Zune and Zune Headphon es
Hearing Loss
Zune can be loud enough to permanently damage your hearing. To protect your hearing when usin g Zune:
3
Keep the Volume Low
Set the volume loud enough to hear clearly in quiet surroundings, and no louder.
Do not increase the volume af ter you start » listening. Your ears can adapt over time so that high volume sounds normal, but the high volume may still damage your hearing.
Do not increase the volume to block out outside » noise. The combination of outside noise and sound from your headphones can damage your hearing. Seale d or noise-canceling headphones can reduce outside noise so that you don’t have to turn up the volume.
If you can’t understand someone nearby speaking normally, turn down the volume. Sound that drowns out normal speech can damage your hearing. Even with sealed or noise-canceling headphones, you should be able to hear nearby people speak.
Minimize Your Time Listening to Loud Sound
The more time you spend exposed to loud sound, the more likely you are to damage your hearing. The louder the sound, the less time it takes to damage hearing.
Minimize your time listening to loud sound. At » maximum volume, listening to music on Zune with Zune Headphones can permanently damage your hearing in 15 minutes.
Even lower volumes c an damage hearing if you are » expose d for many hours.
All of the sound that you are exposed to during a » day adds up. If you are exposed to other loud sound, it takes less time listening to Zune at high volumes to cause hearing damage.
To safely use Zune with no time limit, keep the » volume low enough that you can carry on a conversation with people nearby.
4
Replacement Headphones May Be Louder
Other headphones may be louder than Zune Headphones, even if the volume control set ting is the same. When you change headphones, always reset the volume st arting from a low level.
Be Aware of Hearing Loss Symptoms
Stop using Zune and have your hearing checked if:
You experience any hearing loss. » You hear ringing in your ears. »
Your speech sounds mufed. » Sound seems dull or at. »
It is a good idea to have your hearing checked regularly by an audiologist. For more information, see www.zune.net/safety.
Be Aware of Your Surroundings
Do not use Zune Headphones or watch videos while
driving, cycling, or walking near trafc. Avoid adjusting
Zune FM transmitter controls while driving. It is safest
to adjust the controls while stopped or have a passenger adjust them .
Always keep the volume low enough to hear people
talking and sounds that might indicate danger, like re
alarms.
Avoid Infections with Zune Headphones
Dirty Zune Headphones can lead to ear infections. Clean your headphones frequently with an antiseptic, such as isopropyl alcohol. If the headphones cause irritation, stop using them. This could be a sign of infection, or lead to infection.
Zune Player
Battery Safety
The Zune player cont ains a built-in battery, improper use of which may result in explosion. Do not heat, open, puncture, mutilate, or dispose of the produc t in
5
re. Do not leave Zune in direct sunlight for an
extended period of time, which could cause melting or battery damage.
Boarding Aircraft
Before boarding any aircraft or packing a Zune wireless player in luggage that will be checked, turn the product off. This wireless player can transmit radio frequency
(RF) energy, much like a cellular telephone, when the
wireless player is turned on. Turn off Zune wireless
when using the Zune player in ight. To do this, go to
Settings, select Wireless, and then select Off.
Photosensitive Seizures
A very small percentage of people may experience a seizure when watching cer tain visual images, including
ashing lights or patterns that may appear in videos
including games, ads, movies, or other uses of video images. Even people who have no history of seizures or epilepsy may have an undiagnosed condition that can cause these “photosensitive seizures” while watching videos.
These seizures may have a variety of symptoms, including lightheadedness, altered vision, eye or face
twitching, jerking or shaking of arms or legs,
disorientation, confusion, or moment ary loss of awareness. Seizures may also cause loss of
consciousness or convulsions that can lead to injur y from falling down or striking nearby objec ts.
Immediately look away, stop playing (v ideo games),
and consult a doctor if you experience any of these symptoms. Parents should watch for or ask their children about the above symptoms —children and teenagers are more likely than adults to experience these seizures.
The risk of photosensitive seizures may be reduced by taking the following precautions:
View the screen from as far away as possible. » Use a smaller screen if possible. »
6
Watch or play videos in a well-lit room. » Do not watch or play videos when you are drowsy »
or fatigued.
If you or any of your relatives have a histor y of seizures or epilepsy, consult a doctor before playing.
Touch-Screen Warning
The touch screen on the Zune player is made of glass . This glass could break if the player is dropped on a
hard sur face or receive s a signicant impact. If the
glass chips or cracks, do not touch or attempt to remove the broken glass. Cracked or chipped glass due to misuse or abuse is not covered under the product’s limited warrant y.

Any evidence of any attempt to open and/or modif y the player, including any peeling, puncturing, or removal of any of the labels, will void the Limited Warranty.
Heed all warnings and follow all instructions.
Cable and Cord Safety
Arrange all cables and cords so that people and pets are not likely to trip over or accidentally pull on them
7
as they move around or walk through the area. Do not allow children to play with cables and cords.
Health Warning
Use o f electron ic input dev ices may be linked to
serious injuries or disorders. When using a computer,
as with many activities, you may experience occasional discomfort in your hands, arms, shoulders, neck, or other par ts of your body. However, if you experience symptoms such as persistent or re currin g discomfort, pain, throbbing, aching, tingling, numbness, burning sensation, or stiffness, DO NOT IGNORE THESE WARNING SIGNS. PROMPTLY SEE A QUALIFIED HEALTH PROFESSIONAL, even if symptoms occur when you are not wor king at your computer. Symptoms like these can be asso ciated with painf ul and sometimes
permanently disabling injuries or disorders of the
nerve s, muscles, tendons, or other parts of the body.
These musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) include carpal
tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, tenosynovitis, and other conditions.
While researchers are not yet able to answer many questions about MSDs, there is general agreement that many factors may b e linked to their occurrence, including: overall health, stress and how one copes with it, medical and physical conditions, and how a person positions and uses his or her body during work and other activities (including use of a keyb oard or
mouse). The amount of time a person per forms an
activity may also be a factor. Some guidelines that may help you work more
comfortably with your computer and possibly reduce your risk of experiencing an MSD can be found in the “Healthy Gaming Guide” available at w ww.xbox.com. Guidelines also appear in the “Healthy Computing Guide” at w ww.microsof t.com/hardware or (in the
United States only) by calling (800) 360-7561 to
reques t a CD at no char ge. If you have questions about how your own lifestyle, activities, or me dical or physical condition may be related to MSDs, see
