Black Widow Mains Block

1 May 2003 - Merlin Cables announce the introduction of The Black Widow Mains Block, the first of three mains

distribution units developed as a logical progression from the range of Merlin Mains Cables.

Building on the success of the Noise Absorption System (NAS) technology pioneered on the award­winning Black Widow Mains Cable, the 4-way Black Widow Mains Block offers all the sonic and
visual improvements that the single mains cable provides whilst providing greater accessibility and
application benefits.

Many products incorporate captive mains leads and as such are unable to accept more advanced mains cables to
improve sonic or visual performance. The Black Widow Mains Block brings those dramatic performance increases
so familiar to Merlin Cables products to the customer who wishes to extract the most out of existing equipment
without recourse to modification and consequent invalidation of warranties.

Constructed from a durable black plastic, a series of upgrades over the standard Black Widow mains cable have
been implemented to maximise the improvements offered by the 4-way mains block. Copper cores of larger
cross-sectional area are utilised to improve current handling capabilities, reflecting the higher current draw
induced by the increased number of components connected. The NAS technology has been further enhanced
through its deployment within the distribution block itself, drastically reducing the presence of damaging electro­magnetic and radio-frequency interference derived from the close proximity of mains sockets. The neon light
within the high-quality global power switch has been removed to prevent any increase in noise. The 2m cable
itself benefits from a dual-application of NAS technology as found on standard Black Widow mains cables.

In use typical improvements will be a dramatic lowering of the noise floor, leading to a marked improvement in
clarity, three-dimensionality of soundstage and musicality. Visually stunning improvements in picture quality,
especially noticeable on plasma televisions and projectors, demonstrate a much greater depth of picture, out­standing black reproduction and much greater clarity with a dramatic reduction in unwanted artefacts. Colour
purity is enhanced giving much greater impact coupled with visually improved contrast.
