laminated core and air core
inductors. And to the reflex port
design. The inside of the tube has
a smooth, soft matt coating which
greatly reduces air turbulence and
unwanted noise. Faster transfer of
air results in tighter, more precise bass performance.
Innovation.
M4
A svelte 2 1/2-way floorstander, the new M4 builds on the
considerable musical strengths of the M2 by providing greater
bass extension and weight. Rigid construction is again key to
achieving the clean, un-boxy sound.
The M4 employs multiple bracing positioned at critical resonance
nodes. The two 6.5-inch MMP
®
II drivers have been designed
specifically for the M4. The lower unit handles bass only, the other
provides punchy upper bass and a clear, natural mid-band right
up to the crossover point with the tweeter at 2.6 KHz. Unlike the
M2, the Monitor M4 has a reflex port at the rear as well as the
front. This is to provide maximum airflow at low frequencies and
reduces air pressure that can lead to bass compression effects.
For medium to large rooms or systems dedicated to home
cinema, the rear port can be blocked with a foam bung to tailor
the bass response. This allows greater placement flexibility in
smaller rooms. The effects are lower bass extension at the
expense of bass impact. High quality machined cone floor spikes
provide a stable platform and excellent isolation.
M2
The M2, is 2-way design intended for stand or shelf mounting. Its
6.5-inch MMP
®
II bass-mid driver is unique to it and designed to
deliver punchy, powerful bass and transparent mid-range right up
to the cross-over point with the tweeter at 2.8KHz. Special ‘figure
eight’ internal bracing gives very rigid construction, helping the
M2 to achieve a clean, un-boxy sound reminiscent of high end
speakers using very heavy or high-tech construction techniques.
The front-ported design makes siting less critical than with many
rivals speakers.
The Monitor M2 can be placed close to a rear wall without the
bass becoming boomy - a big advantage in smaller rooms.
M1
Don’t be fooled by the size. The baby of the Monitor series
delivers a sound that’s anything but small, rivalling far more costly
‘compact monitors’ for bass extension, mid-range resolution and
precise imaging within a stunningly open soundstage.
Rigid, low diffraction cabinet design and the superbly effective
combination of Monitor Audio’s 5.5-inch MMP
®
II bass-mid driver
and C-CAM
®
tweeter are the keys to the M1’s exceptional
performance and versatility in both stereo and multi-channel
applications.
