1 Message display .......................The message display shows the date, time, operation procedures and operational
errors.
2 Cursor keys............................... Press the cursor keys to select a function or item while making settings.
3 Enter key...................................Press the enter key to proceed to the next item or to store the data registered or set
for each function.
4 Interrupt key (indicator) ............. Press the interrupt key to make copies while receiving faxes. When the machine
enters the interrupt copy mode, the indicator lights.
5 Numeric keys ............................Use the numeric keys to enter a destination fax number. Numeric characters can be
transmitted as tone signals even if a pulse line is used. Press the
key after connecting to the destination number: numeric characters pressed from then on will be transmitted as tone signals.
6 Reset key .................................. Press the reset key to cancel an operation or return to the initial mode.
7 Stop/clear key ...........................Press the stop/clear key to return to the previous step in order to correct the entered
data.
8 Start key ....................................Press the start key to start fax communication.

COPY & FAX indicators ............ Press the COPY/FAX switching key to switch between the copy operation and fax
operation modes. When the copy indicator is lit, the machine is in the copy operation mode; when the fax indicator is lit, the machine is in the fax operation mode.

recently dialed number. Also, press the pause/redial key while entering a destination number to insert a few seconds of pause in-between numbers.
) Abbr./directory key.....................Press the abbr./directory key when using the abbreviated dialing function or directory
function.
One-touch keys (1 to 32)...........Use the one-touch keys when transmitting documents by one-touch dialing or when
entering characters. Fax (telephone) numbers for group dialing, chain dialing and program dialing can also be registered under the one-touch keys. When the cover plate is closed, these keys are used as one-touch keys 1 to 20; when the cover plate is open, these keys are used as one-touch keys 21 to 32.
¤ Resolution select key ................ Press the resolution select key to select the image quality of the transmitting
document.
Resolution indicators................. The resolution indicators are, from the top down, the fine indicator, super fine
indicator, ultra fine indicator and half-tone indicator. Select a resolution mode and thereby light an indicator by pressing the resolution select key. When all the indicators are turned off, the normal mode is selected.
Contrast select keys..................Press the contrast select keys to adjust the scanning density.
Contrast indicators .................... The contrast indicators light when the contrast select key is pressed to adjust the
scanning density. Usually, the middle indicator will be lit.
Machine Error indicator.............When the machine error indicator is lit, a paper jam or a mechanical error has
occurred.
Configure key ............................Press the confuigure key to configure settings related to facsimile use.
° Register key .............................. Press the register key to register information related to facsimile use.

ˆ Alternate display key .................Pressing the alternate display key in the dual access mode enables monitoring of
background operation. The screen on the message display switches to that for

(2) Registration

Date and time Set the current date and time.
Self station information Register the self telephone number, self station name and self station ID.
One-touch dialing Register destination fax (telephone) numbers and names under one-touch keys. Up to 32 entries can be registered.
Abbreviated dialing Register destination fax (telephone) numbers and names to desired abbreviated numbers (00 to 99). Up to 100 entries can be registered.
Group dialing Register multiple destination fax (telephone) numbers and names under a one-touch key for group dialing. Up to 32 entries can be registered.
Program dialing Register frequently used communication modes or fax numbers under one-touch keys. Up to 32 entries can be registered.
Chain dialing Register chain numbers and names under one-touch keys. Up to 32 entries can be registered.
Remote switching number Change the remote switching number, which is set to “55” at the factory, for receiving faxes using the telephone connected to the machine.
Management password Register a 4-digit password, which is set to “6482” at the factory, for encrypted communication.
Cipher key password Register a 16-digit cipher key password for encrypted communication.
Encryption boxes Register encryption boxes for receiving encrypted transmissions. Up to 15 boxes can be registered.
Permit telephone numbers and IDs Register the password (permit telephone number or ID) for password check communication.
F-code confidential boxes Register F-code confidential boxes for F-code based confidential communication. Up to 15 boxes can be registered.
F-code relay boxes Register F-code relay box for F-code based relay broadcast communication. Up to 15 boxes can be registered.
Access codes Register access codes for restricted access. Up to 50 codes can be registered.

1-2-3 Installing the optional add-on memory

Add-on memory installation on the fax control PCB assembly requires the following parts: 8 MB add-on memory (P/N: 2AW6001)

<Procedure>
1. Turn the main switch off and disconnect the power
plug from the wall outlet.
2. Remove the two screws holding the rear cover and
then the cover.
3. Remove the five screws holding the fax shield cover
and then the cover.
4. Insert the add-on memory into CN4 on the fax control
PCB. *Holding the add-on memory by the sides, insert it
into the socket as shown in the diagram, and then push it in the direction of the arrow until it clicks into place.

Description
Initializes software switches and all data in the SRAM on the fax control PCB, according to the destination and OEM.
Purpose
Used to initialize the fax control PCB.
Method
1. Press the start key. The screen for entering the destination code is displayed. Enter a destination code using the numeric keys (refer to the destination code list on page 1-3-5 for the destination code).
