2 Introduction
The VSC8221 device is a low-power, Gigabit Ethernet transceiver suited for Ethernet Switches with SGMII
/SerDes MAC interfaces, Media Converter applications, and SFP/GBIC modules. The VSC8221 device also
includes Vitesse’s VeriPHY Cable Diagnostics feature.
This document describes the operation of the VSC8221 Evaluation Board (VSC8221EV). The Quick Start
section describes how to install and run the graphical user interface (GUI) to fully control the evaluation
board.
