When using your phone equipment, basic safety precautions should alway s be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury to persons, in cluding the following:
• Do not use this product near water, for example, near a bath tub, wash
bowl, kitchen sink or laundry tub, in a wet basement or near a swimming pool.
• Avoid using a phone (other than a cordless type) during an electrical
storm. There may be a remote risk of electric shock from lightning.
• Do not use the phone to report a gas leak in the vicinity of a leak. Maintenance and Repair: There are no user serviceable parts inside the

Safety Precautions for the 5505 Cordless Handset
1. Fit only the recommended, rechargeable batteries (see See “Battery Specifications” on page4.), that is, never use any other battery type or non-rechargeable batteries as this could result in significant health risks and personal injury.
2. The operation of medical appliances may be affected. Be aware of the technical conditions in your particular environment, e.g. doctor's surgery.
3. Do not hold the rear of the handset to your ear when it is ringing. Otherwise you risk serious and permanent damage to your hearing.The handset may cause an unpleasant humming noise in hearing aids.
4. Do not use your phone in environments with a potential explosion hazard, for example, paint shops.
Disposal of Batteries
• Batteries should not be disposed of in general household waste. Observe
the local waste disposal regulations, details of which can be obtained from your local authority or the dealer you purchased the product from.
Emergency/911
• Emergency/911 numbers may not be dialed if the keypad is locked.
5505 Cordless Handset Battery Safety Precautions
To reduce the risk of fire, injury or electric shock, and to properly dispose of batteries, please read and understand the following instructions.CONTAINS NICKEL METAL HYDRIDE BATTERY. BATTERY MUST BE RECYCLED OR DISPOSED OF PROPERLY. DO NOT DISPOSE OF IN MUNICIPAL WASTE.
1. Only use the batteries specified for use with this product.
2. DO NOT USE NICKEL CADMIUM OR LITHIUM BATTERIES, or mix batteries of different sizes or from different manufacturers in this product. DO NOT USE NONRECHARGEABLE BATTERIES.
3. Do not dispose of the batteries in a fire; the cells may explode. Do not expose batteries to water. Check with local codes for special disposal instructions.
4. Do not open or mutilate the batteries. Released electrolyte is corrosive and may cause damage to the eyes or skin. The electrolyte may be toxic if swallowed.
5. Exercise care in handling the batteries in order not to short the batteries with conducting materials such as rings, brac elets, and keys. The batteries or conducting material may overheat and cause burns or fire.
6. Charge the batteries provided with, or identified for use with, this product only in accordance with the instructions and limitations specified in the user’s manual. Do not attempt to charge the batteries with any means other than that specified in the users manual.
7. Periodically clean the charge contacts on both the charger and handset.

The Mitel SIP-based IP guest room phone. The 5505 Guest IP Pho ne supports up to four 5505 Cordless Handsets. You can order additional 5505 Cordless handsets and chargers.
The 5505 Cordless Handset has an indoor signal range of up to 100 meters (300 feet) from the 5505 Guest IP Phone.

Preparing the 5505 Cordless Handset and Installing the Batteries
1. The display is protected by a plastic film. Remove the protective film.
2. Insert the batteries as designated on the back of the handse t. T he polarity is indicated on the battery compartment.
Battery Specifications

• SUPPO HSY-AAA0.55-C 550mAh The 5505 Cordless Handset is supplied with the recommended batteries.
Charging the 5505 Cordless Handset
1. Charge the battery. It is recommend that you charge t he battery fully before first use. It takes approximately 8 hours to fully charge the battery.
2. Then remove the handset for use.
3. Do not return the handset to the charger until the batteries are fully discharged.
Connecting and Registering the 5505 Guest IP Phone
The 5505 Guest IP Phone comes pre-paired with one 5505 Cordless Handset . Follow the instructions below to connect and register the first 5505 Cordless Handset and 5505 Guest IP Phone base station.
Turn on the Handset and Prepare the Base Station
1. Turn on the 5505 Cordless Handset using the power on button.
2. Set up the 5505 Guest IP Phone at a central location on a flat, non-slip surface. Turn the 5505 base station so that t he front faces away from you.
Connect the 5505 Base Station
3. Slide the battery cover back into the main casing until it clicks into place.

Thread the LAN cable plug through the slot on the back of the installed b ase
unit and plug it into the LAN port on the back of the phone.
Plug the other end of the LAN ca ble into one of the following:
• the phone port of an Ethernet power adapter. Then, connect the
Ethernet adapter to the LAN using a separate LAN cable, and plug the power adapter into an AC power outlet.
or
• a LAN-powered jack. The base unit initializes and establishes a connection with the 5505
Cordless Handset. The 5505 Cordless Handset will stop flashing "Base" indicating the successful DECT connection.
