ConnectingYourVCR
Now that you're familiar with some of your VCR's features, you're ready to connect the antenna and the television. You won't have to complete all of the connections you see in this chapter -- make only those connections that apply to yo_Lr equipment.
You should keep in mind that there are t_o steps you need to take to connect your VCR: first, connect the antenna or cable to the VCR, then connect the VCR to the teh.wision.

Cableto the VCR
The first thing you need to do is connect the antenna or cable. Because there are at least; four different types of antennas, this chapter will show how to connect all of them. You don't need to make all the connections. First, find out what kind of _mtenna you have. Then, make the connection for that type of anter.ma. You can then go straight to the next section, =Connecting the Televi-
sion."
This section shows you:
Connecting cable antennas,
Connecting other antennas, and
Connecting separate UHF/VHF antennas.
Connectingcableantennas
If you have cable TV, this is the only az_t_nna you nee(] to hook up. Because some cable companies require a cable box (for un- scrambling cable signals), there are two t'Snds of cable connec-
tions shown: with and wi;hout a cable box.
connectingcablewithouta cablebox
Find the =source" cable. It usually comes out of the floor or out of a wall. If it is connected to your _[_', disconnect i:t.
@
Connect the cable to the ANTENNA IN terminal on the back of your VCR. Screw or push the cabl_ onto the terminal until
it is tight.
When you are finished, go to page 14, =Connecting the Televi-

If your cable box has audio and video outputs, follow the addi-
tional directions below.
Connect one audio cable to the left audio output termfllal on the cable box. Connect the other end oftIds cable to the AUDIO INPUT terminal on the VCR.
Connect one video cable to the video output terminal on the cable box. Connect the other end ofthi,; cable to the AUDIO INPUT terminal on the VCR.
Audio and video cables are available at your local electronics store.
If your cable company requires the use of a cable box, you can't record one channel while wat_-hing another. Iz.'you have questions concerning your cable system., please contact your cable company.
Connectingother antennas
If you don't have cable TV, you'll need to connect a regular an- tenna. Your antenna may have one of two dLflbrent kind of ends (called "leads") on it.
The two kinds of leads are:

Before you can attach the antenna leads to the adapter, you need to expose a 5/8 inch segment of _ach lead by scraping off the brown plastic covering. Sometimes these lead,_ have "U" shaped clips that fit around the screw, in which case you will not need to peel back the plastic.
Wrap each exposed end of wire once or twice around the screw shanks of the adapter (or insert the clips under the screw heads). Tighten the screws.
O Push the adapter firmly onto the anS_nna termin_fl on the
VCR labeled ANTENNA IN.

You may have two separate antennas (one UHF, one V-HF) that bring TV signals into your home. If you do, you'll need[ to combine
the two antennas into a single wire to colmect them tx) the VCR. To do this, you'll need an attachment called a combiner (which is
available at your electronics store). This chart will he].p you determine the kind of combiner you need.
If your UHF antenna wire looks ...and your VHF antenna wire like this.., looks like this...
...then you need a combiner
likethis.
