2. Installation
2.1 Preparing the Site
Select the site that meets the following requirements:
Characteristic Requirement
Temperature 0 to 40˚C Humidity 10% ~ 90%, non-condensing
2.2 Settling the Switch
The switch can sit on desktop or be mounted on the wall by magnetism, which two rubber magnet stands provide. Step 1: Simply put the two rubber magnet stands on the button of switch. Step 2: Mount the switch on the wall.
2.3 Connecting to Power
Locate the provided AC power cord. Step 1: Connect the power adapter to the receptacle at the back of the switch. Step 2: Attach the plug into a standard AC outlet with a voltage ranging from 100 to 240 VAC. Step 3: The power LED on the front panel will come on then.
2.4 Connecting to Network
Step 1: First, ensure the power of the switch (and end devices) is turned off.
L It may cause electric shock or any possible harm to you if the power is not switched off.
Step 2: Prepare cable with corresponding connectors for each type of port in use. Step 3: Connect one end of the cable to the switch and the other end to a desired device. Step 4: Once the connections between two end-devices are made successfully, turn on the power.
SP607F A/B provides 6 RJ-45 ports of 10/100M, plus 1 fiber port of 100M. Just connect your stations to it and play. These RJ-45 ports support auto-uplink, and you can make inter-switch connection with no more cross-over cable.
For fiber connections, operation mode is forced to 100M and full duplex without auto-negotiation. Two alternative models can be selected for different connections: SP607F A is equipped with ST connector, and SP607FB is equipped with SC connector.
5
For cable selection, refer to the following table
Network Speed Cable Ty pe Max. Length
10Mbps Cat. 3, 4, 5 UTP/STP 100 meters
Cat. 5 UTP/STP 100 meters 100Mbps Fiber, 50 or 62.5/125µm multi-mode
2000 meters
Note: To prevent costly equipment damage a nd dow ntime, please consider installing a surge suppression device or a UPS (Un-interrupted Power Supply).
3. Configuration
3.1 Setting UP Connection
SP607FA/SP607FB is embedded in an http server, and users can access it by web browser over Internet. Default system information of SP607FA/B is
IP address: 192.168.0.2 Mask: 255.255.255.0
Login Password: 123
3.2 Main Page
After passing the authentication, the main page appears as below.
On the main page, you can select the configuration by clicking the menu tabs located on the left side of the UI. It includes:
Port Setup IP Setup VLAN Setup Password Setup Restore Default Reboot Device
3.3 Port Setup
On the page, you can view the Port status, and set up the Speed/Duplex mode. All TX ports can be enabled auto-negotiation with other end of link for 100Full, 100Half, 10Full, and 10Half. They also can be forced to specified operation modes without auto-negotiation.
6
3.4 IP Setup
The switch must be assigned an IP address before it can be managed via web browser. The switch provides two methods for IP configuration:
DHCP mode:
The switch supports DHCP client, and can request a dynamic IP address from the first discovered DHCP server in the network when boot up. In general, the assigned IP can be monitored in the client list on the DHCP server. The model name and MAC address of the switch is referred as the DHCP client ID.
If no DHCP server is discovered after a retry period for about 40 seconds, the pre-configured static IP is used automatically.
Static mode:
One pre-configured IP address is used when DHCP mode is disabled or when DHCP mode is enabled and no DHCP server is available.
7
Note: Any changes are only effective after next bootup.
3.5 VLAN Setup
SP607FA/SP607FB supports two modes of VLAN: One is Port-based VLAN, and the other is 802.1Q tag-based VLAN. There are three necessary configurations for VLAN setup:
VLAN Mode: Port-based or 802.1Q VLAN VLAN mapping table setup: Setup member ports of VLAN Port PVID setting: Setup PVID and Tag
Port-based VLAN Mode
This mode supports 16 VLAN groups, Group 0 ~ Group 15. Select Yes to setup members of VLAN in VLAN mapping table. One port can
belong to more than one VLAN groups.
Per port PVID setting is used for index to VLAN Group table. Packet is inserted
with PVID (ex. 3) of the input port as VLAN ID and new CRC. Then, traffic forwarding is performed only among all member ports of VLAN group (ex. 3).
8
Note: Tag mode settings are preset with untagged mode for all ports and not changeable in Port-based VLAN mode. VLAN tag in every input tagged packet is ignored.
802.1Q tag-based VLAN Mode
This mode supports 16 VLAN groups, Group 0 ~ Group 15. Select Yes to setup members of VLAN in VLAN mapping table. One port can
belong to more than one VLAN groups.
Per port PVID setting is used for index to VLAN Group table when an untagged
packet is received. Packet is inserted with PVID (ex. 3) of the input port as VLAN ID and new CRC. Then, traffic forwarding is performed only among all member ports of VLAN group (ex. 3). The tagged packet is received and forwarded with no change.
For outbound transmission, Tag mode of the output port is applied as follows:
Tagged port
: The packet is forwarded with no change.
Untagged port:
The VID of the packet is removed and forwarded with new CRC.
Note: To provide more flexibility for LAN administrator in performing web management task, the internal MNG port which connects to the embedded Http server is disclosed for PVID configuration. The MNG port is also configured as the member port for all VLAN groups and untagged port permanently.
3.6 Password Setup
To change password setting, enter your new password and reconfirm the input again. Click on Apply to apply the new password immediately.
9
3.7 Restore Default
Enter the page of Restore Default and then click on Restore button.
Note: One “RESET” button located on rear panel is used to disable DHCP mode and restore setting back to default. It is useful when the switch is out of control by loss of IP address or login password. To make the function work, push the button before the switch is powered on, and keep until all LEDs light for the second time.
3.8 Reboot Device
The command is used to reboot the switch remotely over the network. Normally, it is used after IP settings are changed.
