5-WAY NAVIGATION SWITCH
The Micron RS models are controlled entirely by a 5way “navigation” switch, which can move in left , right , up and down directions and can also be pushed in the centre , as follows –
TO SWITCH UNIT ON
Press and release the centre , of the navigation switch. The unit will emit a three-tone beep and the display will illuminate, showing the default editing screen as follows -
NOTE: Diagram shown is Micron RS1. RS2 does not have the centre (vibration) icon shown in the display.
The speaker icon will be flashing initially. If the user does not touch the navigation switch any further, the display will clear after approx 10 seconds and the backlight will go out. The battery level icon will remain, however,to show that the unit is switched on.

TO SWITCH UNIT OFF
Press and HOLD DOWN the centre , of the navigation switch, for at least 2 seconds. As soon as the centre is pressed, the display will illuminate (if it was not illuminated already). After 2 seconds, the backlight will switch off, the display will clear completely and the unit will emit a single long, low beep, with a brief flash of the main LED, indicating that the unit is switched off.
TO CHANGE SETTINGS
The same procedure is used to change all settings of the unit –
Firstly, enter the default editing screen by pressing the navigation switch in any direction . The unit will emit a “pop” sound and the display will illuminate. Using , and , scroll through to the icon relating to the setting to be changed. The meanings of the icons are as follows –
VOLUME ICON – volume can be adjusted from 1 (minimum) to 8 (maximum)
TONE ICON – tone can be adjusted from 1 (lowest tone) to 8 (highest tone)
ROLLERWHEEL SENSITIVITY – can be adjusted from 1 (minimum) to 8 (maximum)
VIBRATION ICON – can be adjusted from 1 (off) to 8 (maximum) (Micron RS1 only – not implemented on RS2)

the display to clear.
NOTES
• If no further keys are pressed, the display will clear (except for the battery level icon) and the backlight will switch off, after 10 seconds
• To re-enter editing mode, simply press any direction key.
• When changing nightlight settings, the nightlight will NOT illuminate until the display clears and the display backlight switches off. This is because the display backlight is very much brighter than the nightlight. In order to make nightlight setting more convenient, the display will clear after only 2.5 seconds, when changing nightlight settings.
• When setting vibration sensitivity (RS1 only) and nightlight brightness, the minimum level (1 bar) switches the feature off entirely (i.e. there is no “zero” setting)
ROLLERWHEEL SENSITIVITY FUNCTION
The rollerwheel sensitivity function allows the user to select 8 different levels of sensitivity. Minimum sensitivity (1 level bar showing), requires the largest line movement to cause a trigger. Maximum sensitivity (8 level bars showing) requires the smallest line movement to cause a trigger.
The Micron RS1 & RS2 incorporate a “see-saw effect” elimination feature - in all sensitivity settings (except maximum), the line must travel the specified distance in the same direction, in order to trigger the unit. Any movement in the opposite direction will reset the distance counter to zero. This can substantially reduce, or eliminate, false triggering caused by wind and water movement. Once the unit has been triggered, it automatically switches to maximum sensitivity, irrespective of the sensitivity setting, to accurately reflect a fast run.
Each icon will flash in turn, as it is selected. When the required icon is flashing, press on the navigation switch, to edit the chosen setting. The display will change to show the current level. As an example, the following might be shown, if rollerwheel sensitivity was selected –
In this example, 8 level bars are showing, so the rollerwheel sensitivity is set to maximum.
To change a setting, simply use the and directions of the navigation switch, to increase or decrease the number of bars showing.
When the desired level has been set, press on the navigation switch, to return to the default editing screen . Other settings can now be selected and altered as required. If the user does not wish to alter any further settings, then there is no need to return to the default editing screen. The display will clear itself after 10 seconds.
AUDIBLE INDICATIONS
• When setting volume, a two-tone ascending or descending tone will be heard at the new volume setting, each time it is changed
• When setting tone, a single tone, at the new tone setting, will be heard each time it is changed
• For all other parameters, a short high “click” will be heard on each key press
• The bite alarm will continue to work as normal when changing settings – i.e. the user can trigger the rollerwheel or vibration sensor (RS1 only), to check the effect of the new settings, without waiting for

NOTE: if the display is already showing the default editing screen, it is only necessary to press once
.
In this condition, the bite alarm will not respond to any rollerwheel movement or vibration triggers, until quick-mute is disabled. Todisable quick-mute – simply press and release the navigation switch in any direction. The unit will then revert to normal operation. Note that the unit will remain in quick-mute mode, until cancelled by the user!
BATTERY LEVEL INDICATION
The battery level icon gives a constant indication of the battery condition, which is shown at all times when the unit is switched on.
VIBRATION SENSITIVITY FUNCTION (MICRON RS1 ONLY)
The vibration sensitivity function provides 8 levels of vibration sensitivity from “off” (1 level bar showing) to maximum (8 level bars showing). The vibration sensing function operates independently of the rollerwheel movement sensing,
NIGHTLIGHT FUNCTION
The nightlight function provides 8 levels of brightness from “off” (1 level bar showing) to maximum (8 level bars showing).
Use of the nightlight function will increase the power consumption of the unit and reduce battery life slightly. For this reason, it is recommended that the user selects the lowest brightness level that gives adequate illumination. In addition, the nightlight feature should be disabled when not required. To remind the user that nightlight is on, the nightlight icon will con-
tinue to show on the display at all times, when the nightlight function is enabled.
Note that the nightlight is temporarily disabled whenever the display backlight or main LED are illuminated.
“QUICK-MUTE” FUNCTION
The “quick-mute” function enables the user to temporarily disable the bite alarm whilst placing the rod and attaching an indicator to the line. This prevents nuisance triggering, without the need to switch the alarm off, or adjust the volume. Toinitiate quick-mute - with the bite alarm already switched on, simply press and release on the navigation switch, twice. The display will illuminate, showing just the volume icon, which will be flashing –
4 segments showing – maximum battery level
3 segments showing – battery condition OK
2 segments showing – battery condition OK
1 segment showing – battery level low. New batteries should be obtained.
No segments showing – batteries must be replaced immediately, or malfunction may occur

BATTERY REPLACEMENT
The Micron RS series operates from 2 x ‘AAA’ cells. The use of good quality alkaline batteries is strongly recommended for best performance. When refitting batteries, ensure correct polarity. Do not use rechargeable batteries. Do not mix different battery types. Do not mix new batteries with partially discharged batteries. Failure to observe this may result in battery leakage and subsequent damage.
RADIO TRANSMITTER
All Micron RS models have an in-built radio transmitter. No setting up of codes is required, the bite alarm simply needs to be “registered” with the receiver on first use only. Please see receiver operating instructions for details.
Note that “status tones”, when switching on and adjusting settings, are not reproduced on the receiver. Only bite indication tones, either rollerwheel or vibra-
tion, are reproduced on the receiver. Please see receiver operating instructions, for notes relating to operating range and receiver placement, etc.
The RS units can auto-detect whether they have been registered to an RX3 receiver or an I-COM interactive transceiver. If registered to an RX3 receiver, all 2-way communication features are disabled, to conserve battery power.
RANGE TEST MODE
To initiate range test mode, scroll through to the range test (“antenna”) icon on the default editing screen and then press or on the navigation switch. The unit will then start to transmit a sequence of four beeps, at medium pitch, repeating at intervals of approximately one second. The user can then walk away, with the receiver, to their desired location. If the test signal can still be heard from the receiver, then it
is within reception range. Note that the unit itself will remain silent whilst in test mode – beeps are heard from the receiver only, but the LED on the unit will illuminate.
• If using more than one bite alarm, select range test mode on ONE unit only. If more than one unit is placed in test mode, then the test signals will either be received intermittently, or not received at all.
• If all the bite alarms in use have good batteries, then it is safe to assume that they will each have similar transmission range.
The test signal will continue until one of the following occurs – (i) Test mode auto-cancels. This will occur
approximately five minutes after selecting test mode. Both bite alarm and receiver will beep four times at high pitch, to indicate that test mode has timed out.
(ii) The unit is triggered by line movement. If this
occurs, then the unit will revert to normal mode and will give the usual audible and visual indications of forward or dropback movement.
(iii) The user switches the unit off. This also cancels
test mode and the unit will re-start in normal mode when switched back on.
• Sensitivity control setting also applies in test mode – the same amount of line movement is required to bring the unit out of test mode, as would normally be required to make it “beep” in normal mode.
• Once the unit has exited test mode, it reverts fully to normal operation, unless test mode is initiated again by the user.
• Rollerwheel sensing is disabled for approximately 10 seconds after selecting test mode, to prevent accidental triggering caused by movement of the unit, whilst using the navigation switch.

MAIN LED COLOUR SELECTION
The main bite indication LED is a high-brightness white LED. A selection of different colour lenses are supplied, which may be clipped in position, to change the LED colour. The LED latches on for 20 seconds after the last bite indication tone. If a dropback is detected, the LED will flash. As any bite alarm can be assigned to any LED on the receiver, there is no need to make any other changes, when changing LED colour.
EXTERNAL SOCKET FOR ILLUMINATED SWINGERS AND HANGERS
Remove the rubber bung in the rear case, to gain access to the illuminated swinger/hanger socket. The swinger/hanger will be illuminated whenever the main LED is illuminated and will also flash to indicate a dropback movement.
The swinger/hanger will also be dimly illuminated when the nightlight is enabled, to give better visibility at night.
NOTE: this night illumination feature is not implemented on Issue 1.0 hardware, but will appear on production units.
PIN CODE SECURITY FEATURE (WHEN USED WITH I-COM INTERACTIVE TRANSCEIVER)
This feature is not implemented in Revision 1.0 software.
