Micro Motion Vortex Flow Meter Sensor Installation Instructions

1Rosemount 8800 Vortex
Tools
1. Determine line size and meter body style.
2. Bend sensor cable. See Figure 1.
Configuration of
Cable After Bend
(6- and 8-inch
wafer-style flowmeters)
Configuration As
Shipped From Factory
CAUTION
When bending the sensor cable, ensure that the lower portion of the cable near the sensor does not twist. Twisting may crack or damage the cable.

Sensor Replacement Preparation and Inst allation
These instructions apply to wafer-, flanged-, and dual-style flowmeters.
Some additional instructions are included for wafer-style flowmeters.
• Suction or compressed air device
• Small, soft bristle brush
• Cotton swabs, moistened with water or appropriate cleaning agent
1
/8-inch open-end torque wrench – for 1/2- through 2-inch [15 through 50 mm] and 6- through 8-inch [150-200 mm] wafer-style flowmeters; all dual- and flanged-style flowmeters
3
/4-inch open-end torque wrench – for 3- and 4-inch [80 and 100 mm]
stainless steel wafer-style flowmeters
Wafer-style flowmeters, sizes 6- and 8-inch (150 and 200 mm): Rotate the sensor cable 180° while firmly grasping sensor just below the first coil.
All other flowmeters: It may be necessary to temporarily bend the sensor cable coil aside in order to install the sensor nut.

• Remove loose particles using a suction or compressed air device.
3. Clean the sealing surface. See Figure 2.
Sealing surface –
provides a secondary seal in the event that process fluid should corrode through the meter body and enter the sensor cavity
CAUTION
Do not scratch or damage any part of the sensor, sensor cavity, or sensor nut threads. Damage to these parts may require replacement of the sensor or meter body, or render the flowmeter dangerous.
Sensor cavity post –
location of installed sensor
4. Install the sensor. See Figure 3.
