Instantaneous Gas Fired Hot Water System
INTRODUCTION
The Merlin 600E is a powerful and extremely effi cient gas fi red, instantaneous water heater intended for domestic use.
Ignition is electronic; there is no pilot light. When the hot water tap is off , no gas is used.
Merlin’s microprocessor based control system responds instantly to changes in fl ow, ensuring smooth, seamless control over the powerful burner to maintain a steady temperature.
The Merlin 600E is a fan forced, fully condensing appliance, suitable for outdoor installation only.
Remote controllers enhance the comfort and convenience of the system by providing close control over water temperature from anywhere in the home. Typically, one controller would be placed in the kitchen/ laundry area and one in each bathroom.
Temperatures selected at a remote controller are retained in the memory of that controller.
In the event of a system malfunction, an error message is displayed on the remote controller, which assists with fault fi nding.
Operating noise level is low.
REMOTE TEMPERATURE CONTROL
Remote controllers are not necessary to operate the unit, but are strongly recommended as they provide greater control, comfort and convenience. For example, setting the temperature on the controller will maintain shower temperature at approximately the set temperature, regardless of changes in inlet water temperature or fl uctuations in pressure due to other users turning hot or cold taps on and off .
Units operating without remote controllers will deliver water at the default temperature of 50 deg C and require mixing with cold water for lower temperatures.
Remote controllers are battery operated and communicate with the master unit (in the water heater) via UHF radio link. They are totally portable and require no installation.
Up to four (4) remote controllers can be used on a system, and can be added at any time.
Each remote controller has the ability to take control of an idle system and maintain exclusive control until surrendered by pressing the transfer button to return control to the master.
Remote controllers include a battery saving feature which switches the display off when not in use.
OPERATION WITH REMOTE CONTROLLERS
To obtain the best performance from your hot water system, it is important to use the remote controllers correctly.
Used as intended, the hot water system will supply hot water at the selected temperature, even when the water fl ow is varied or when more than one tap is used.
The purpose of the remote control feature is to enable you to have complete control over your hot water system.
Adjustments to the operation of your hot water system can be made with any of the remote controllers.
A diff erent temperature can be stored in the memory of each remote controller.
Set temperatures: 36,37,38,39,40,41,42,43,44,45,46, 47,48 degrees Celsius.
Default temperature (ie; no control) = 50 degrees Celsius.
TAKING CONTROL
If you wish to set the hot water temperature from a remote controller, simply press the “Transfer” button. If the system is already in use, the water temperature currently being supplied will be displayed and the system will not allow you to take control. Transfer is only permitted when the system is not in use.
If the system is not in use (idle), the temperature last set on the controller will appear steady on the display and the “in control” symbol will appear on the left hand side of the display signifying that this controller now has exclusive control.
When the hot water tap is turned on, the symbol in the centre of the display will fl ash, indicating that the system is in use. The temperature of the hot water being supplied is displayed and can be adjusted between the limits of 36 deg C and 48 deg C in steps of 1 degree, whenever the controller is in control.
To surrender control when fi nished with the hot water, simply press the “Transfer” button. The “in control” symbol will disappear and the default temperature of 50 deg C will appear steady on the display.
Note: If the system remains idle for longer than 5 minutes, control will be forfeited and the temperature will revert back to the default temperature of 50 deg C.
