Description
Using Gigabit Ethernet with the 1000Base-SX standard the normal distance limitation is
for 50/125 µm fiber 550 m and for 62,5/125 µm fiber 275 m.
The Gigabit extender is for the transmission of Gigabit services over multimode fiber
with distances up to 2 km.
Due to this the migration of existing multimode backbones to future proof Giagbit
services can be realised very easy and cost effective. Changing the existing multimode
fibers to single mode is not necessary.
The use of this device is not limited to Gigabit Ethernet (1.25 Gbit/s). Also other
protocols like Gigabit Fibre Channel (1.0625 Gbit/s) can be transmitted with this
converter.
Configuration
The Gigabit extender belongs to a wide product range of modular converter for the
mounting in the MICROSENS modular chassis. Beside the desktop chassis with one or
two slots, the user can choose bewteen different 19" chassis with up to 12 slots. The
converter can be combined with all other modules of the same series. Optional the
converter can be integrated into the existing SNMP/web based management platform.
A second power supply (MS416004) can be inserted for redundant power supply. In this
case only 10 slots can be used with converter mosuled. If not all slots are used, the
unsused slots should be covered with blank covers. These blank covers are not included
at delivery and must be ordered seperately.

Beside the 3 HU chassis there is also a 1 HU chassis for three modules (mounted
horizontally) available. This chassis has an internal power supply (MS416006), which can
be redudant (MS416007) if necessary.
In addition to these 19" chassis MICROSENS offers also desktop chassis (MS417001).
