MFJ Deluxe Iambic Paddle
Model MFJ-564
Thank you for purchasing the MFJ-564 Deluxe Iambic Paddle. It is designed to work with any iambic keyer. The MFJ-564 has two contacts on the bottom of the base, one for dots and one for dashes. Connections are made to the solder lugs on the split posts and to the bottom of the base for ground. Use a shielded cable for connections.
After connecting the paddle to your keyer, adjustments are simple. There are two adjustments that you may make:
Before adjustment, you must loosen the bottom screw on each of th e pi vot arms until the p ivot arms are free when squeezed. See figure below. These screws were tightened for shipping.
1.
Spacing of the contacts is adjusted by loosening the set screws in the split posts with a standard philips screwdriver and turning the contacts in or out with your fingers. Retighten the set screws after adjustment.
2.
The throw of the paddles is adjusted by changing the length of the pivot stop screws through the
back of the square block. The stop screws adjust how far the paddle arm falls back from the contacts.
Your paddle should need no oiling or cleaning. The nylon and steel needle bearings are selflubricating and self-adjusting. The contacts should require no maintenance. If cleaning is determined necessary, lightly pull a piece of paper between the contacts to rem ove dust. Never use abrasive material to clean the contacts.
