OPERATIONAL GUIDE
• Remove t he electrod e cap and im merse the m eter in MA9015 storag e soluti on f or 2 hours to activat e the el ec trode.
• Turn the meter on by pressing the ON/OFF button. All the used segments on the LCD will be visib le f or 1 sec ond or as long as the button is pressed.
• Immers e the electr ode in the s olution to be tested. Stir gently and wait for the reading to stabilize, i.e. the instability indicator (hourglass) on the LCD turns off.
• The pH value is automatically compensated for tem peratur e and will b e displayed on the main LCD, while the temperat ure is shown on the secondary LCD.
To freeze the display, while in measurement mode, press and hold th e SET/HOLD butt on. The “H O LD” message appears on the secondary display and the reading will be frozen on the LCD.
Press an y butt on t o r etur n to normal mod e.
To turn the meter off, pr ess th e ON/OFF button. The “OFF” message will appear on the secondary display. Release the button.
Note:
• Before taking any measurement, make sure the met er is c alibrat ed (th e CAL t ag is on ).
• After use always turn the meter OFF, rinse th e el ectr ode wit h wat er to mini m ize contamination and store it with a few drops of storage (MA9015) or pH7 (M10007) solution in the protective cap.
NEVER USE DISTILLED OR DEIO NIZED
WATER FOR STORAGE PURPOSE.
CALIBRATION PROCEDURE
For better accuracy, f requent cali bration of
the t ester is r ecom mend ed. Cali bration is also necessary after electrode replacement, after testing aggressive chemicals and where extreme accuracy is required.
• From norm al operation mod e, press and hold the ON/OFF/CAL button until the “OFF” message
on the secondary LCD is substituted by
“CAL”. Release the button.
• The instrument enters the calibration mode by displaying “pH 7.01 USE” (or “pH 6.86 USE” if the NIST buffer set was selected).
• F or a single-po int c a l ibr ation, immerse the electrod e in any buf fer, i. e. pH 4.01, 7.01 (or 6.86), 1 0.0 1 (or 9.1 8) .
• The met er activat es the aut omatic buf fer recognition. If no valid buf fer is det ected, the meter keeps the USE indication act iv e f or 1 2 s econds, and th en replac es it with W R NG, indic ating th at the sampl e
being measured is not a valid buffer. Otherwise, if a valid buffer is detected, then its value is shown on the primary display, and REC appears on the secondar y LC D.
• If the pH 7.01 (or pH 6.86) was used, press the SET button to exit the Calibration mode and the “OK 1” messag e will appear on the dis play. T he first calibration point is stored and the meter returns to normal measurement mode.
For better accuracy, it is always recommended to perform a 2-point calibration.
• For a two-point c a lib r a t ion, immerse the
electrode in p H 7. 0 1 (or pH 6.86) buffer solution.
• After the firs t point has been accepted,
the meter will th en ask for t he second buffer and th e mess age „pH 4. 01 US E” will appear .
• Rinse the electrode and immerse it in
the secon d soluti on (pH 4. 01, 10.01 or
9.18).
• If a valid buf fer value is detec ted, the
REC message is displayed and the meter completes the calibration procedure. The LCD shows the accepted value with the „OK 2” messag e and the inst rument r eturns t o the normal measurement mode. Otherwise, if no val id buff er is detect ed, the meter displays the WRNG message.
Note: When the calibration procedure is
completed, the CAL tag is turned on.
To quit the proced ure and return to the last calibration data, after entering the calibration mode pr ess th e ON /OF F b utt on. The secondary LCD displays “ESC” for 1 second an d then the meter ret urns to the normal meas urement m od e.
To res et to th e defau lt va lues and cl ear a previous c alibration, press the SET/ HOLD button after entering the calibration mode and bef ore the first point is accepted. The secondary LCD displays “CLR” for 1 second, the meter resets to the default calibration and the CAL tag on the LCD turns off.
SETUP
Setup mode allows the selection of temperature (°C or ° F) and pH buf fer set for calibration. To enter the Setup mode, press the ON/OFF button until “CAL” on the secondar y LCD is r eplaced by “TEMP” and the current temperature unit (e.g. TEMP °C). Then:
for °C/°F selection: use the SET/HOLD button; then press the ON/ OF F butt on onc e to ent er the buf fer set sel ection or t wice to return to the nor m al m eas urement m od e.
to change th e calibrat ion buffer set: after setting th e tem p erature unit, pr ess ON/ OFF once and select the buffer set (“pH 7.01 BUFF” or “pH 6.86 BUFF” for NIST) by using the SET/HOLD button. Press
ON/OFF to return to the normal measurem en t m od e.
ELECTRODE REPLACEMENT
• Remove th e protective c ap and unscrew the plastic rin g on the top of the elec t r od e.
• Pull out the MI56P electr ode and rep lace it with a new one.
• Make sure the gaskets are in place before screwing back the ring.
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
When the batteries become weak, the battery symbol on the LCD will light up t o advise that only a f ew h our s of w or ki ng t i m e is remaining. The meter is also provided with BEPS (Battery Error Prevention System), which avoids any erroneous readings due to low battery level by automatically switching the meter off. It is r ecommended to rep lace t he batteri es immediately. To replace the batteries unscrew the battery compartment cap and replace all four 1. 5 V b at t er i es whil e paying atten tion to their polarity. Make sure the gasket is in place before screwing back the cap. Batteries should only be replaced in a nonhazardous area using t he battery type specified in this instruction m an u al.
