ABOUT THIS GUIDE
This guide has been prepared to help you get quickly acquainted with your new Mercedes-Benz and to provide a convenient reference source for common questions.
However, it is not intended as a substitute for your Operator’s Manual.
For complete operational instructions, maintenance procedures and important safety messages, please consult your Operator’s Manual and other warning labels in your car.
SAFETY REMINDERS
Your Mercedes-Benz is equipped with many safety engineering features, including front, side and window curtain air bags for driver and front seat passenger; side and window curtain air bags for rear seat passengers. Air bags do not replace your seat belts; they supplement the protection offered by seat belts.
Air bags can help protect you in a severe frontal collision and in certain side impacts, but they do not provide protection in any other kind of collision. Always make sure you and your passengers wear safety belts.
Warning: The forces of a deploying air bag can cause serious or fatal injury to a child under age 13. A child under 13 must be seated in the rear seat, belted into an appropriate, properly installed child restraint. If the child must be transported in the front passenger seat, the child must be belted into an appropriate BabySmart™compatible child seat, which will deactivate the front passenger front air bag if the child seat is properly installed; see Operator’s Manual for additional warnings and information on air bags, seat belts and child seats.
MAINTENANCE REMINDERS
Please contact your Mercedes-Benz dealer or the Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center with any questions you may have about your vehicle. We extend our best wishes for many miles of safe, pleasurable driving.
Body repairs/paintwork
Due to the innovative materials and assembly procedures used in the production of the CL-Class, paintwork and body repairs should be performed only by a facility which is certified and recommended by MBUSA. Please call 1-800-FOR-MERCEDES for additional details.

Only the side impact air bags and Head Protection Curtain on the impacted side of the vehicle deploy. See Operator’s Manual for additional warnings and information on air bags, seat belts and child seats.

Mercedes-Benz child seats*
Children under 13 must never ride in the front seat, except in the M-B authorized BabySmart™-compatible child seat. Otherwise they may be struck by the air bag when it inflates in a crash. If this happens, serious or fatal injury will result.
To prevent this, the BabySmart™ seat automatically signals the car to turn off the passenger’s front air bag whenever the seat is properly installed. Three BabySmart™ seats are available: Infant, Toddler, Booster.
See your Mercedes-Benz Center for more information on BabySmart™ child seats.
Warning: The back seat is the safest place for infants and children. Size-appropriate child restraints should always be used.

Break-in period
First 1,000 miles: Drive at moderate and varying road and engine speeds Avoid full throttle, excessive engine speeds or kick-down of transmission After 1,000 miles: Speeds may be gradually increased to permissible maximum
Tire economy and tips
Maintain correct front and rear alignment Maintain correct tire pressure, check pressure when tires are cold Rotate tires and check balance based on degree of tire wear and recommendation of tire manufacturer Spare tire/rim life limited to 12,000 miles
Tips: A tire pressure recommendation table is located inside fuel filler door See Operator’s Manual for important safety information regarding tires and vehicle loading
Snow tires
M+S radial-ply tires on all four wheels are recommended for winter driving
Snow chains (not included)
Snow chains should be installed only on rear tires; follow manufacturer’s mounting instructions; remove as soon as possible when driving on roads without snow
Warning: Never exceed chain manufacturer’s specified maximum speed and never drive faster than 30 mph with chains
Antilock Brake System (ABS)
ABS automatically pumps the brakes to prevent wheel lockup You may feel and hear a slight pulsing of the brake pedal; this is normal when you have reached wheel lockup threshold
Warning: Do not pump brakes; maintain constant firm pressure on brake pedal to maximize braking effectiveness
Brake Assist System (BAS)
Provides maximum power boost as soon as possible during certain emergency stops To apply continuous full braking power, do not reduce brake pedal pressure If BAS light comes on, a malfunction has occurred, Mercedes-Benz Center inspection required
Disc brake performance
While driving on wet/salted roads, it’s advisable (when safe) to apply brakes periodically to keep pads dry/clean
Gasoline
Unleaded fuel only: 91 octane Fuel tank capacity: 23.2 gallon
Warning: Overfilling of fuel tank may create pressure in the system, causing gas to spray out upon removing the filler nozzle, which could cause personal injury
