Limitations
If the machine is exposed to an abrupt rise from normal to
high temperature and humidity, bleeding may occur in the
solid black areas immediately after the power is turned on.
Copy example
Instruction and preventive measures
The problem will be solved after making
several tens of copies.
Product Technical Information KM-5230
Conditions
• Conditions
The problem may appear immediately after
the power is turned on if the machine is exposed
to an abrupt rise from normal temperature
(20°C/68°F) and humidity (65% RH) to high
temperature (35°C/95°F) and humidity (85%
RH).
• Causes
If the machine is turned on after it is exposed
to an abrupt rise in temperature and humidity,
the toner per developer value is set higher than
the target value and the toner charge reduces.
Consequently, excess toner is transferred onto
the copy paper, causing the problem.
Due to the compacting of toner, a couple of white spots
may appear in light image areas.
Instruction and preventive measures
• Causes
Since the machine recycles toner, toner
compacting occurs as the printing process
repeats. The transferring of compacted toner
in light image areas on the copy paper may
cause the problem.
(3) Narrow white bands appear longitudinally.
Limitations
Longitudinal white bands may appear in light image areas.
Copy example
Instruction and preventive measures
Clean the shading plate.• Conditions
The problem may occur if dust or dirt enters the
machine while the contact glass is removed
and adheres to the shading plate.
• Causes
Dust or dirt on the shading plate changes the
white reference data and the machine
determines the dust or dirt as a white area.
If copies are made at low temperature, approximately 5
mm wide faint bands may appear in light image areas.
The problem could occur on solid black areas if temperature
is extremely low.
Copy example
Product Technical Information KM-5230
Instruction and preventive measures
Open and close the front cover to perform
an automatic cleaning of the transfer
section.
(5) Residual toner in the fixing section is transferred onto the copy paper.
Limitations
Residual toner in the fixing section may be transferred
onto the rear face of copy paper.
Example (rear face)
Instruction and preventive measures
• Conditions
The problem starts to appear in light image
areas at 18°C/64.4°F and 30% RH.
The problem starts to appear in solid black
areas at 10°C/50°F and 15% RH.
• Causes
At low temperature, toner or paper powder
adheres to wires in the transfer section and
reduces the discharge efficiency.
• Conditions
If copies are made approximately 10 seconds
after 300 or more sheets are copied
continuously, the residual toner in the fixing
section may be transferred onto the rear face
of the first sheet.
• Causes
Toner accumulated on claws in the fixing
section and the thermistor during continuous
copying is fused onto the heat or press roller by
overshooting of the fixing heater temperature
when the copy operation completes. The toner
is then transferred onto the next copy paper.
Faint dot marks may appear on the leading edge of the
copy paper (only noticeable when 50 or more sheets are
put together).
Example (front face)
Product Technical Information KM-5230
Instruction and preventive measures
Change the copy paper.• Conditions
The problem may appear if the copy paper is
curled upward during duplex copying. The
problem is more likely to occur in an
environment with a high temperature of over
28°C/82.4°F and a humidity of over 80% RH.
• Causes
If damp copy paper is used for duplex copying
at high humidity, the curl in the copy paper
hampers the separation and the separation
claws make contact with the paper, leaving
marks on it.
