Introducing Sooloos 2.0
Over the coming months, we are launching an exciting series
of updates that dramatically increase the power and flexibility
of the Meridian Sooloos System. Now you can access, store,
manage, and distribute your entertainment in a variety of
exciting new ways that understand and address your needs
like no other system, in one room, throughout your home,
or beyond, anywhere a high-speed network connection is
available.
The first of these updates, now available, includes a host of
improvements and additions to the industry-defining Meridian
Sooloos music offering, from simple interface updates to new
ways to expand and enhance your system’s capabilities, zone
playback and hardware options.
New System Architecture & Capabilities

New Features, September 2009
New System Architecture
The new Control 10 can be combined with a Twinstore alone to create
a complete system. Use SpeakerLink to connect Meridian DSP Active
Loudspeakers, or connect the audio output of the Control 10 to your
preamp’s digital input or DAC. Add a Source One for analogue audio
output, or an Ensemble for multi-zone analogue or digital audio.
The fundamental way information is stored, accessed, browsed, and
streamed in the system has been completely re-developed to embrace
truly massive collections. Now, the speed of access is equally fast
whether you have a hundred or a hundred thousand albums in your
library – critical when considering online and other media types.

New Streaming Playback Options
Meridian Sooloos Local Streaming
Meridian Sooloos can be controlled from any Windows, Macintosh,
or Linux computer on the same network. At the same time, speakers
connected to these computers can output music from Meridian
Sooloos. In the office, in the den, in the kids’ rooms, on a laptop
around the house wirelessly … the speakers of any computer on the
network can act as a local playback zone to play the music stored in
your Meridian Sooloos system.
Meridian Sooloos Remote Streaming
You can access your home Meridian Sooloos system through any web
browser and listen to your music anywhere with a high-speed internet
connection. At the office, in an hotel, at a vacation home, at a friend’s
house… listen to your entire Meridian Sooloos music library via the
internet.

Meridian SpeakerLink and Comms for
full Meridian system integration

New Control & Zone Expansion Options
Control 10
The Control 10 touchpanel display features Meridian SpeakerLink
and S/PDIF audio outputs. In addition, a Meridian Comms connection
allows the touchpanel to interface with the majority of Meridian
systems both new and old. With this one device, you can add a new
zone with audio output and the full Meridian Sooloos interface.
Integration Options
New iPod & iTunes Interchange
Meridian Sooloos starts by importing your music in full-quality, lossless
form for listening at home. Then it generates MP3s of the files for
portable use, so you don’t have to import and maintain two libraries.
With the new Meridian Sooloos virtual file structure, any computer
on the network will automatically access Meridian Sooloos as a
shared library after installing Control PC or Control Mac. The result is
seamless and simple transfer of music to iPhones, iPods, and other
portable MP3 players, with no special setup requirements.
New Audio File Format & Sample Rate Support
Web Browser Control
Meridian Sooloos can now be controlled from Firefox, Internet
Explorer, and Safari on Macintosh, Windows, and Linux platforms, so
that any computer – even new Linux-based netbooks – can become a
control point for Meridian Sooloos.
Control PC and Control Mac
Control Mac and Control PC offer the same control of Meridian
Sooloos that web browsers do, with the addition of full CD importing,
file importing, file exporting, and manual backup from any Macintosh
or Windows computer on the network.
Integrating files you’ve imported or downloaded is now easier and
more flexible than ever. Meridian Sooloos supports the import of
FLAC, WAV, MP3, AAC, and Apple Lossless files, at any word length
and sample rate up to 24-bit, 96kHz sampling. With Control PC
and Control Mac, files located on your computer are imported and
identified, acquiring the metadata with automated tools.
SpeakerLink
SpeakerLink is a connection technology created by
Meridian Audio. It transmits balanced digital audio
signals over standard STP Cat 5 Ethernet cables. This
same wire also carries control signals such as volume
and source selection. Connect your Meridian Sooloos
components directly to Meridian DSP Loudspeakers
with SpeakerLink and you have a simple, elegant distributed audio
environment, with minimal setup.
Meridian Comms Integration

communications. Adjusting the volume from a Control 10 touchpanel

sends appropriate instructions to Meridian DSP Loudspeakers or
Controller products for system volume management. In addition, you
can connect a G12 infrared receiver to the Control 10, making it the
IR receiver for your larger Meridian system. Conversely, the IR receiver
in a Meridian DSP Loudspeaker or Controller product can be used
to allow a Meridian remote control to drive transport functions on the
Sooloos system.
Interface Enhancements
Classical Music
Meridian Sooloos manages your library through a simple, elegant
application of powerful database tools. We call it Focus. Classical
music presents unique issues to Focus – for example that four tracks
out of twelve on a CD may represent the four movements of one
composition. When you search, you want to search for any recording
of this composition, not the individual tracks that make up the work.
Meridian Sooloos now embraces this as well as other challenging
aspects of browsing Classical Music.
Browse Views
The Meridian Sooloos default view displays the albums in your
collection organized alphabetically by artist name. But maybe you want
to see your collection organised by release date, or by import date.
Meridian Sooloos now offers many ways to flip your library around and
view it in the way you want.
Themes and Interface Changes
Meridian Sooloos now features the ability to select the graphic theme
of your system. Depending on your taste, there are now a variety of
colours and background options for the Meridian Sooloos interface.
All the themes feature a new, cleaner presentation of Meridian
Sooloos control functionality, which conveniently locates actions such
as Volume Control, Zone Switching, Zone Linking, and Sleep Display
on the main Cover Browser (see illustration overleaf).
