Subject: Precaution when grid cleaning with the grid cleaner

Model:

Phenomenon & Cause:

When you clean the grid with the grid cleaner (‘GRID CLEANER 3 ASS’Y’ P/N: /AY00326), condensation
may form on the black resin pulley (indicated with circles in below fig.).
This may cause a main charger leak, and may result in abnormal images.
Therefore, please instruct the user to follow the procedure below.

Grid cleaning procedure:

1.) Pull the charger unit out untill it is in the position as in Fig.1.

2.) Insert the grid cleaner in the cut out.

3.) After pulling the charger unit out completely, push it back to the same position as in 1.) (See Fig. 2)

In order to keep the black resin pulley dry, DO NOT push the charger unit in completely!

4.) Repeat step (3) for about 4 to 5 times.

5.) Put the charger unit in the position of Figure 2 (5 cm out of the machine), remove the grid cleaner and
then insert the charger unit back completely in the machine.

6.) Wait for 5 minutes after grid cleaning procedure before using the machine.

Field Measure

A leaflet explaining the cleaning procedure with the grid cleaner will be packed together with the grid cleaner
in the box of the main charger when you order the maintenance kit. Please instruct the user to follow the
procedure.

Countermeasure

Furthermore, in order to prevent the problem of condensation to the charger wire, the shape of the charger
housing will be modified from November 2001 production.
