The “Telematics Platform Accessory” (TPA) is the name given to the system installed anonymously (i.e. it is undetectable from the outside) into the vehicle that forms the basis for various services. To this end, TPA esta blishes a GSM connection between the vehicle and a central server via which information can be exchanged. By doing this, the TPA facilitates a broad spectrum of application options that can be converted into services for the customer. These services are dened by and oered to the customer as a service package by the individual BMW subsidiaries in cooperation with local service providers who provide the appropriate infrastructure. These packages are therefore local products that can vary from market to market. The following services packages are currently available:
• Stolen Vehicle Tracking/Recovery including an optional driver authorisation performed via transponders.
• Log book/eet manageme nt, i.e. the date, time, location and distance travelled is documented for each journey.
• Vehicle position query from the customer.
• Triggering of an automatic call to the emergency services (non-verbal) in the event of an accident.
• Recording of insurance-relevant usage data, including accident data recording (pre- and postcrash).
When certain services are used, some insurance companies oer discounts. These discount rules depend on the service packages available locally and the service portfolios of the individual insurance companies, and can therefore vary tremendously. In individual cases, the customer should ask their insurance company directly about these services.
Sales features/benets
• BMW-tested hardware (electromagnetic compatibility, vehicle electrical system connection, standby current consumption, etc.).
• Platform system for capturing safety-related information (theft, logbook/eet management, insurance-relevant usage data).
• WEB-based customer access to various data and services.
• Discounts on insurance premiums (depending on the insurance company and the services taken).
• Stolen Vehicle Tracking/Recovery (SVR):
• Satises all currently applicable European
standards.
• Theft alarm by the customer or through the
sensors built into the car.
• Tracking and function blocking of a stolen
vehicle.
• In some cases this is a prerequisite for
acceptance of a theft insurance policy.
The hardware can only be used in conjunction with a service agreement which incurs additional costs. Please nd out in advance from your sales company whether a local service provider is available and what service packages are oered!
