This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Selecting fine audio equipment such as the unit you’ve just purchased is only the start of your musical enjoyment. Now it’s time to consider how you can maximize the fun and excitement your equipment offers. This manufacturer and the Electronic Industries Association’s Consumer Electronics Group want you to get the most out of your equipment by playing it at a safe level. One that lets the sound come through loud and clear without annoying blaring or distortion-and, most importantly, without affecting your sensitive hearing. Sound can be deceiving. Over time your hearing “comfort level” adapts to higher volumes of sound. So what sounds “normal” can actually be loud and harmful to your hearing. Guard against this by setting your equipment at a safe level BEFORE your hearing adapts.

To establish a safe level:

• Start your volume control at a low setting.

• Slowly increase the sound until you can hear it comfortably and clearly, and without distortion.

Once you have established a comfortable sound level:

• Set the dial and leave it there.

Taking a minute to do this now will help to prevent hearing damage or loss in the future. After all, we want you listening for a lifetime.

Slots and openings in the cabinet and in the back or bottom are provided for ventilation, to ensure reliable operation of the product and to protect it from overheating. These openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings should never be blocked by placing the product on a bed, sofa, rug or other similar surface. This product should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat source. This product should not be placed in a built-in installation such as a bookcase or rack unless proper ventilation is provided or the manufacturer's instructions have been adhered to.

This product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your appliance dealer or local power company. For products intended to operate from battery power, or other sources, refer to the operating instructions.

This product is equipped with a polarized alternating-current line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug.

Power-supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the appliance.

To protect your product from a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage to the product due to lightning and power-line surges.

An outside antenna system should not be located in the vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light or power circuits, or where it can fall into such power lines or circuits. When installing an outside antenna system, extreme care should be taken to keep from touching such power lines or circuits as contact with them might be fatal.

7. OUTDOOR ANTENNA GROUNDING

If an outside antenna is connected to the product, be sure the antenna

ystem is grounded so as to provide some protection against voltage

urges and built-up static charges. Section 810 of the National Electric

s Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, provides information with respect to proper

rounding of the mast and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-

g in wire to an antenna discharge product, size of grounding conductors, location of antenna discharge product, connection to grounding

lectrodes and requirements for grounding electrodes.

18. SERVICING

Do not attempt to service this product yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

19. REPLACEMENT PARTS

When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician uses replacement parts specified by the manufacturer or those that have the same characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire, electric shock or other hazards.

20. SAFETY CHECK

Upon completion of any service or repairs to this product, ask the service technician to perform safety checks to determine that the product is in proper operating condition.

21. WALL OR CEILING MOUNTING

The product should be mounted to a wall or ceiling only as recommended by the manufacturer.

22. DAMAGE REQUIRING SERVICE

Unplug the product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: a. When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged.

If liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the product.

b. c. If the product has been exposed to rain or water.

If the product does not operate normally by following the operating

instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions, as an adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified

technician to restore the product to its normal operation. e. If the product has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged. f. When the product exhibits a distinct change in performance–this

indicates a need for service.

23. HEAT

The product should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves or other products (including amplifiers) that produce heat.

24. NOTE TO CATV SYSTEM INSTALLER

This reminder is provided to call the CATV system installer's attention to Article 820-40 of the NEC that provides guidelines for proper grounding and, in particular, specifies that the cable ground shall be connected to the grounding system of the building, as close to the point of cable entry as practical.

SPEAKER CONNECTION

1. Place the speakers in convenient locations on either side of the unit. Usually a distance of ﬁve to eight feet between speakers provides the best stereo effect, but this may vary depending on the size and acoustics of the room.

2. Locate the Speaker Jacks on the rear of the unit and connect the red wires to the red (+) terminals and connect the black wires to the black (-) terminals.

3. To connect the speakers, press and hold the terminal down, insert the speaker wire and release.

4. Pull lightly on the connection to make sure it is secure.

CAUTION: Only connect the speakers which are supplied with the unit. The use of any other or additional speakers may cause damage to the unit. Never operate the unit without the speakers connected.

BATTERY OPERATION FOR THE REMOTE CONTROL

The battery compartment is located on the rear of the remote control.

• Remove the battery compartment door by pressing down on the tab and lifting the battery

compartment off.

• Insert two (2) AAA size batteries into the battery compartment as shown to the right. Be

sure to observe the polarity markings which are engraved inside the battery compartment. If the batteries are inserted incorrectly, the remote control will not operate.

• Replace the battery compartment door.

BATTERY PRECAUTIONS

Follow these precautions when using batteries in this device:

1. Use only the size and type of batteries speciﬁed (alkaline are recommended).

2. Be sure to follow the correct polarity when installing the batteries as indicated in the battery compartment. Reversed batteries may cause damage to the device.

3. Do not mix different types of batteries together (e.g. Alkaline, Carbon-zinc or rechargeable) or old batteries with fresh ones.

4. If the device is not to be used for a long period of time, remove the batteries to prevent damage or injury from possible battery leakage.

5. Do not try to recharge batteries not intended to be recharged; they can overheat and rupture. (Follow battery manufacturer’s directions.)

AC CONNECTION

Unwind the AC cord and extend it to its full length. Insert the end of the AC cord into any convenient 120V 60Hz household outlet. Please note that this unit is equipped with a polarized AC plug which has one blade wider than the other. This is a safety feature to reduce the likelihood of electric shock. This polarized AC plug will only fit in a polarized AC outlet. If you find that you cannot insert this plug into your outlet, you may have an obsolete non-polarized outlet. Please do not try to defeat this safety feature by using a non-polarized adapter or by filing the wider blade to make it fit into your outlet. If this plug does not fit into your outlet, you should contact a qualified licensed electrician to replace your obsolete outlet.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

• Before moving or lifting the unit, make sure the power plug is disconnected from the power source.

• Do not move or lift the unit during playing/loading of a CD as this may cause malfunction to the CD mechanism.

• If there is a power failure or the AC cord is disconnected, when the AC cord is connected again, the clock will be reset ("12:00" will appear in the display) and you will need to set the clock again.

CONNECTING AN EXTERNAL UNIT

NOTES:

• Connecting the unit to an external audio source will allow you to broadcast the external unit’s sound through

this unit’s speakers.

• When connecting the external unit, refer to the owner’s manual of the external unit, as well as this manual.

• When connecting the external unit, make sure the power is off and both units are unplugged before making any

connections.

To hear the unit connected to the Aux In jacks, turn both units on, then press the FUNCTION button until the AUX indicator appears in the display.

REMOTE SENSOR

To operate the unit with the remote control, point the remote at the remote sensor on the front of the main unit and press the appropriate button. The remote control has an effective operating range of approximately 15 feet and an angle of no more than 30 NOTE: Bright sunlight may interfere with the operation of the remote control.
