Tuning
The MFJ-1730 has been pretuned for low SWR across the entire 2 meter band. No tuning is needed.
Operation
Suspend the MFJ-1730 in a vertical position. The hole located in the end of the antenna can be used to hang the antenna. The antenna must be hung up using a non-conductive material. (Hint - Try using a clothes pin.)
Do not set up the antenna so that it could touch a conductive object; this will cause detuning of the antenna. The antenna may also be detuned if it is set up close to a metal window.
The antenna is designed to work without a ground plane. However, operation may be enhanced when located over a large conductive surface like a refrigerator or file cabinet.
If the antenna will be permanently mounted outdoors, you might wish to weatherproof it by mounting it inside a length of 5/8 inch PVC. Note the PVC may affect the SWR of the antenna.
