3. Operating the machine
3.1 Startin g o
Before s tarting wor k with the belt s ander, check
the following:
• If the mac hine has not been use d for a longer
period , check that all par ts are mounte d and
atta ched correct ly, and that all scre ws are tight.
Inspec t the machine for da mage to ensure that i t
will fun ction faultl essly.
• Inser t the lower part o f the drum raising m echanism into t he upper part . Next, put th e support
tubes to gether and tighte n the setscrew.
• Atta ch the dust bag to th e suction tube.
• Using the w heel adjustm ent aid, check tha t
the clea rance between t he oor and each of th e
machine ’s two wheels i s the same. If it is not t he
same, ad just as necessa ry in order to ach ieve the
best sa nding result (see s ection 3.2. 3).
• Check th at the belt sande r’s power cab les are
in good ord er and free of damage. O nly once
these s teps have been comp leted should you
connec t the machine to a pow er source!
• In extr emely cold envi ronments, the m otor
may have di culty sta rting. In this c ase, slacken
the V-be lt by turning the t ensioning bolt un derneath th e motor.
• While s anding, do not leav e the powe r cable l ying on the oo r so as to avoid running ov er it with
the machine.
• Keep your h and on the machine ’s grip at all
times wh en the motor is runn ing.
2.3 Operating safety tips
• Only use t he machine once it i s fully assembled.
• Make sure th at all protecti ve mechanisms an d
covers a re in place and rmly a ttached.
• This bel t sander should b e used only by train ed
profess ionals who have re ad and understo od
these instructions regarding use and maintenance, are f amiliar with th e machine and have
received on-site instruction.
• Operat ion of the belt san der is permissib le
only if sp ecial safet y precautions a re taken.
When using the machine, you must wear gloves,
safet y goggles, ea r protection, a nd protectiv e
clothin g as well as a breathin g mask.
• Keep your h ands, hair, feet and an y loose clothing a good dis tance away fro m the machine’s
moving parts.
• When ta king breaks or mak ing repairs to th e
machine , switch it o and d isconnect it f rom the
power supply.
• While wo rking with the b elt sander, do not
touch any m etal object s such as radiator s, railings, et c.
• Do not take o ut the dust bag wh ile the motor
is runnin g.
• Use the ma chine solely for t reating dry, at
oor sur faces. The bel t sander is not sui table for
sandin g furniture, st airs, etc. Do n ot under any
circums tances use the m achine on metal ob jects
– this is an ac ute re hazard!
• When rai sing or lowering th e drum, do so at
a stead y pace to avoid damag ing the oor, and
only whi le the machine is ru nning.
• The dus t bag must be empti ed when it is halffull, or w henever you have nished working w ith
the machi ne. Keep the dust b ag well away from
sources o f re or sparks.
• During b reaks from work , do not leave the
dust bag l ying around unsu pervised. D oing so
presen ts the danger of res a nd explosions .
• Sandin g dust should be st ored in a re-pro of
metal co ntainer.
3.2. 5 Sanding parquet
Sanding parquet generally involves three passes:
Pass 1: Rough sa nding with gri t 24 or 36 abrasive,
diagonal ( 30°) sanding p attern, full p ressure.
Pass 2: Int ermediate sand ing with grit 4 0 to 80
abrasive, diagonal sanding pattern perpendicu-
lar to the r st, full pres sure.
Pass 3: Fin ish with grit 100 or 120 ab rasive, sanding pat tern parallel to i ncidence of light , reduced
pressur e for ner surfac e appearance.
3.2 .6 Adjusting the s anding belt
After t he sanding belt h as been changed, i t may
require a lignment so that i t runs straight o n the
upper dr um. To achieve this, us e the included
wrench to t urn the M8 adjus ting bolt. By tu rning
the adjus ting bolt to the r ight or left, y ou should
be able to ad just the line of th e sanding belt to
be perfectly straight .
3.2 Operating the machine
3.2.1 Changing the sanding belt
Make sure th at the machine is not c onnected to
a power sup ply. Open the cover p late on the side
of the dru m unit. Make sure the l ower drum is
lifte d clear of the oor.
To loosen the s anding belt, p ush the belt tensio ning lever f orwards. Th is causes the uppe r drum
to move tow ards the lower dru m, allowing you to
slip the s anding belt o.
Replace i t with a new sandin g belt. Pull the te nsioning l ever back to raise t he upper drum again
and tau ten the belt. Now c lose the cover plat e
once more.
3.2. 2 Adjusting the sanding pressure
The adju ster for the sand ing pressure is loc ated
on the low er part of the mac hine. Turn this wheel
anticl ockwise to incr ease the pressur e that the
drum exer ts on the oor ; turn it clock wise to
reduce the pressure.
3.2 .3 Adjusting t he wheels
To adjust the f ront wheels, c arefully lay th e belt
sander d own on the ground.
Set the w heel adjustme nt aid against the b ottom
of the mach ine and use the scre w to measure
the wheel clearance. Remove the wheel adjustment aid c arefully wit hout moving the s crew.
Now set it a gainst the othe r wheel. If there is a
gap bet ween the wheel an d the screw, then th e
wheels a re incorrectl y adjusted and do n ot have
the same clearance.
To adjust the w heel correct ly, loosen the nut
that xes t he wheel to the cha ssis. Now you can
adjust t he wheel so that t he screw of the whe el
adjustment aid touches the wheel. When you are
nished , tighten the nut o nce more.
3.2.4 Sandin g near edges and walls
The side o f the machine’s ho using features a
spacer pi ece to prevent scra tches to walls and
basebo ards. You can adjus t the distance to t he
wall by loo sening or tighte ning its screws . This
dista nce must be greate r than 8 mm, however.
