Disposal of packing material
Disposal of your old appliance
The transport and protective packing material has been selected from materials which are environmentally friendly for disposal and can normally be recycled.
Rather than just throwing these materials away, please ensure they are offered for recycling.
Old appliances may contain material which can be reclaimed or recycled. Please contact your dealer, your local waste collection centre or scrap merchant about potential recycling schemes. Ensure that the appliance presents no danger to children while being stored for disposal.
Disposing of the dustbag and filters
These are made from environmentally friendly materials and can be disposed of with the normal household waste. The dustbag should only be disposed of in this way if it has been used exclusively for general household dust.

Before using the appliance for the first time read these operating instructions carefully. They give information on the safety, on the operation and care of the appliance. Please keep these operating instructions in a safe place for reference, and pass them on to any future users.
Correct usage
This vacuum cleaner must only be used for household purposes. It is
only intended for use in a dry situation.
Any other usage is at the owner’s risk and could be dangerous. Do not use on people or animals. The manufacturer cannot accept responsibility for damage caused when the appliance is not used according to the instructions, or for uses other than those for which it was intended.
Children
Do not let small children play with
the appliance or operate it. Please supervise its use by older children and the elderly or infirm.
T e chnical safety
To avoid the danger of damaging
the appliance, before using it for the first time, make sure that the electrical connection in the house and the details on the appliance data plate correspond. Consult a competent person if in doubt.
The plug must be fitted with a 13A
fuse (UK).
Never operate the appliance if it
shows any signs of damage, particularly to the cable, the electro-telescopic tube or the electro-suction tube (check these regularly). A damaged appliance could be dangerous.
Always disconnect from the mains
supply for cleaning or maintenance work (switch off at the wall socket and remove the plug).
Repairs to the appliance should
only be carried out by a suitably qualified and competent person. Repairs by unqualified persons could be dangerous. The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for unauthorised work.
If the cable is damaged it should
be replaced together with a complete cable rewind by a service engineer.

Warning and Safety instructions
Warning and Safety instructions
Clean only with a dry cloth or
slightly damp cloth when disconnected from the mains supply. Never dip in water. If moisture gets into the appliance there is the risk of an electric shock.
The electro-suction hose and the
electro-telescopic tube contain electrical wires. The plug connectors must not come in contact with water. These items may only be cleaned with a dry cloth, no moisture must touch them. Danger of electric shock.
A temperature limiter switches the
vacuum cleaner off automatically if it gets too hot. With some models there is a warning light to indicate "Warning - Overheating". This can occur if, for instance, large articles block the suction tube or when the filter bag is full. A heavily soiled exhaust or dust compartment filter can also be the cause of overheating. In this case, please switch off the vacuum cleaner. After remedying the cause wait for a period of approx. 20 - 30 minutes, so that the appliance can cool down. It can then be switched on again.

Warning and Safety instructions
Disposal of an old appliance
To avoid the risk of injury when va-
cuuming with a Miele Electro- or Turbobrush do not touch the rotating roller brush.
The Miele Electrobrush is a motor
driven accessory specially designed for use with Miele vacuum cleaners. For safety reasons, the use of an electrobrush made by another manufacturer is not permitted.
It is not advisable to vacuum di-
rectly with the handle, i.e. without an accessory attached as the rim could get damaged and you could hurt yourself on sharp edges.
Miele vacuum cleaner bags are dis-
posable and intended to be used only once. Do not attempt to re-use.
Use only genuine Miele dustbags,
filters, accessories and optional accessories. This ensures optimum performance of the vacuum cleaner throughout its life.
When disposing of an old ap-
pliance cut the cable off the appliance as close to the cleaner as possible and cut the plug off. The plug cut from the cord should be dispposed of and on no account be inserted into any socket elsewhere in the house (electric shock hazard). See section "Disposal of your old appliance" earlier in this booklet for further advice.
The manufacturer cannot accept responsiblitiy for damage caused by not observing these Warning and Safety instructions.

Insert the elbow into the suction socket.
When inserting the elbow ensure that the guide groove on the elbow lines up with the notch in the suction socket on the vacuum cleaner and that the plug connectors fit correctly.
To remove the suction hose from the vacuum cleaner:
Press the release buttons at the side of the elbow and lift the hose from the socket.

Using the Electrobrush
The Electrobrush is particularly suitable for carpets and fitted floor coverings which are subject to hard wear, especially those areas which are most frequently trodden on. In addition the Electrobrush can be used on smooth flooring surfaces. The standard floorhead (available as an optional accessory) or the Miele parquet floorbrush should be used to clean delicate hard flooring and floor surfaces which are susceptible to scratching.
The following should not be vacuumed using the Electrobrush:
– Floor surfaces with a variable or
uneven profile. The brush might come into contact with the floor and cause damage.
– Carpets such as saxony with very
long pile, berber and sheepskin rugs, and valuable hand-knotted carpets, e.g. Persian and similar. There is a danger that threads can be pulled out.
When in doubt please consult your carpet specialist.
Fitting the electrobrush to the vacuum cleaner
Insert the electro-telescopic tube into the Electrobrush. (Ensure that the plug connectors line up). They must lock together with a click.
For further information on use and maintenance please refer to the separate instructions supplied with the Electrobrush.
