Honda - Mini Air Conditioning Kit
Parts List: Evaporator/Heater with Dual-vent Face Plate, Condenser, Drier with
mounting bracket and hardware, A/C Compressor with Serpentine Belt (Only supplied
with Mini-Honda Air Conditioning Kit with Compressor), A/C Compressor plate,
Drain tubes, firewall grommets, and all of the hoses and fittings necessary for the
installation.
Evaporator/Heater Mounting: (Figure 1-1)
Step 1: Properly position evaporator to bottom line of lower dash (Note: Align face
plate with the contour of lower dash), and mark off location for mounting bracket
screw holes, holes for drain tubes and holes in firewall for refrigerant hoses to pass
through. Note: Sometimes it is necessary to relocate items along underside of dash to
make room for evaporator unit.
Step 2: Check for clearance on engine side of firewall. Set evaporator aside and make
holes for refrigerant hoses to pass through.
Step 3: Check for clearance on the underside of floor board. Drill a ¾” hole in floor
board for the drain tube to pass through.
Step 4: Use a small drill, approximately 5/32”, to make holes in metal framing of
under side of dash for evaporator mounting brackets. Evaporator mounting brackets
are a universal type angle bracket and may be adjusted to meet any mounting situation.
Step 5: Anchor evaporator to position. Note: It may be necessary to pre-connect
refrigerant hoses to evaporator before anchoring evaporator.
Condenser Mounting:
Mount in front of radiator using supplied hardware.
Drier Mounting:
Step 1: Measure 7” from the front side of the brake hose mounting tab and mark holes
to mount the drier using the mounting bracket. (See Figure 2-1)
Step 2: Drill the two 5/16” holes through both sides of the sub-frame tubing. Note:
Use black touch up paint to seal bare metal exposed by drilling.
Step 3: Mount the Drier to the sub-frame using the *1.5” bolts. (See Figure 2-1)
Compressor Plate Mounting:
Remove the stock compressor plate and replace it with the supplied plate. (See Figure
3-1) Note: Put 4 ounces of Ester oil in to the dry compressor.
Routing and Fitting Refrigerant Hoses:
Route all refrigerant hoses so that they will not interfere with the operation of the
Mini. The hoses to the condenser should be routed under the car on the right side.
All fittings will have identifiers on them. The identifiers will tell of the fittings
destination.
Evacuating the System:
Note: Evacuation and charging should only be performed by a Certified Air
Conditioning Technician.
Step 1: Evacuate the system for 15 minutes. A reading of 28 in. mercury at sea level
pressure should be obtained on low side of gauge. If this reading is not obtained, make
sure that all fittings are tight and retry.
Step 2: Close both charging manifold gauges for 5 minutes. Check the low side
reading before closing. If reading shows a rise in pressure after closing the gauges,
check for leaks.
a. To check for leaks with a leak detector, disconnect the vacuum pump and add a
small amount of refrigerant to the system. A pressure of 5 P.S.I. should be noted
on low side gauge.
b. Go over all connections, lines, and hoses with a leak detector to insure no leaks
are found.
Wiring:
Charging: Charging the system should be performed by a Certified Air
Conditioning Technician.
