Background
The 800 DVD player from Meridian has received equally high praise for the
unparalleled quality of its video as it has for its world-beating audio
performance. The Composite, S, and Component video outputs featured on the
VE00 card (as part of the modular player’s standard configuration) have
provided a reference for reviewers, installers and other manufacturers alike for
many years and today the 800 still earns the highest accolades for its picture
quality.
Meridian achieve this impressive level of video performance using an interlaced
video output and for those who wanted more we have advocated the use of
external video processors. Now, however, Meridian are ready to take 800’s
video performance to a new level and for the first time offer a Progressive Video
Output from their Reference DVD Machine.
What does progressive video mean for the user?
Provided you have an appropriate display device you can now use 800 without
an external line doubler. The picture from our progressive video output is
smoother with fewer vertical scan lines and gives the viewer an impression of
greater vertical resolution. The VE10 exhibits astonishing picture quality.
VE10 Progressive Video Output Card
Using the DCDi technology from Faroudja, Meridian’s VE10 produces the
highest quality progressive video from the interlaced video found on DVDs. Perpixel motion-adaptive deinterlacing results in the highest resolution picture
while suppressing motion artefacts.
The VE10 uses extremely high quality conversion and studio-grade, high
bandwidth, low noise analogue video circuits in a skilfully designed 6-layer
PCB. This, combined with the 800’s legendary low noise picture decoding,
presents a progressive output that sets new standards.
When fitted with a VE10, the 800 provides user setup of Sharpness and
Gamma.
