Emergency Contact/Alarm System - System 'Runaway'
Emergency Contact Module: Customer InterestEmergency Contact/Alarm System - System 'Runaway'
Date: February 13, 2004 Order No.: P-B-82.95/305 Supersedes: Group: 82
SUBJECT:Models 170, 203, 208, 209, 210, 211, 215, 220 and 230 Model Years 2001 through 2004 TeleAid Runaway
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of TeleAid Runaway, please note a TeleAid "Runaway" is defined as a vehicle that has theTeleAid control unit perform either Alarm Activation Notification (AAN) or Remote Door Unlock (RDU) calls more than 10 times per day. In most ofthese cases, fault is found with components other than the TeleAid. For example, a runaway that is making RDU calls might have a malfunctioning trunklatch, or a short in the SAM.
The following is a method to determine the root cause for TeleAid runaways. It is always helpful to determine the type of runaway signal that the vehiclewas transmitting. The only two options are Alarm Activation Notification (AAN), or Remote Door Unlock (RDU). If the runaway status of the vehicle isnot known, then obtain the Mobile Identification Number (MIN), Electronic Serial Number (ESN), and VIN, and call the ATX Call Center at800-756-9018. When you provide this vehicle specific information, the call center representative will be able to provide you with the type of signal andthe occurrence of each signal. I. HOW TO DETERMINE LAST TRIGGERED ALARM SIGNALS:

In some models, Star Diagnosis can be used to determine what anti-theft alarm components triggered the most recent AANs. Other models list thereal-time current status of the alarm and door contacts. Use the following tables to determine what device triggered the alarm, or what device is beingactivated.
The "ATA alarm sources" page will list the last 5 alarm activations along with the description of the component that caused the alarm activation. If in thelast 5 activations there is a high frequency of one particular component, then it is very probable that component or its circuitry is responsible for theactivations.
The "Actual Values" and Central locking" page will list the real4ime current status of the ATA contact switches. This can help determine if a switch isbeing activated inadvertently. II. HOW TO DETERMINE REMOTE DOOR UNLOCK MALFUNCTION USING DAS:
Page 4
Star Diagnosis can also be used to determine if an unwarranted RDU signal is being transmitted. Use the following table to determine the actual value ofthe trunk latch or button. For models 170, 208, and 210, use the List of Actual Values" table shown above. There is no information for the trunk lid on209.
Observe the status of the switches. If problem is intermittent, then manipulate switch and/or wiring in order to provoke failure. If any of the ActualValues register as OPERATED or ON, while the trunk is closed, then further inspection is required of the trunk latch assembly. III. DIAGNOSIS USING WIS DOCUMENTATION:
There are many components in the anti-theft alarm (ATA) system connected with the TeleAid control unit. There is the case where any one of thesecomponents could become faulty and cause an unwarranted AAN signal to the TeleAid control unit. The following WIS documentation lists informationregarding the anti-theft alarm (ATA) system in different models. These control units can be found in WIS under group 80.50: Anti- theft alarm system(ATA), interior motion sensor/Tow sensor for all models. Here are more specific documents found in group 80.50: IV. SUPPLEMENT FOR RDU DIAGNOSIS

In all of these documents, it is possible to find the trunk latch/button. Not only is this a component of the ATA, but it also responsible for the triggeringof a Remote Door Unlock. The following table lists all the trunk latch/button respective to all models taken from the WIS documentation. The trunklatch/button should be the FIRST component diagnosed. Use this in RDU cases: V. DETECTING DISCRETE RDU AND AAN SIGNALS FROM TELEAID CONNECTOR:
: Note
The following method only apples to vehicles with TeleAid 2 units. All vehicles with a CP (e.g. 211) only transmit RDU and AAN signals via CAN).
Page 6
The table describes the type of signals used to communicate the RDU and AAN signals to the TeleAid control unit:
^ If the vehicle supports a discrete signal for AAN, a 12V signal to pin 32 on the TeleAid control unit will trigger a call for an alarm notification. ^
If the vehicle supports a discrete signal for RDU, a 0V signal to pin 41 on the TeleAid control unit will trigger a call for a remote door unlockrequest.
Some models support CAN messages to the TeleAid control unit for both RDU and AAN.

On the pressing of the F5 button, a reconfirmation of the parameters is needed, and then the TELE AID is programmed with these network parametersand gets activated.
** Explanation of the 3-button-press process:
*Perform the 3 button press after the activation confirmation form is received via fax form ATX.*
*The 3 buttons will begin blinking after they are pressed a minimum of 5 seconds. Tele Aid will then download the assigned information over the air. This process will succeed only in areas with Verizon Wireless (VZW) Digital coverage.*
*The VZW standard network announcement for the 3 button press (the content of this announcement could change in the future) is: "Welcome to overthe air programming. Please wait while we program your phone. This call is air time free. Para espanol pulse dos". The process takes approximately oneminute, during which another warning message may sound stating: "Please continue to hold while your phone is being programmed".
Page 34
*Once the process is complete, the call simply drops. There is no message confirming if the download was successful.*
*To check if the download was successful, follow path:*Cars > Class Selection > Model Series Selection > Engine Selection > Main Groups > Control Units > Information and Communication > TeleAid *Compare the following information fields before and after the 3 button press.*
*By default (factory settings) a new Digital Retrofit unit has no assigned MIN, MDN, or Home_SID:*
* After the 3 button press, you will see the information fields had changed. The information fields must match the numbers provided by ATX.*

* In some cases, it may be necessary to repeat the 3-button-press process two or three times to hear the network announcements.*
* There may be cases when the 3 button press is unsuccessful because of network deficiencies. This causes the acquaintance call and/or service calls tobe received by the service operator (ATX) as an error account. Hence, ATX will be unable to identify the new account or caller in such cases.* *If this situation occurs, deactivate Tele Aid (Follow the steps outlined below under ("Deactivation Process").*
* NOTE:
Deactivating Tele Aid requires the vehicle information be manually entered via Star Diagnosis. Since it is the same Tele Aid control module, it is notnecessary to fax ATX another activation form.*
Page 36
*Once Tele Aid is deactivated and restored to factory default settings, restart Star Diagnosis and manually code Tele Aid under Initial Start-up orControl Unit Adaptations by following path: Control Units > Information and Communition > Audio, Video, navigation, and telematics > TELE AID > Initial Start-up or Control unit adaptations.* *Close Star Diagnosis and perform a 3 button press. Mute the audio and listen for a network announcement about programming.*
*With the programming complete and the vehicle outdoors with the ignition on for approximately 15 minutes, place the acquaintance call by pressing theI-Button and asking the service operator if they had received the customer and vehicle information. Tele Aid will process the satellite GPS informationbefore transmitting it to the service operator.*
Deactivation Process:

Emergency Contact Module: All Technical Service BulletinsEmergency Contact/Alarm System - System 'Runaway'

Page 50
Page 52

Page 80

* NOTE:
Deactivating Tele Aid requires the vehicle information be manually entered via Star Diagnosis. Since it is the same Tele Aid control module, it is notnecessary to fax ATX another activation form.*
Page 82
This process is needed in case any active customer decides to deactivate the digital Tele Aid. The workflow for this process is as below.
Follow the path Cars->Class Selection ->Model Series Selection-> Engine Selection ->Main Groups->Control Units->Information and Communication->Tele Aid-> Initial Start Up.
