Haydn 75 ohm Digital Interconnect
1 May 2003 - Merlin Cables announce the introduction of the Haydn 75 ohm Digital Interconnect, the first of a
three-strong digital coaxial interconnect range.
The Haydn has been designed to full serial broadcast specifications in order to create one of the truest 75 ohm
cables available on the market today. The basic technical attributes of the cable are remarkable in comparison
to regular 75 ohm cables - a normal design will typically exhibit a 8.3dB drop in signal level at 10MHz over 100
metres. The Haydn holds a true 75 ohm and shows only a 2.2dB drop within the same parameters. At 135MHz
over 100 metres the Haydn drops only 5.5dB, a difference of over 23dB in comparison with normal cables.
Signal integrity is paramount in the digital arena in order for the digital clocks to synchronise effectively and also
to minimise performance-degrading jitter. With electrical propagation of 85% the Haydn effectively surpasses
all current standards and achieves the highest levels of signal integrity to produce one of the finest-sounding
digital interconnects available, eminently suitable for the highest-resolution audio standards.
Its construction is laboratory-specification copper, dual-screened with both an inner foil and braid for 99% optical
coverage. The screen assists Merlin’s proprietary non-intrusive Noise Absorption Technology (NAS) system to
vastly minimise the effects of both transmitted and radiated radio-frequency and electro-magnetic interference.
The deployment of NAS technology is especially critical to minimise and absorb the performance-degrading effects
of unwanted harmonics and in-phase high-frequency currents which induce a detrimental net magnetic field
around the cable. An outer braid provides protection and added durability.
In use the Haydn displays a purity, clarity and depth of sound hitherto unmatched by alternative cables. The true
three dimensionality of high-resolution audio signals such as DTS data streams is now dramatically revealed and
enables remarkable soundstage placement within multi-channel audio soundtracks.
The Haydn is terminated in 1 metre lengths as standard with gold-plated 75 ohm BNC-type connectors to ensure
true impedance matching through the system. Whilst phono RCA plugs are available as a no-cost alternative
this form of termination is not impedance matched for 75 ohm operation.
The Haydn is available immediately with UK retail pricing at £85 inc VAT for 1 metre lengths.
