1. BIOMETRIC FINGERPRINT READER – OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
1.1. Description
The Biometric Fingerprint Reader (BIO-13, BIO-14 or BIO-15) has three LED status indicators as shown below:
1.2. General Operation
1
Unit is activated by finger pressure applied to the sensor/button. Place finger anywhere on the sensor/button and push slightly. The AMBER will flash waiting for finger placement.
2
Place finger on the sensor, the AMBER LED will stop flashing and stay ON momentarily.
3
Maintain finger pressure until the RED and GREEN LEDs start flashing and the AMBER LEDs has extinguished. Remove your finger. The RED and GREEN LEDs continue to flash while the unit looks for a match.
4
If a match is found the GREEN LED lights briefly and the unit emits the "Access granted" tone (dit, dit). Door will now unlock.
5
If fingerprint does not match or a bad read occurs then the RED LED lights and the "Access denied" tone is emitted (daaah) and the door chime will sound. Door will remain locked. If a bad read, user should try again.
6
If unit is activated but NO finger is placed or finger is removed too soon, the door chime will sound if connected.
NOTE:
& Always try to place your finger in the same way each time the unit is used. Also only
apply as much pressure as is necessary to obtain a good read. Pushing too hard will distort your fingerprint and cause rejection.
& When the unit’s database reaches in excess of 50% of capacity the user will notice
some delay (up to 5 seconds) before access will be granted.
During operation the AMBER (CENTRE) LED indicates as follows:
Flashing – Apply finger
Steady ON – Maintain finger pressure
Off – Remove finger

1.3. Enrolment
1.3.1. Enrolment - On First Power Up
When you purchase the Biometric Reader new, there are no fingerprints in the database. The first TWO fingerprints enrolled will become "Administrators", namely ADMIN 1 and ADMIN 2
.
1
On first power up unit automatically enters the ENROLMENT MODE emitting the tone (dit dit dit dit). During enrolment a fingerprint is learnt by presenting same finger THREE times under the direction of the AMBER LED.
2
In ENROLMENT MODE, RED and AMBER LEDs start flashing indicating unit is ready to read fingerprint.
3
Place finger on the sensor. When unit detects a finger on the sensor AMBER LED stops flashing and stays ON momentarily.
4
Remove finger when the AMBER LED goes OFF.
Repeat Steps 2, 3 & 4 two more times
5
After the THIRD presentation RED LED will flash while "processing". If ADMIN 1 fingerprint is accepted it will be confirmed by the tone (dit dit dit dit) and a SINGLE flash of GREEN LED The unit then will now go back to Step 2 waiting for enrolment of ADMIN 2 finger, or unit will exit ENROLMENT MODE automatically after 20 seconds. For later enrolment of ADMIN 2 (See 1.3.2.) If not successful the unit will emit the tone (daaah) and go back to Step 2.
6
When enrolment is complete or to cancel enrolment at any time, simply wait to exit ENROLMENT MODE automatically after 20 seconds.
Enrolment of “Administrators” fingers (ADMIN 1 and 2) is confirmed by the tone (dit dit dit dit) and a single flash of the GREEN LED. Any subsequent fingers enrolled will be confirmed by the tone (dit dit) and a single flash of the GREEN LED.

1.3.2. Entering enrolment when there are fingerprints in the database
ONLY the TWO administrators (ADMIN 1 & 2) can access ENROLMENT MODE.
1
An administrator places finger as per normal operation (See 1.2. General Operation).
2
Do not remove finger when the (dit dit) tone is emitted for access. Note that the RED and GREEN LEDs will remain ON.
3
After 4 seconds the unit will emit the tone (dit dit dit dit) and enters the ENROLMENT MODE. The administrator can now have the new person(s) enrol their finger to database. During enrolment a fingerprint is learnt by presenting same finger THREE times.
4
On ENROLMENT MODE the RED and AMBER LEDs start flashing indicating unit is ready to read fingerprint.
5
Place finger on the sensor. When unit detects a finger on the sensor AMBER LED stops flashing and stays ON momentarily.
6
Remove finger when the AMBER LED goes OFF.
Repeat Steps 4, 5 & 6 two more times.
7
After the THIRD presentation RED LED will flash while "processing". If the fingerprint is accepted it will be confirmed by the tone (dit dit) and a SINGLE flash of GREEN LED The unit then will now go back to Step 4 waiting for another user finger. Without another user finger the unit will exit ENROLMENT MODE automatically after 20 seconds. If not successful unit emits the tone (daaah) and goes back to Step 4.
8
When enrolment is complete or to cancel enrolment at any time, simply wait to exit ENROLMENT MODE automatically after 20 seconds.
NOTE:
& If the finger being enrolled is an administrator already in the database then on
completion of enrolment its existence will be confirmed by the tone (dit dit dit dit) and a SINGLE flash of the GREEN LED. A “user” finger will be confirmed by the tone (dit dit) and a SINGLE flash of the GREEN LED.

1.3.3. Deleting Fingerprints of All Users
1
Enter ENROLMENT MODE using ADMIN 1 finger. (See 1.3.2.)
2
Re-enrol ADMIN 1. On the THIRD finger presentation do not remove finger when AMBER LED goes OFF. Instead of removing finger apply pressure to the sensor and maintain. GREEN and RED LEDs will start flashing.
3
The unit will emit the tone (dit dit dit dit) but do not remove finger.
4
After 4 seconds RED LED will flash and the entire fingerprint database will be erased. This is confirmed by the tone (dit dah).
5
A new database may now be started with new "administrators" if required, or the unit will exit ENROLMENT MODE automatically after 20 seconds.
WARNING!
For security reasons, DO NOT leave the Biometric Fingerprint Reader with empty database unattended. It is strongly recommended that a new Administrator finger should be enrolled right after the database is erased, to avoid the possibility of any unauthorised persons taking control of the system.
1.3.4. Deleting Fingerprints of Individual User
1
Enter ENROLMENT MODE using either ADMINI 1 or ADMIN 2 fingers. (See 1.3.2.)
2
Re-enrol any finger other than ADMIN 1 finger. On the THIRD finger presentation do not remove finger when AMBER LED goes OFF. Instead of removing finger apply pressure to the sensor and maintain, GREEN and RED LEDs will start flashing.
3
The unit will emit the tone (dit dit) but do not remove finger.
4
After 4 seconds RED LED will flash and the NEXT HIGHER RANKING finger
**
will be deleted from the fingerprint database. This is confirmed by the tone (dit dit). If no HIGHER RANKING finger can be found the "rejection" tone (daaaah) will be emitted.
5
Repeat Steps 2, 3 & 4 to delete more users, or the unit will exit ENROLMENT MODE automatically after 20 seconds.
English

- 8 -
NOTE:
& A HIGHER RANKING finger (user) is a finger which is enrolled after the presented
finger. For example, by presenting finger of user No. 5, the system will delete user No. 6 on completion of the deletion procedure. All users (No. 7 onwards) will automatically be brought forward to fill up the now vacant ranking position.
1.4. User Groups
The Biometric Fingerprint Reader is capable of activating an auxiliary output via the REC-18 Controller Unit’s Output 3. Typical application of this feature can be activating a silent alarm where a duress zone on alarm panel is triggered by presenting a duress finger at emergency. A Duress finger is any finger falls in User Group 2 as described below.
1.4.1. User Group 1 - Enter Enrolment Using ADMIN 1
All new users (fingerprints) enrolled by “Administrator 1” are classified as Group 1 Users. Once successfully enrolled, these users (Group 1 fingerprints) will activate Output 1 on the REC-18 Controller upon presentation, hence unlocking door strike and gain access for the set period of time (configurable via DIP switch, see 5.2.).
1.4.2. User Group 2 - Enter Enrolment Using ADMIN 2
Any new users (fingerprints) enrolled by “Administrator 2” are classified as Group 2 Users. Once successfully enrolled, these users (Group 2 fingerprints) will activate both Output 1 (door strike) and Output 3 (duress) simultaneously. This is most advantageous during emergency situations or under threats.
In the case where no device is connected or configured to Output 3 on the REC-18 Controller, Group 2 Users works exactly the same as Group 1 Users.

3. CARE & MAINTENANCE
The Biometric Fingerprint Reader is a robust and reliable unit, however it will require the sensor “screen” area to be wiped occasionally with a tissue or damp cloth to remove finger residue. Should you notice that the rejection rate is increasing, then cleaning the sensor will usually restore performance.
The Biometric Fingerprint Reader is mainly designed for indoor applications. It may be used and installed outdoor, but in an under cover location. Although it is designed with water resistant capabilities, the unit will tolerate water splash but not persistent exposure to water.
3.1. Low Battery Condition
If you notice a series of “beeps” being emitted from the REC-18 RF Controller (this unit receives wireless signals from the Biometric Reader) when using the Biometric Fingerprint Reader and the red LED lights up for approximately 5 seconds then the reader needs its batteries replaced. This series of beeps will occur every time the reader is used until the batteries are replaced or the unit ceases to function.
3.2. REC-18 RF Controller
This piece of equipment receives the RF signals from the Biometric Fingerprint Reader and controls the door lock as well as having various other functions used by the installer to tailor the system to your needs. It is powered either from a 12VDC regulated plug pack power supply or a battery backed (recommended) mains supply. This unit does not require user maintenance.
3.3. Battery Replacement
The BIO-13 fingerprint reader is powered by 4 x AA Alkaline batteries. The BIO-14 fingerprint reader is powered by 2 x CR123A Lithium batteries. The BIO-15 fingerprint reader is powered by either 4 x AA, 2 x CR123A or 4 x AAA batteries
depending on the size of the wall box unit used. These batteries should all last at least 6 – 12 months before replacement is required.
To replace the batteries:
For the BIO-13 and BIO-14 fingerprint readers remove the security screw at bottom of the case using the tool supplied. Remove the front case by grasping between the thumb and forefinger and applying pressure at the two marks on either side of the case. Ensure correct polarity and use only batteries specified.
Do not use rechargeable batteries as these will not provide the voltage required for correct operation. Re-assemble battery pack and secure in. Clip front case back on by placing the bottom section in place FIRST and then clipping the top back by applying pressure until it snaps into place. Using supplied tool re-insert security screw.
