This chapter describes the features of MP70 MinePhone, charging dock and how MinePhones are used as part of a larger communications system.
The Mine Site T echnologies’ MP70 MinePhone is a Voice over WLAN (VoWLAN) phone designed for use in hazardous mining environments. It provides two way voice and text communication over the underground wireless network. It has the following features:

Acoustic and echo cancellation
Emergency "Man Down" mode
Battery life of 48 hours standby, 4 hours talk time

1.3 Charging the phone

The MinePhone has a non-removable internal battery providing up to 48 hours standby and 4 hours talk time. It is charged when placed in the charging dock and connecting the po wer adaptor to a power source.

Charging Location
The charger should be placed in a well ventilated, non-hazardous area with access to a clean power source. In an Intrinsically Safe environment, the MinePhone is not permitted to be charged in a hazardous area. The handset must be returned to a non-hazardous area for charging. The ambient temperature for charging should be within 0-40°C.
Power Adaptor
The power adaptor will operate at 110-240V AC po wer and comes with several plugs for dif ferent regions. Check that you have been shipped with the appropriate power adaptor and plugs.
Caution: Use only charging docks and power adaptors approved by Mine Site Technologies. Use of any other type may be dangerous, breach Intrinsic Safety requirements and will void the warranty .
Charging Dock
The charging dock has two LEDs on the front to indicate the charging status.

1.4 Switching the MinePhone On and Off

The MinePhone can operate in two modes:

User mode — The User mode enables phone functionality and changing basic phone settings. To turn
on, press and hold down the power button for 3 seconds.
Administrator mode — The Administrator mode enables network and configuration settings to be
edited in the handset. To turn on, press and hold the # key before pressing the power button for 3 seconds. The screen will display "Admin" in the lower left corner before displaying the main screen.
To switch the phone off, press and hold down the power button for 3 seconds.
Note: Please ensure the phone is fully charged before deployment.

To access the menu:

1.6 MinePhones in a Network

The MinePhone has two modes of operation:

Infrastructure mode — MinePhones connect to the wireless network via an Access Point to perform
data and voice communications.
Ad-hoc mode — MinePhones operate without the need of a wireless network by connecting to each
other "peer to peer". This is illustrated in Figure 1.

Note: MinePhones must be in the same mode to communicate with each other.
The MinePhone can make and receive two types of calls:
Push to Talk (PTT) — Walkie talkie style communication.
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) — Calls can be made within the network (WLAN) or outside the network (to outside phone lines) depending on the SIP server configuration.
Refer to the MinePhone User Guide for making SIP calls and using PTT.
Network Configuration
If the wireless network infrastructure supports multiple SSIDs, it is recommended that an SSID be solely allocated for the MinePhones. For the fastest roaming performance, the recommended wireless security is WEP, Open Key using Key 1 on the Access Points. The VLAN associated with the MinePhone's SSID should be given highest priority in the site's QoS policies.
If the wireless network infrastructure uses a single SSID with data and voice transmitting over the network, then WPA2-AES security is recommended to ensure that the corporate data remains secure.

This chapter describes how to manually change the MinePhone settings when in Administrator mode. Refer to the section Switching the

2.1 Setting the Date and Time

The date and time is configured by accessing Menu > Settings > Phone Setup > Date/Time.
Select Set Date and Time.1

Use the keypad to enter the date and time. Use the Navigation key to scroll between digits and press Select.

2.2 Language Settings

The Language menu is accessed in Menu > Settings > Phone Setup > Language. Select English or Chinese and press Select to confirm the setting.

2.3 Auto Lock Key

The MinePhone keypad can be configured to auto lock after 60 seconds.

The keypad will auto lock after 1 minute, displayed as a padlock icon on

the screen. To unlock, press and hold the # key for 2 seconds.
Turning the Keypad Lock On and Off manually
The keypad can be manually locked and unlocked by pressing and holding the # key for 2 seconds.

2.4 Keylock PTT

The Keylock PTT feature will lock the PTT button when Auto key lock feature is enabled.

2.6 Sound settings

The Sound menu enables adjustment of speaker volume, alert tone and ring tone as described below.

Adjusting Talk volume during a call
During a call the speaker volume can be adjusted using the Navigation key .

2.7 Call Settings

Call settings can be accessed in Menu > Settings > Call Setup.
Call Waiting
The Call Waiting feature tells you if another caller is contacting when you are on a call. . Use the Navigation key to enable or disable and press Select.
The following table describes the call waiting options during a call.

The MinePhone will display when another caller is contacting you during a call. Press Answer to accept the call and the current caller will be put on hold.
During a call you can press Options to choose the following call waiting

End Back Call — Hangup the caller on hold
Swap — Revert the phonecall to the caller on hold
Mute — Mute the current call.

Earpiece Type
The overall speaker volume level can be selected when a earpiece is attached to the phone:
Remote Speaker Microphone — speaker volume will be louder when holding the earpiece / handset away from your ear.
Earpiece — Speaker volume will be reduced when holding the earpiece / handset closer to your ear.
Caution: Loud volume levels can potentially damage your hearing. Do not place Remote speak er microphone or handset near your ear when the Remote Speaker Microphone option selected.
Note: A Remote speaker microphone cannot be used in Intrinsically Safe environments. It will only function for MinePhones deployed in Hard Rock mines.
Mic for PTT
The MinePhone has two microphones: one at the top of the phone and one at the bottom. Either microphone can selected depending how the phone is held during PTT . Use the Na vigation key to select the desired
microphone, then press Select.

This chapter describes how to edit network settings on a MinePhone when it is in administration mode.
The Network Settings menu provides settings and modes for wireless connectivity and remote server locations. The MinePhone requires the following settings configured to connect to the network:
Access Point (AP) — wireless connectivity to the network via
access points.
SIP server — connection to the SIP server , which enables calls to
be made within the network and outside the network.
Real-time T ransport Pr otocol (RTP) — defines the packet format
for delivering audio over an IP network.
Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) server — contains
firmware, site and device specific configuration files which download to the phone on start-up.
Network Time Protocol (NTP) server — The handset
synchronises date and time from a NTP server.
DHCP Enablement — configuring the phone's IP address to be
static or dynamic using a DHCP server.
Network Mode — selection to use the phone in Ad-hoc or AP
mode.
Wireless channel configuration — Radio channels that connect
the phone to the network.
It is highly recommended thatnetwork settings for a fleet of MinePhones are centrally configured using the Mine Site T echnologies' ImPact Communication Appliance (ICA). Using ICA will simplify configuration, save time and minimise errors. Please refer to the ICA Administrator Console Setup Guide for details.
Text Input
Selecting a setting will open the current value in a text editable field. The following commands can be used across all of these menus:
Pressing OK will accept the current text and return to the last menu.
Pressing Back will backspace and edit the text.
The * key toggles between character and numerical input which is indicated in the top right of the screen.
Pressing a number key 2 to 9 repeatedly will cycle through the characters printed on the key until the required character appears. If the next character is located on the same key as the present one, wait until the cursor appears and enter the letter / number.
The # key will access the punctuation menu.

3.1 Access Point (AP) Configuration

The AP Config settings define the wireless network connection. The MinePhone must be restarted for changes to take effect.

3.2 Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Configuration

The SIP menu configures the phone's connection to the SIP server. The SIP menu options are described below. The MinePhone must be restarted for changes to take effect.

3.3 Real Transport Protocol (RTP) Configuration

RTP settings define the streaming of voice packet to and from the MinePhone. The RTP port options are described below. The MinePhone must be restarted for changes to take effect.

DTMF Mode
Dual Tone Multi-frequency Signalling (DTMF) is used in touch-tone dialling when dialling a number to determine which keys are pressed. The MinePhone has two modes:
Inband sends touch-tone signal as an
audible tone as part of the voice conversation.
RFC2833 specifies a different RTP
message for DTMF digits which reduces transmitted data.
RFC2833 or Inband. Default setting is RFC2833

3.4 Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) settings

The MinePhone connects to a TFTP server on the network to download firmware and configuration settings every time it is switched on. A DHCP server can be used to provide the TFTP server address to the phone. The table below describes the settings to connect to the TFTP server. The MinePhone must be restarted for changes to take effect.

3.5 Network Time Protocol (NTP) Configuration

NTP settings are used to configure a remote server that the phone will retrieve time and time zone settings from at startup. The NTP server address can be provided by a DHCP server. The MinePhone must be restarted for changes to take effect.

3.6 Internet Protocol Settings

The Internet Protocol settings are used to configure the MinePhone's IP address as static or dynamic via DHCP. The MinePhone must be restarted for changes to take effect.

3.7 Advanced Settings

These variables define wireless and hardware specific settings as described below. The MinePhone must be restarted for changes to take effect.

Ad-hoc Mode — MinePhones connect "peer to peer" when in range of one another.

Listen intervals can range from 1-16. The default setting is 1.
Wireless channels can be assigned to the phone as a range or specific channel/s. The text format to enter is either a list of numbers separated by commas (which define individual channels), or two numbers separated by a hyphen (which define a channel range). For example, 1-11 or 1,6,11.

3.8 Wi-Fi Survey

The WiFi Survey feature displays a list of Access Points (APs) that are in range of the phone and are configured to use the same SSID. It displays the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI ) and weight of roaming. There are two viewing modes which can be changed by pressing the Shift key.

The ImPact Communication Appliance (ICA) Administration Console has a graphical user interface for creating TFTP configuration files, which are notified to MinePhones via the ICA's built in TFTP server. This chapter is provided for administrators without access to an ICA system. It describes the manual setup of a TFTP server, editing configuration files and updating firmware.
TFTP is the protocol used for requesting and transmitting files to the MinePhone. A MinePhone can be configured so that every time it is switched on, it will connect to the TFTP server to download and apply configuration and firmware files. This method centralises management for a fleet of MinePhones without the need for a physical data connection.
The following steps are required to setup TFTP:
1. Configure a network for the MinePhones and the TFTP server.
2. Install and configure the TFTP server.
3. Manage and edit files to be sent to the phone.
4. Initiate upgrade and configuration.
5. Check settings.

4.1 Configuring the Network

MinePhones and the TFTP server need to be on the same network and IP address range. The simplest configuration is for phones and a TFTP server to be associated with an AP, which involves the follo wing:
1. Setup a server to run DHCP. Alternatively statically configure the IP settings of the TFTP server and
MinePhones.
2. View each phone's current IP address by going to Menu > Network > Network Info.
3. Test the connection by pinging the phone from a PC that is connected to the network.

4.2 TFTP Server Setup

There are many TFTP software packages on the market that can be used with the MinePhone.. The following procedure is an example to setting up tftpd32 server software:
1. Install and launch TFTP server software. Open the settings configuration panel.
2. Set the Root Directory where files are hosted, for example, c:\tftp.
3. Enable TFTP server.
4. Disable TFTP client and DNS Server.
5. Enable DHCP Server and SNTP Server if these don't already exist on the network.
6. Restart software for changes to take effect.
If other TFTP server software is used, refer to the product's user guide for setup details.

4.3 Firmware files

When the MinePhone connects to a TFTP server, it will request for several files to update the firmware:
miphone_firmware_site.txt — A text file that informs the phone about firmware updates. A different
firmware file can be sent to MinePhone with different hardware revisions.
mp70_firmware_x_x_x.bin — The binary firmware file where x_x_x is the v ersion number . The file
contains the phone firmware.
mp70_resource_x_x_x.bin — The binary resource file where x_x_x is the version number. The
resource file contains pictures, icons and ring tones.
T o minimise the time spent updating and to reduce network bandwidth, the miphone_firmware_site.txt file is read first by the MinePhone. If the information contained in the file indicates firmware changes, it will download the binary files and apply them to the phone. If there are no changes, the phone will not download the binary files.

4.3.1 Editing the firmware site file

The miphone_firmware_site.txt file can be edited using a text editor. The file contents and description are shown in the screenshot and table below.

Check the hardware version number corresponds to the MinePhones being upgraded. The firmware and resource binary files will be downloaded to the phone if the version and file name information is dif ferent to what is currently installed.

4.4 Configuration Files

There are several types of Minephone configuration files (as shown in Figure 2) that reside in the TFTP server root directory:
change.txt — A text file that tells the phones if there are updates to current settings that need to be
applied. This file must be present even if there are no changes. If the information contained in the file indicates changes in the settings or phone contacts, it will download the configuration files and apply them to the phone. If there are no changes, the phone will not download the files.
site_setting.conf — A configuration file containing global settings that are applied to all MinePhones
in the network.
miphone_site_phonebook.conf — A configuration file containing contact details to update contacts
to all MinePhones in the network.
miphone_XXXXXXXXXXXXXX.conf — A configuration file containing phone settings for a specific
handset. It is identified by phone's MAC address (XXXXXXXXXXXX) in the file name.

4.4.1 Editing the change.txt file

The change.txt file contains change numbers corresponding to the site settings and phone contact configuration files as shown in the screenshot below. This file is read first by the phone and if the change numbers are different to what is last read from the configuration files, it will download and apply the updated files from the TFTP server.

Note: To ensure configuration files are downloaded to the phone properly, the change number values in the change.txt file must be the same as in the miphone_site_setting.conf file and miphone_site_phonebook.conf files. 4.4.2 Editing Contacts

Phone contacts are managed on the server and cannot be edited by users. The miphone_site_phonebook.conf file contains phone contact details that will be downloaded to the MinePhones. It can be opened and edited using a text editor such as Notepad. An example and description is shown below.

The miphone_site_setting.conf file applies configuration settings to all MinePhones on the network. To edit the site settings file:

4.4.4 Editing Phone Specific Configuration files

The miphone_XXXXXXXXXXXX.conf file contains settings for a specific MinePhone. The handset recognises the specific file by reading the MAC address in the file name. There w ould be a phone specific configuration file for each handset contained in the TFTP server. These settings override the site wide settings.

Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) Configuration
To edit the file:
1. Open miphone_XXXXXXXXXXXX.conf in a text editor.
2. Assign a new ChangeNum value.
3. Edit the fields as required.
4. Save the file with the phone's MAC address in the file name. Place the root directory of the TFTP
directory, for example, c:\\tftp.
An example of a file is shown and described below.

4.5 Updating the MinePhone

The MinePhone can be configured to update in two ways:
1. Automatically update by enabling TFTP connection and entering the TFTP server address. Once
configured phone must be rebooted. Refer to Editing the Site Settings file and for configuration details.
2. Manually initiate TFTP download by navigating to Network > Signal Protocol > TFTP > TFTP download.
Once the phone is properly configured, it will download and apply change.txt, binary firmware files and configuration files one at a time. This process can take over 15 minutes if a firmware update is being applied.
Note:
Please ensure there is sufficient battery life before updating.
After applying the changes the firmware and resource version numbers are displayed in the bottom right of the screen when the phone is restarted.

Maintenance

The MinePhone is an important communication device to improve safety and productivity. It should be treated with care and regularly maintained.
Inspection before use
Before taking a MinePhone into a hazardous environment, it is the responsibility of the user to ensure that the hardware appears fit for use.
1. Check the integrity of the enclosure.
2. Check the screen legibility.
3. Ensure wireless connection to a network.
4. Ensure it has been assigned a phone extension.
Report any issues immediately.
Battery Management
For safety the MinePhone has an inbuilt battery that can only be accessed by a qualified MST technician. The phone battery has a life of 36 months, after such time operational runtime will be reduced. It is recommended that a battery register be kept on site indicating the last date of battery change for each device.

Hardware Warranty

Mine Site Technologies provide a 12 month warranty for hardware supplied to the original purchaser. Mine Site Technologies warrants that the hardware supplied will be free from material defects in workmanship and materials from the date of original purchase.
Mine Site Technologies will repair or replace the defective hardware during the warranty period at no charge to the original owner. Such repair or replacement will be rendered by Mine Site Technologies. Mine Site Technologies may at its sole discretion replace the defective hardware (or any part thereof) with a reconditioned product or parts that Mine Site Technologies determines is substantially equivalent (or superior) to the defective hardware. Repaired or replacement hardware will be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period from the date of original purchase. All hardware (or part thereof) that is replaced by Mine Site Technologies shall become the property of Mine Site Technologies upon replacement.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THIS EQUIPMENT. Mine Site T echnologies End-User License Agreement ("EULA") is a legal agreement between you (either
an individual or a single entity) and Mine Site Technologies. Mine Site Technologies (MST) firmware may include associated software components, media, printed materials and electronic documentation. By installing, copying or otherwise using MST firmware, you agree to be bound by the terms of this EULA. This license agreement represents the entire agreement concerning the program between you and Mine Site Technologies, and it supersedes any prior proposal, representation or understanding between the parties. If you do not agree to the terms of this EULA, do not install or use the software.
1. GRANT OF LICENSE
The MST firmware is licensed as follows:
(a) Installation and Use
Mine Site Technologies grants you the right to install and use copies of the MST firmware on associated MST hardware.
(b) Backup Copies
You may also make copies of the MST firmware if necessary for backup and archival purposes.
2. DESCRIPTION OF OTHER RIGHTS AND LIMITATIONS (a) Maintenance of Copyright Notices
You must not remove or alter any copyright notices on any and all copies of the MST firmware.
(b) Distribution
You may not distribute copies of MST firmware to third parties.
(c) Prohibition on Reverse Engineering, Decompilation, and Disassembly

Mine Site Technologies may provide you with support services related to the MST firmware. Any supplemental activation codes pro vided to you shall be considered part of the MST firmware and subject to the terms and conditions of this EULA.
(f) Compliance with Applicable Laws
You must comply with all applicable laws regarding use of the MST firmware.
3. TERMINATION

Without prejudice to any other rights, Mine Site Technologies may terminate this EULA if you fail to comply with the terms and conditions of this EULA. In such event, you must destroy all copies of the MST firmware in your possession.

All title, including but not limited to copyrights, in and to the MST firmware and any copies thereof are owned by Mine Site Technologies. All title and intellectual property rights in and to the content which may be accessed through use of the MST firmware is the property of the respective content owner and may be protected by applicable copyright or other intellectual property laws and treaties. This EULA grants you no rights to use such content. All rights not expressly granted are reserved by Mine Site Technologies.
5. NO WARRANTIES
Mine Site Technologies disclaims any warranty for the MST firmware. The MST firmware is provided 'as is' without any warranty of any kind, including but not limited to any warranties of merchantability, non-infringement, or fitness of a particular purpose. Mine Site Technologies does not warrant or assume responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of any information, text, graphics, links or other items contained within the MST firmware. Mine Site Technologies makes no warranties respecting any harm that may be caused by the transmission of a computer virus, worm, time bomb, logic bomb, or other such computer program. Mine Site Technologies disclaims any warranty or representation to authorised users or to any third party.
6. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
In no event shall Mine Site Technologies be liable for any damages (including, without limitation, lost profits, business interruption, or lost information) rising out of 'authorised users' use of or inability to use the MST firmware, even if Mine Site Technologies has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
