When shipped from the factory, the TV/CATV menu option is set to the “CATV”(Cable Television) mode. If not using CATV, set this menu option to the “TV” position. 9. VENTILATION

Slots and openings in the cabinet back or bottom are provided for ventilation, and to ensure reliable operation of the unit, and to protect it from overheating. These openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings should never be blocked by placing the unit on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This unit should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat source. This unit should not be placed in a built-in installation such as a bookcase or rack unless proper ventilation is provided or the manufacturer’s instructions have been adhered to.

10. POWER SOURCES

This unit should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the rating plate. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your appliance dealer or local power company. For units intended to operate from battery power, or other sources, refer to the operating instructions.

11. GROUNDING OR POLARIZATION

This unit is equipped with a polarized alternatingcurrent line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug, if your unit is equipped with a 3-wire grounding-type plug, a plug having a third (grounding) pin. This plug will only fit into a grounding-type power outlet. This too, is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug into the outlet, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the groundingtype plug.

12. POWER-CORD PROTECTION

Power-supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the appliance.

13. LIGHTNING

To protect your unit from a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage to the unit due to lightning and power line surges.

14. POWER LINES

An outside antenna system should not be located in the vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light or power circuits, or where it can fall into such power lines or circuits. When installing an outside antenna system, extreme care should be taken to keep from touching such power lines or circuits, as contact with them might be fatal.

15. OVERLOADING

Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords, as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock.

16. OBJECT AND LIQUID ENTRY

Do not push objects through any openings in this unit, as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could result in fire or electric shock. Never spill or spray any type of liquid into the unit.

17. OUTDOOR ANTENNA GROUNDING

If an outside antenna or cable system is connected to the unit, be sure the antenna or cable system is grounded to provide some protection against voltage surges and built-up static charges, Section 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, provides information with respect to proper grounding of the mast and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conductors, location of antenna discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode.

18. SERVICING

Do not attempt to service this unit yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

19. DAMAGE REQUIRING SERVICE

Unplug this unit from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions:

a. When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged. b. If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen

into the unit. c. If the unit has been exposed to rain or water. d. If the unit does not operate normally by

following the operating instructions. Adjust only

those controls that are covered by the operat-

ing instructions, as an improper adjustment of

other controls may result in damage and will

often require extensive work by a qualified

technician to restore the unit to its normal

operation. e. If the unit has been dropped or the cabinet has

performance, this indicates a need for service.

20. REPLACEMENT PARTS

When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician uses replacement parts specified by the manufacturer or those that have the same characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire, electric shock or other hazards.

21. SAFETY CHECK

Upon completion of any service or repairs to this unit, ask the service technician to perform safety checks to determine that the unit is in proper operating condition.

22. WALL OR CEILING MOUNTING

The product should be mounted to a wall or ceiling only as recommended by the manufacturer.

23. HEAT

The product should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other products (including amplifiers) that produce heat.

24. NOTE TO CATV SYSTEM INSTALLER

This reminder is provided to call the CATV system installer’s attention to Article 820-40 of the NEC that provides guidelines for proper grounding and, in particular, specifies that the cable ground shall be connected to the grounding system of the building, as close to the point of cable entry as practical.

• If you cause a static discharge when touching the unit, and the unit fails to function, simply unplug the unit from the wall outlet, wait 10 minutes and plug it back in. The unit should return to normal operation.

• Avoid extreme heat or cold.

• Do not place the unit on or near appliances which may

cause electromagnetic interference (e.g. speakers, etc). Doing so may cause erratic operation of the unit including picture and/or sound distortion or noise.

• Avoid extreme moisture and dust.

• The ventilation holes prevent overheating. Do not

block or cover these holes. Especially avoid covering the holes with soft materials such as cloth or paper.

• Do not insert fingers or any other objects into the cassette loading slot. Do not spray cleaner or wax directly on the unit or use forced air to remove dust.

• Avoid places subject to strong vibration. Use in a horizontal (flat) position only.

• Keep the unit away from flower vases, sinks, etc. If liquids should be spilled into the unit, serious damage will result. If you spill any liquids into the unit, unplug the AC power cord immediately and consult qualified service personnel before attempting to use it again.

• When you finish operating the unit, always unload the cassette and turn off the power.

• When you leave your home for a long time, unplug the AC power cord.

• To protect the unit from a lightning storm, unplug the AC power cord from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna.

DO NOT OPERATE ANY FUNCTIONS ON THIS UNIT FOR AT LEAST TWO OR THREE HOURS WHEN MOISTURE IN THE AIR CONDENSES ON IT. LET THE UNIT STAND WITH POWER ON (SEE BELOW).

■ WHA T IS MOISTURE CONDENSATION?

When a cold liquid is poured into a glass, for example, water vapor in the air will condense on the surface of the glass. This is called moisture condensation.

■ MOISTURE WILL CONDENSE ON THE UNIT IN

THE FOLLOWING CASES:

• When you move the unit from a cold to a warm place.

• After heating a cold room or under extremely humid

conditions.

■ WHEN YOU EXPERIENCE THE ABOVE CONDI-

TIONS,

Plug the power cord into an AC outlet, press the POWER button to turn on and leave the unit at room temperature until moisture condensation disappears. Depending on the surrounding conditions, this may take two or three hours.

Use the AC polarized line cord provided for operation on AC. Insert the AC cord plug into a standard 120V 60Hz polarized AC outlet.

NOTES: • Never connect the AC line cord plug to

• If the polarized AC cord does not fit into a nonpolarized AC outlet, do not attempt to file or cut the blade. It is the user's responsibility to have an electrician replace the obsolete outlet.

8-Programs/1-Month Programmable Timer With Everyday/Every Week Capability - The built-in timer allows

automatic absentee recording of up to 8 TV programs within 1 month. It is also possible to record a program which is broadcast at the same time everyday or every week.

Automatic Clock Set - Once your TV/VCR is connected to an antenna or Cable TV, and also connected into the AC outlet, it automatically sets the correct date and time.

Automatic Repeat Play System - When Auto Repeat option is turned on, the TV/VCR will automatically play back the same cassette tape repeatedly.

One-touch Timer Recording (OTR) - Simply by pressing the REC/OTR button, the TV/VCR can be programmed for up to 5 hours of recording with an immediate start.

Audio/Video Input Jacks - A VCR or other video device may be hooked up to this TV/VCR for dubbing or playback purposes.

Skip Search - When the SKIP SEARCH button on the remote control is pressed during playback, the TV/VCR will automatically search forward in 30 second increments to a maximum of 3 minutes with each press of the SKIP SEARCH button, and then return to normal playback.

2 Speed Picture Search - 3 or 5 times normal speed in SP mode (7X or 9X in LP and 9X or 15X in SLP).

3 Speed Playback - Plays three tape speeds (SP, LP, SLP).

2 Speed Record - Records two tape speeds (SP, SLP).

Real Time Tape Counter With Zero Return - The counter

displays the real tape time and the zero return can be used to return the tape to a pre-selected position (00:00:00) while the counter can be used to locate programs.

Digital Auto Tracking - Automatically adjusts tracking during playback for the best possible picture.

On-Screen 3 Language Display - You can select one of 3 languages, English, Spanish or French for on-screen programming.

TV Monitor - When the TV MONI. button on the remote control is pressed during playback, the TV channel selected on the TV/VCR can be viewed.

15. AUTO TRACKING Button - Allows automatic

adjustment of tracking to minimize picture noise during playback.

16. TV/CAP/TEXT Button - Switches between Caption, Text and TV modes for Closed-Captioned programs.

17. SLEEP Button - Sets the TV to turn off automatically after up to 120 minutes.

18. INPUT SELECT Button - Switches the program for viewing between the TV/VCR and external input sources.

19. PLAY Button - Press to play a prerecorded tape.

20. SET/TRACKING + / – Buttons - Used to set or

adjust in the menu mode. During playback, they are used to adjust tracking manually.

21. COUNTER RESET Button - Used to reset the counter to 00:00:00.

22. EJECT Button - Press to eject the tape.

23. VOLUME Up / Down Buttons - Press the Up

button to increase, or the Down button to decrease the volume level.

24. PAUSE/STILL Button - During recording, this button temporarily stops the tape. During playback, it stops the tape and displays a still image on the TV screen.

25. STOP Button - Press once to stop the tape.

26. ENTER Button - Press to enter or select information

for on-screen operations.

27. CANCEL Button - Used to clear the selected program and to move the cursor backward.

28. TIMER REC Button - Used to set the TV/VCR to start recording at a preset time (Timer program must be set).

29. ZERO RETURN Button - Use to stop the tape when the counter reaches 00:00:00.

1. POWER Button - Press to turn the TV/VCR on.

Press again to turn the TV/VCR off.

2. Direct Channel Selection Buttons (0-9) - Allows direct access to any channel.

3. CALL Button - Displays the present time/day of the week, channel, counter, speed selection (and VCR mode if VCR is playing) on the TV screen.

4. REC/OTR Button - Press once to start normal recording. Additional presses activate One-touch Timer Recording.

5. REW (Rewind) Button - In the Stop mode, this button rapidly winds the tape backwards. In the Play mode, this button activates reverse search.

6. SPEED Button - Sets the tape speed for recording.

7. MENU Button - Press to display the On-Screen

menu function.

8. PROGRAM Button - Press to confirm the programmed timer recording and ON/OFF timer.

9. SKIP SEARCH Button - Press in the playback mode to search forward in 30 second increments to a maximum of 3 minutes.

10. TV MONI. Button - Used to temporarily view a TV channel selected on the TV/VCR while in the playback mode.

11. CHANNEL Up / Down Buttons - Press the Up button to change to a higher numbered channel set into memory. Press the Down button to change to a lower numbered channel set into memory.

12. QUICK VIEW Button - Switches between the present channel and the last channel selected.

13. MUTING Button - Press to turn off the sound. Press again to turn the sound back on.

14. F.FWD (Fast Forward) Button - In the Stop mode, this button rapidly winds the tape forward. In the Play mode, this button activates forward search.

Connect the VHF 75 ohm cable and UHF 300 ohm twin-lead wire to the Combiner (not supplied). Attach the Combiner to the Antenna Jack.

If you are using an indoor or outdoor antenna, follow the instructions below that correspond to your antenna system. If you are using a cable TV service (CATV), see page 11 for Cable TV connections.

Connect the UHF 300 ohm twin-lead wire to the Combiner (not supplied). Connect the VHF 300 ohm twin-lead wire to the 300-75 ohm Matching Transformer. Attach the Transformer to the Combiner, then attach the Combiner to the Antenna Jack.

ANTENNA CONNECTIONS

This TV/VCR has an extended tuning range and can tune most cable channels without using a Cable TV converter box. Some cable companies offer "premium pay channels" in which the signal is scrambled. Descrambling these signals for normal viewing requires the use of a descrambler device which is generally provided by the cable company.

For basic cable service not requiring a Converter/Descrambler box, connect the CATV 75 ohm Coaxial Cable directly to the Antenna Jack on the back of the TV/VCR.

If you subscribe to a cable TV service which requires the use of a Converter/Descrambler box, connect the incoming 75 ohm Coaxial Cable to the Converter/Descrambler box. Using another 75 ohm Coaxial Cable, connect the output jack of the Converter/Descrambler box to the Antenna Jack on the TV/VCR. Follow the connections shown below. Set the TV/VCR to the output channel of the Converter/Descrambler box (usually channel 3 or 4) and use the Converter/ Descrambler box to select channels.

If you subscribe to a cable TV service in which basic channels are unscrambled and premium channels require the use of a Converter/Descrambler box, you may wish to use a signal splitter and an A/B Switch box (available from the Cable company or an electronics supply store). Follow the connections shown below. With the switch in the "B" position, you can directly tune any nonscrambled channels on your TV/VCR. With the switch in the "A" position, tune your TV/VCR to the output of the Converter/Descrambler box (usually channel 3 or 4) and use the Converter/ Descrambler box to tune scrambled channels.

The Auto Clock function will automatically set the built-in clock (Month, Day, Year and Time) when the TV/VCR is connected to an Antenna or Cable system and it is turned off. As the TV/VCR searches for a receivable station in your area, it will also receive a broadcast signal for Auto Clock which will automatically set the clock and date.The Auto Clock needs several minutes to set itself.

The Auto Clock Adjustment will be performed at 12:00 PM everyday if you turn off the TV/VCR.

• If you use a cable box and you want Auto Clock adjust-

ment to be performed, the cable box must be left on.

• The Auto Clock Adjustment is not effective when there

is a difference of more than 5 minutes between the built-in clock time and the actual time.

NOTES: • To be able to select the standard time, the

• If you live in Newfoundland and the Auto Clock does not function properly, set the AUTO CLOCK menu option to OFF and set the clock manually.

In the rare event that you live within broadcast range of two stations in two different time zones, the TV/VCR may recognize the wrong station for the Auto Clock set. To correct the situation:

Press the CALL button. The clock, date, channel number , real time tape counter, tape speed and VCR operation will be indicated. Press CALL button again to remove the call display.

Press MUTING button to switch off the sound. The TV/VCR’s sound will be silenced and “MUTING” will briefly appear on the screen. The sound can be switched back on by pressing this button again or one of the VOLUME Up or Down buttons.

MUTING

Press and release the CHANNEL Up or Down button. The channel automatically stops at the next channel set into memory. For proper operation, before selecting channels, they should be set into the memory.

headphone (not supplied) with a 1/8" mini plug into the PHONES jack on the front. The sound from the TV speaker is muted.

To set the TV/VCR to turn off after a preset amount of time, press the SLEEP button on the remote control. The clock will count down 10 minutes for each press of the SLEEP button (120, 1 10, ...10, 0). After the sleep time is programmed, the display will appear briefly every ten minutes to remind you that the sleep timer is operating. To confirm the sleep timer setting, press the SLEEP button and the remaining time will be momentarily displayed. T o cancel the sleep timer , press the SLEEP button repeatedly until the display turns to 0.

WHAT IS CLOSED CAPTIONING?

This television has the capability to decode and display Closed Captioned television programs. Closed Captioning will display text on the screen for hearing impaired viewers or it will translate and display text in another language.

Captions: This Closed Caption Mode will display text on

the screen in English or another language (depending on the setting of the Closed Captions CH. 1 or 2). Generally, Closed Captions in English are transmitted on Captions Channel 1 and Closed Captions in other languages are transmitted on Captions Channel 2.

Text: The Text Closed Caption Mode will usually fill the screen with a programming schedule or other information. After selecting a Closed Caption Mode, it will stay in effect until it is changed, even if the channel is changed. If the Captions signal is lost due to a commercial or a break in the signal, the Captions will reappear when the signal is received again. If the channels are changed, the Captions will be delayed approximately 10 seconds. The Captions will appear in places on the screen where they will least interfere with the picture, usually on the bottom of the screen. News programs will usually show three-line Closed Captions which scroll onto the screen. Most other shows provide two or three lined Captions placed near the character who is speaking so the viewer can follow the dialogue. Words in italics or underlined describe titles, words in foreign languages or words requiring emphasis. Words that are sung usually appear enclosed by musical notes. For television programs broadcasting with Closed Captions, look in your TV guide for the Closed Captions symbol (CC).

• When selecting Closed Captions, the captioning will be delayed approximately 10 seconds.

• If no caption signal is received, no captions will appear, but the television will remain in the Caption Mode.

• When Captions are being displayed, on-screen displays, such as volume and mute may not be seen or may interfere with Closed Captions.

• Misspellings or unusual characters may occasionally appear during Closed Captioning. This is normal with Closed Captioning, especially with live programs. This is because during live programs, captions are also entered live. These transmissions do not allow time for editing.

• Some cable systems and copy protection systems may interfere with the Closed Captioned signal.

Picture controls are factory preset but you can adjust them individually as follows:

1 To display the picture adjustment

screen, press the MENU button. Press the SET/TRACKING + or – button to select the TV SET-UP option, then press the ENTER button.

2 Press the SET/TRACKING + or –

button to select the PICTURE option, then press the ENTER button.

BRIGHTNESS

Press the ENTER button until “BRIGHTNESS” appears on the screen, then press the SET/ TRACKING + or – button to adjust the brightness of the picture. When the SET/TRACKING + button is pressed, the darker portions of the picture become lighter.

CONTRAST

Press the ENTER button until “CONTRAST” appears on the screen, then press the SET/TRACKING + or – button to adjust the contrast of the picture. Pictures look sharpest in the daytime (bright light) by increasing the contrast. At night (dim light), the sharpest picture is obtained by reducing the contrast.

NOTE: The CONTRAST default setting is set to maximum

at the factory.

COLOR

Press the ENTER button until “COLOR” appears on the screen, then press the SET/TRACKING + or – button to adjust the color intensity of the picture. The control should be set when colors appear normal in intensity and brilliance.

TINT

Press the ENTER button until “TINT” appears on the screen, then press the SET/TRACKING + or – button to adjust the tint of the picture. This determines how accurately the colors are reproduced by the TV. Adjusting the tint for natural facial tone is the best method of obtaining accurate color reproduction of the entire picture.

SHARPNESS

Press the ENTER button until “SHARPNESS” appears on the screen, then press the SET/ TRACKING + or – button to adjust the sharpness of the picture.

CANCEL

Pressing the CANCEL button while making picture adjustments will return all adjustments to the factory preset levels.

NOTE: The On-screen display will disappear 6 seconds

after finishing an adjustment or by pressing the MENU button three times. The settings can only be adjusted when they are displayed on the TV screen.

When a tape is played, the Digital Auto Tracking system automatically adjusts the tracking to obtain the best possible picture. If noise bars appear during playback, adjust the tracking manually as follows:

• Press the SET/TRACKING + or – button to obtain the best possible picture. “MANUAL TR.” will appear for 4 seconds on the screen. To resume automatic tracking, press the AUTO TRACKING button. “AUTO TR.” will appear for 4 seconds on the screen.

Push the center of the tape until it is automatically retracted into the TV/VCR.

AUTOMATIC POWER ON AND PLAY

When loading a cassette tape without the erase prevention tab intact, the TV/VCR will turn on automatically and playback will start immediately.

Insert the cassette with its labeled side facing you. An inverted video cassette cannot be inserted.

AUTOMA TIC EJECT

If the TV/VCR automatically rewinds the tape to the beginning (AUTO REWIND FEATURE), the tape will be ejected automatically (See NOTE on page 20).

NOTES: • Always eject the tape when not in use.

• The cassette tape can be ejected even if the

POWER is “OFF”.

To unload a video cassette, press the EJECT button on the remote control, or press the STOP/EJECT button on the TV/VCR twice. The first press will stop the tape in any mode. The second press will eject the tape.

After recording, break off the erase prevention tab if you do not wish to record over the tape.

Cover the hole with adhesive tape. Be careful the tape does not extend past the edges of the video cassette housing.

When either the F.FWD or REW button is pressed in the PLAYBACK mode, the speed search picture will appear. When pressed twice, the search picture will increase speed. Speed search time depends upon the speed used (SP, LP or SLP) during recording. See chart below. To visually search backward or forward, press the REW or F.FWD button once or twice in the PLAYBACK mode. Press the PLAY button to resume normal viewing speed.

Timer recording can be programmed on-screen with the remote control. The built-in timer allows automatic unattended recording of up to 8 programs within 1 month.

The On-Screen Real Time Tape Counter shows the tape running time in Hours, Minutes and Seconds. You can easily determine how long the tape has been running or how much time is left on the tape.

If you connect the TV/VCR to another VCR or Camcorder, you can duplicate a previously recorded tape. Make all connections before turning on the power.

1 Insert a blank cassette with the erase prevention tab

intact into the TV/VCR. Insert a previously recorded cassette into the playback VCR or Camcorder.

2 Press the INPUT SELECT button

twice to select AUDIO/VIDEO input position. The "LINE " will appear on the screen.

3 Press the REC/OTR button on the remote control of

the TV/VCR, then press the PAUSE/STILL button.

4 Press the PLAY Button on the playback VCR, then

press the PAUSE/STILL button.

5 Press the PAUSE/STILL buttons on both units

simultaneously to begin the duplicating process.

NOTES: • It is recommended that the tape speed be set

to the SP mode on the TV/VCR for best result.

• Unauthorized recording of copyrighted television programs, films, video cassettes and other materials may infringe the rights of copyright owners and be contrary to copyright laws.

For duplicating a previously recorded tape from a camcorder, follow the camcorder manufacturer’s instructions. A typical camcorder dubbing hookup is shown below.

IGNITION

Black spots or horizontal streaks may appear, the picture may flutter or drift. Usually caused by interference from automobile ignition systems, neon lamps or AC powered tools and appliances such as drills or hair dryers.

GHOSTS

Ghosts are caused by the television signal following two paths. One is the direct path and the other is reflected by tall buildings, hills or other large objects. Changing the direction or position of the antenna may improve the reception.

SNOW

If the TV/VCR is located far from the TV station, in a fringe reception area where the signal is weak, small dots may appear in the picture. If the signal is extremely weak, the installation of a larger external antenna may be necessary.

RADIO FREQUENCY INTERFERENCE (RFI)

Caused by two-way radios, this type of interference produces moving ripples or diagonal streaks in the picture. Some cases may cause a loss of contrast in the picture. Changing the direction and position of the antenna or installing an RFI filter may improve the picture.

PICTURE SIZE VARIATION

A slight picture size variation is normal when you adjust the CONTRAST or BRIGHTNESS settings.

Most types of television interference can be remedied by adjusting the height and position of the VHF/UHF antenna. Outdoor antennas are recommended for best results. The most common types of television interference are shown below. If one of these symptoms appear when the TV/VCR is connected to a Cable TV system, the disturbance may be caused by the local Cable TV company broadcast.

To prevent fire or shock hazard, disconnect the TV/VCR from the AC power sources before cleaning. The finish on the cabinet may be cleaned with mild soap and a soft, damp cloth and cared for as other furniture. Use caution when cleaning or wiping the plastic parts.

The video heads are the means by which the TV/VCR reads the picture from the tape during playback. In the unlikely event that the heads become dirty enough to be clogged, no picture will be played back. This can easily be determined if, during playback of a known good tape, there is good sound, but no picture (picture is extremely snowy). If this is the case, use a high quality head cleaning system or have them cleaned professionally.

Video head cleaning is needed when the playback picture becomes unclear. This signifies that the heads are getting dirty and can occur when playing poor quality or damaged tapes. If the heads require cleaning, use a equivalent high quality chemical non-abrasive (wet) head cleaning tape or have them cleaned professionally. If playing a head cleaning tape in the VCR once does not improve the picture, play it several times before requesting service.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN THE VIDEO HEADS OR SERVICE THE UNIT BY REMOVING THE TOP COVER.

NOTES: • Video heads may eventually wear out and

should be replaced when they fail to produce clear pictures.

• To help prevent video head clogging, use only good quality VHS tapes. Discard worn out tapes.

12. Protection du cordon d’alimentation

Le cordon d’alimentation doit être acheminé de façon à ne pas être écrasé ni coincé. Il faut aussi faire attention aux fiches, prises et points de sortie de l’appareil.

13. Orage électrique

Pour éviter les dommages causés par la foudre ou les soudaines hausses de tension, débranchez l’appareil de la prise électrique et déconnectez l’antenne ou le système de câblodistribution, si l'appareil doit rester sans surveillance et inutilisé pendant une longue période.

14. Lignes de haute tension

L’antenne extérieure ne doit pas être placée à proximité de lignes d’alimentation aériennes ni de fils électriques, ni de telle façon qu’elle pourrait toucher ces lignes ou fils en tombant. Pendant l’installation de l’antenne extérieure, il faut veiller à ne pas toucher ces lignes ou fils car leur contact peut être fatal.

18. Service ou réparation

Le consommateur ne doit pas essayer de réparer l’appareil lui-même, mais doit se limiter aux réglages décrits dans le manuel d’instructions. En cas de besoin, confiez l’appareil à un centre de service autorisé.

8. Emplacement de l’appareil

19. Dommages exigeant des réparations

CONDENSATION D’HUMIDITÉ

PRÉCAUTIONS

N’UTILISEZ PAS CE MAGNETOSCOPE PENDANT AU MOINS DEUX A TROIS HEURES QUAND L’HUMIDITE DANS L’AIR PRODUIT DE LA CONDENSATION DANS L’APPAREIL.

■ QUE SIGNIFIE LA CONDENSATION?

Par exemple, quand on verse un liquide froid dans un verre, de la vapeur d’humidité se condense sur la surface du verre et forme de la buée. C’est de la condensation.

■ DANS LES CAS SUIVANTS, DE LA CONDENSA

TION PEUT SE DEPOSER SUR L’APPAREIL:

• Quand vous déplacez l’appareil d’un endroit froid à un endroit chaud.

• Après avoir chauffé une pièce froide ou si l’humidité ambiante est très élevée.

■ SI UNE DE CES SITUATIONS SE PRESENTE,

Branchez le cordon d’alimentation à une prise du CA, mettez l’appareil en circuit et laissez-le à la température ambiante jusqu’à ce que la condensation disparaisse. Selon les conditions ambiantes, cela peut prendre de deux à trois heures.

• Si vous sentez une décharge statique quand vous touchez l’appareil et s’il ne fonctionne pas, débranchez-le simplement de la prise murale, attendez 10 minutes puis branchez-le à nouveau. L'appareil devrait fonctionner normalement.

• Evitez les chaleurs et les froids extrêmes. (41˚F/5˚C-104˚F/40˚C)

• Ne placez pas l’appareil à proximité ou sur des appareils pouvant causer des interférences électromagnétiques, comme un téléviseur , un hautparleur, etc., car cela peut affecter négativement le fonctionnement de l’appareil en déformant l’image ou/ et le son ou en créant des parasites.

• Evitez les endroits très humides et/ou poussiéreux.

• Les orifices d’aération empêchent le surchauffage.

Ne bloquez pas et ne couvrez pas ces orifices. Evitez spécialement de couvrir les orifices d’objets mous comme du tissu ou du papier.

• N’insérez pas les doigts ni aucun autre objet dans le compartiment à cassette. Ne vaporisez pas de nettoyant ni de cire sur l’appareil et n’utilisez pas de l’air forcé pour enlever la poussière.

• Evitez les endroits sujets à vibrations. Placez toujours l’appareil à l’horizontale (à plat).

• Ne placez pas l’appareil près de vases à fleurs, d’un évier, etc., car la pénétration d’un liquide à l’intérieur

peut causer de sérieux dommages. Si cela se produit, débranchez mmédiatement l’appareil du CA et contactez un réparateur qualifié avant d’essayer de le remettre en marche.

• Quand vous avez terminé d’utiliser l’appareil, retirez la cassette du compartiment et mettez l’appareil hors circuit.

• Si vous vous absentez de votre domicile pour une période prolongée, débranchez le cordon d’alimentation de la prise électrique du CA.

• Pour protéger le magnétoscope en cas d'orage, débranchez le cordon d'alimentation de la prise murale et déconnectez l'antenne.

EMPLACEMENT ET MANIPULATION

Utiliser le cordon du CA polarisé qui convient à l'opération du CA. Insérez la fiche du CA à la prise du CA polarisée (120 volts, 60 hertz). REMARQUES: •Ne branchez jamais le cordon du CA

sur une prise à tension autre que celle spécifiée (120 volts, 60 hertz) et utilisez seulement le cordon d’alimentation fourni.

•S’il est impossible d’insérer la fiche polarisée dans une prise du CA non polarisée, n’essayez pas de couper ni de limer la lame la plus large, Il incombe à l'utilisateur de demander à un électricien de remplacer la prise désuète.

Enregistrement simplifié une touche (OTR) - En pressant simplement la touche REC/OTR, l'appareil peut être programmé pour commencer à enregistrer immédiatement pendant une durée pouvant aller jusqu'à 5 heures.

Prises d'entrée audio/vidéo - Un autre magnétoscope ou un autre appareil vidéo peut être raccordé à cet appareil, pour la copie ou la lecture de bande.

Recherche par saut - Quand vous appuyez sur la touche SKIP SEARCH sur la télécommande pendant la lecture, le téleviseur/magnétoscope effectue une recherche vers l’avant sur des portions 30 secondes de lecture jusqu' à un maximum de 3 minutes à chaque pression sur la touche SKIP SEARCH, puis reprend la lecture normale.

Recherche d'image à 2 vitesses - 3 ou 5 fois la vitesse normale en mode SP (7X ou 9X en LP et 9 X ou 15 X en mode SLP).

Lecture à 3 vitesses - Choix de 3 vitesses (SP, LP, SLP) pour reproduire la bande.

EMPLACEMENT DES COMMANDES

AVANT:

1. Compartiment à cassette - Insérez la

vidéocassette dans ce compartiment et retirez-la après son éjection.

2. Interrupteur d'alimentation (POWER) - Pour mettre l'appareil en ou hors circuit.

3. Touche d'arrêt/éjection (STOP/EJECT) - Pressez une fois pour arrêter la bande. Pressez encore une fois pour éjecter la cassette.

4. Touche de lecture (PLAY) - Pressez pour effectuer la lecture d'une bande pré-enregistrée.

5. Touche d'enregistrement/enregistrement simplifié (REC/OTR) - Pressez une fois pour

commencer un enregistrement ordinaire. Pressez plusieurs fois pour mettre en circuit l'enregistrement simplifié une touche (OTR).

6. Capteur de la télécommande - Les signaux de la télécommande sont reçus ici.

7. Voyant d'enregistrement/enregistrement simplifié (REC/OTR) - S'allume quand l'appareil

est en mode d'enregistrement.

8. Voyant d'enregistrement programmé (T -REC) -

S'allume quand la touche TIMER REC est pressée.

9. Prise d'écouteur (PHONES) - Pour l'écoute en privé, branchez un écouteur ou un casque d'écoute monophonique à mini fiche de 1/8" sur cette prise.

10. Commandes de volume (VOLUME ▲ / ▼) -

Pressez pour augmenter ou réduire le volume.

11. Sélecteurs de canaux (CHANNEL ▲ / ▼) - Pour choisir un canal dont vous voulez regarder ou enregistrer l'émission.

12. Touche de rebobinage (REW) - En mode d'arrêt, cette touche fait défiler rapidement la bande en marche arrière. En mode de lecture, cette touche actionne la recherche rapide en marche arrière.

13. Touche d’avance rapide (F.FWD) - En mode d’arrêt, fait défiler la bande rapidement en marche avant. En mode de lecture, cette touche actionne la recherche rapide en marche avant.

Pour raccorder les câbles d'entrée des signaux audio/vidéo provenant d'une source extérieure.

1. Interrupteur d'alimentation (POWER) - Pressez-le pour

mettre l'appareil en et hors circuit.

2. Touches numériques d'accès direct (0 à 9) - Permet l'accès direct à tout canal de télévision.

3. Touche de rappel (CALL) - Pour faire apparaître à l'écran l'heure actuelle/le jour de la semaine, le numéro du canal, l'indication du compteur, la vitesse choisie (et le mode VCR, si le magnétoscope est utilisé).

4. Touche d'enregistrement/enregistrement simplifié (REC/ OTR) - Pressez une fois pour commencer un enregistrement

ordinaire, plusieurs fois pour activer l'enregistrement simplifié une touche (OTR).

5. Touche de rebobinage (REW) - En mode d'arrêt, fait défiler la bande rapidement en marche arrière. En mode de lecture, l'appareil passe au mode de recherche arrière.

6. Sélecteur de la vitesse de défilement (SPEED) - Pour choisir la vitesse d'enregistrement.

7. Touche de MENU - Pressez pour faire apparaître le menu des fonctions à l’écran.

8. Touche de confirmation de programmation (PROGRAM) -

Pressez pour activer l'enregistrement par minuterie et la minuterie de mise sous/hors tension.

9. Touche de recherche avec évitement (SKIP SEARCH) -

Appuyez, pendant le mode de lecture, pour faire une recherche vers l'avant par portions de 30 secondes jusqu' à un maximum de 3 minutes.

10. Touche de contrôle (TV MONI.) - Tout en étant en mode de lecture, pressez cette touche pour voir temporairement le signal du canal choisi sur le téléviseur/magnétoscope.

11. Touches de réglage des canaux (CHANNEL Dessus / Bas) -

Pressez la touche + pour passer à un canal à numéro plus élevé mis en mémoire. Pressez la touche – pour passer à un canal à numéro plus bas mis en mémoire.

12. Touche de revue rapide (QUICK VIEW) - Pour passer du canal syntonisé à celui que vous regardiez auparavant.

13. Touche de mise en sourdine (MUTING) - Pressez pour couper temporairement le son. Pressez-la de nouveau pour le rétablir.

14. Touche d’avance rapide (F.FWD) - En mode d’arrêt, fait défiler la bande rapidement en marche avant. En mode de lecture, l’appareil passe au mode de recherche avant.

15. Touche d'alignement numérique automatique (AUTO

TRACKING) - Permet le réglage automatique de l'alignement,

pour minimiser les parasites visuels pendant la lecture.

16. Sélecteur de télévision/sous-titre/texte (TV/CAP/TEXT) -

Pressez pour passer entre le visionnement de la télévision ou les deux modes de sous-titrage (sous-titres ou texte).

17. Touche d'arrêt différé (SLEEP) - Pour régler l'appareil pour qu'il se mette automatiquement hors circuit après une période pouvant aller jusqu'à 120 minutes.

18. Touche de sélection entrée (INPUT SELECT) - Permet de sélectionner la source du signal vidéo transmis au téléviseur, pour qu’il provienne du magnétoscope ou d’une source externe.

19. Touche de lecture (PLAY) - Pressez pour reproduire une vidéocassette pré-enregistrée.

20. Touches de réglage en ordre croissant/décroissant (SET/ TRACKING + / –) -

Utilisées pour régler ou ajuster le mode de menu. Pendant la lecture, elles sont utilisées pour ajuster manuellement l’alignement.

21. Touche de remise à zéro du compteur (COUNTER RESET) -

Pour remettre le compteur de bande à zéro "00:00:00".

22. Touche d'éjection (EJECT) - Pressez éjecter la cassette.

23. Touches de réglage du VOLUME (Dessus / Bas) - Pour

augmenter le volume, pressez la touche +; pour le diminuer, pressez la touche.

24. T ouche de pause/image fixe (P AUSE/STILL) - Pendant l'enregistrement, pressez pour arrêter temporairement la bande. Pendant la lecture, il arrête le défilement de la bande et fixe l'image à l'écran.

25. Touche d'arrêt (STOP) - Pressez pour arrêter le défilement de la bande.

26. Touche d’entrée (ENTER) - Appuyez sur cette touche pour choisir ou valider des informations destinées à être affichées sur l'écran.

27. Touche d’annulation (CANCEL) - Pour annuler la programmation d’un certain enregistrement différé, et pour reculer le curseur.

28. Touche d'enregistrement programmé (TIMER REC) - Pour que l'appareil commence à enregistrer à une heure prédéterminée (La programmation de la minuterie doit être réglée).

29. Touche de remise à zéro (ZERO RETURN) - Pour arrêter la bande quand le compteur atteint "00:00:00".

Raccordez le câble de 75 ohms de l'antenne VHF et le fil jumelé de l'antenne UHF de 300 ohms au multiplexeur (non fourni) et branchez ce dernier sur la prise d'antenne.

Si vous utilisez une antenne intérieure ou extérieure, suivez les directives ci-dessous, qui correspondent à votre genre d'antenne. Si vous êtes abonné à un service de câblodistribution (CATV), voyez les directives de la page 11.

Raccordez le fil jumelé UHF de 300 ohms à un multiplexeur (non fourni). Raccordez le fil jumelé VHF de 300 ohms au transformateur adapté 300/75 ohms. Raccordez le transformateur au multiplexeur puis branchez le multiplexeur sur la prise d'antenne.

RACCORDEMENTS DES ANTENNES

Raccordez le câble de 75 ohms de l'antenne combinée VHF/UHF à la prise d'antenne. Si votre antenne VHF/UHF combinée est dotée d'un fil jumelé de 300 ohms, il est peut-être nécessaire d'utiliser un transformateur adapté 300/75 ohms.

LANGUAGE/IDIOMA/LANGUE

Ce téléviseur/magnétoscope a une gamme de syntonisation étendue et peut capter la plupart des canaux sans utiliser un convertisseur. Certaines compagnies de câblodistribution permettent le visionnement de "canaux payants" dont le signal est brouillé. Pour regarder ces signaux, un débrouilleur, en général fourni par la compagnie, est nécessaire.

Pour les services de base du câble sans convertisseur/débrouilleur, raccordez directement le câble coaxial 75 ohms de la câblodistribution à la prise d'antenne, à l'endos de l'appareil.

Si vous souscrivez aux services de câblodistribution exigeant l'utilisation d'un convertisseur/débrouilleur, raccordez le câble coaxial d'entrée de 75 ohms au convertisseur/débrouilleur. Au moyen d'un autre câble coaxial de 75 ohms, raccordez la prise de sortie du convertisseur/débrouilleur à la prise d'antenne du téléviseur. Suivez les instructions ci-dessous. Réglez le téléviseur sur le canal de sortie du convertisseur/débrouilleur (en général 3 ou 4) et utilisez le convertisseur/débrouilleur pour choisir le canal.

Câble coaxial 75 ohms

Si vous souscrivez aux services de câblodistribution dont les canaux sont payants et brouillés, exigeant l'utilisation d'un convertisseur/débrouilleur, il est peut-être nécessaire d'utiliser un séparateur et une boîte de commutation A/B (vendus par l'installateur du câble ou dans tout magasin spécialisé). Quand le commutateur A/B est réglé à la position "B", il est possible de syntoniser tous les canaux non brouillés en utilisant le système de syntonisation du téléviseur/magnétoscope. Quand il est réglé à la position "A", il est possible de syntoniser le téléviseur sur le canal de sortie du décodeur (en général 3 ou 4) et d'utiliser le convertisseur/débrouilleur pour syntoniser les canaux brouillés.

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME

La fonction de réglage automatique de l’horloge ajuste automatiquement l’horloge intégrée (mois, jour, année et heure) quand le téléviseur/magnétoscope est connecté à une antenne ou à un système de câble et est hors tension. Lorsque le téléviseur/magnétoscope recherche une station émettant dans votre région, il reçoit également un signal de transmission pour Auto Clock (Horloge automatique) qui règlera automatiquement l’horloge et la date. Il prendra quelques minutes pour remettre l'horloge à l'heure.

L’ajustement automatique de l’horloge est réalisé à minuit tous les jours si le téléviseur/magnétoscope est hors tension.

• Si vous utilisez un boîtier de raccordement au câble et souhaitez que l’ajustement automatique soit réalisé, vous devez le laisser sous tension.

• L’ajustement automatique de l’horloge ne fonctionne pas s’il y a plus de 5 minutes de différence entre l’horloge intégrée et l’heure actuelle.

À la sortie de l’usine, l’option AUTO CLOCK est réglée sur ON (activé). Mais si vous ne souhaitez pas utiliser l’ajustement automatique de l’horloge, effectuez ce qui suit:

1. Mettez le téléviseur/magnétoscope sous tension.

2. Appuyez sur la touche MENU.

3. Appuyez sur la touche SET/TRACKING + ou – pour

choisir l’option SYSTEM SET-UP, puis appuyez sur la touche ENTER.

4. Appuyez sur la touche SET/TRACKING + ou – pour

choisir l’option d’ajustement automatique de l’horloge (AUTO CLOCK).

5. Appuyez sur la touche ENTER pour choisir OFF

(désactivé).

6. Pressez plusieurs fois sur la touche MENU pour retourner

à un écran normal.

• Quand AUT O CLOCK est r églé sur OFF (désactivé),

l’ajustement automatique de l’horloge et la fonction d’heure d’été ne fonctionnent pas.

• Réglez l’horloge manuellement (voir page 13).

1. Connectez l’antenne ou le système de câble.

• Si vous utilisez un boîtier de raccordement au câble,

mettez-le sous tension.

2. Branchez le cordon d’alimentation CA sur une prise de

courant murale.

3. Assurez-vous que le téléviseur soit hors tension.

• Si vous appuyez sur l’interrupteur d’alimentation

(POWER), l’ajustement automatique de l’horloge ne fonctionne pas.

4. Attendez au moins trois minutes et appuyez sur la touche

POWER.

Appuyez sur la touche CALL pour vérifier l’horloge sur l’écran.

6. Si l’horloge n’est pas réglée, vérifiez l’antenne.

L’ajustement automatique de l’horloge ne fonctionne pas si les conditions de réception laissent à désirer.

REMARQUES: • Si vous êtes résident de Terre-Neuve et

que le mode de réglage automatique de l'horloge ne fonctionne pas correctement, désactivez-le en sélectionnant OFF lorsque le menu AUTO CLOCK apparaît à l'écran et réglez l'horloge manuellement.

• Si vous êtes résident de Terre-Neuve et que le mode de réglage automatique de l’horloge ne fonctionne pas correctement, désactivez-le en sélectionnant OFF lorsque le menu AUTO CLOCK apparaît á l’écran et réglez l’horloge manuellement.

Il peut arriver que vous habitiez dans un endroit où deux stations de fuseau horaire différents émettent. Le téléviseur/ magnétoscope peut, dans ce cas, utiliser la mauvaise station pour l’ajustement automatique de l’horloge. Pour corriger ce problème, effectuez ce qui suit:

1.Appuyez sur la touche MENU.

2.Appuyez sur la touche SET/TRACKING + ou – pour

choisir l’option SYSTEM SET-UP, puis appuyez sur la touche ENTER.

1 Pressez l'interrupteur pour mettre l'appareil en circuit. 2 Réglez le volume au niveau

désiré en pressant les touches de réglage du VOLUME Dessus ou Bas. Le niveau du son sera indiqué à l'écran par des barres vertes. Au fur et à mesure que le volume augmente, le nombre de barres augmente aussi à l'écran, et vice versa.

3 Sélectionnez le mode de réception approprié, télévision

ou câblodistribution, à l’aide du sélecteur TV/CATV (Voyez à la page 15).

Vous devez régler la date et l’heure manuellement pour les enregistrements par minuterie, la minuterie de mise sous/hors tension et l’heure d’été si le réglage automatique de l’horloge ne l’a pas fait correctement.

EXEMPLE: On veut régler l'horloge à 8h30 du matin”, le

• Sélection directe des canaux

Quand le menu des options est réglé à la position "TV", tous les canaux peuvent être sélectionnés instantanément en pressant deux touches (par exemple "0" et "2" pour choisir le canal 2. Si vous pressez seulement "2", la sélection du canal peut être retardée de quelques secondes). Pour les canaux supérieurs à 10, pressez les 2 touches, dans l'ordre.

• Sélection directe des canaux câblodistribués

Quand le menu des options est réglé à la position "CATV", les canaux peuvent être captés tel que suit:

• POUR CHOISIR LES CANAUX:

1-9 Pressez deux fois la touche 0, puis 1 à 9, selon le

cas. exemple, pour le canal 2, pressez "002".

10-12 Pressez d'abord la touche 0 puis les deux autres

QUE SIGNIFIE SOUS-TITRAGE?

Ce téléviseur a la capacité de décoder et d'afficher les émissions télévisées avec sous-titres. Ce genre

d'émissions affichent un texte sur l'écran pour les téléspectateurs malentendants, ou traduisent et affichent le texte en une autre langue.

LECTURE DES SOUS-TITRES PAR UN MAGNETOSCOPE

Les émissions à sous-titres peuvent être enregistrées et reproduites par un magnétoscope, avec les sous-titres tels quels. Ces sous-titres disparaissent pendant le mode de repérage (recherche avant), de rebobinage (recherche arrière) et de pause, ou si l'alignement du magnétoscope est mal réglé.

VISIONNEMENT DES EMISSIONS SOUS-TITREES

Pressez la touche TV/CAP/TEXT de la télécommande pour passer du visionnement normal de la télévision aux deux modes de sous-titrage (sous-titres et texte sur tout l'écran).

TELEVISION/SOUS-TITRES/TEXTE (TV/ CAPTION/TEXT)

Pour programmer l'appareil pour qu'il s'éteigne automatiquement après une période prédéterminée, pressez la touche SLEEP de la télécommande. L'heure affichée reculera de 10 minutes à chaque pression, c'està-dire qu'elle comptera 120, 110, 100...20, 10, 0. Après la programmation de la durée avant l'arrêt différé, le chiffre affiché disparaît puis réapparaît temporairement toutes les dix minutes pour rappeler que cette fonction est activée. Pour vérifier la durée restante, pressez une fois la touche SLEEP et cette durée sera temporairement affichée. Pour désactiver cette fonction, pressez de façon répétée la touche SLEEP jusqu'à ce que l'affichage indique "0".

Pressez la touche CALL. L’horloge, la date, le numéro de canal, le compteur de bande en temps réel, la vitesse de la bande et le fonctionnement du magnétoscope seront affichés. Pressez de nouveau la touche CALL pour enlever les informations à l’écran.

Pressez cette touche pour couper la reproduction sonore de l'appareil. Le mot "MUTING" apparaît brièvement à l'écran. Pour rétablir le son, pressez de nouveau la touche MUTING ou une des commandes de volume Dessus ou Bas.

MUTING

Pressez cette touche pour passer entre le visionnement normal de la télévision ou les deux modes de sous-titres (sous-titres ou texte sur le tiers de l'écran). Ces modes sont utilisés pour les téléspectateurs malentendants.

REMARQUES:

• Si vous utilisez une antenne intérieure ou si la réception est mauvaise, le texte ou les sous-titres peuvent ne pas apparaître. Dans ce cas, changez la position de l'antenne ou utilisez une antenne extérieure.

•

Quand le décodeur de sous-titrage est mis en circuit, il y aura un court délai avant que le texte/sous-titre apparaisse à l'écran.

• Les émissions télévisées avec sous-titrage peuvent être enregistrées et reproduites par un

magnétoscope, le texte/sous-titre intact. Le texte/ sous-titre disparaît pendant les modes de repérage, rebobinage et pause, ou si l'alignement du magnétoscope est mal réglé.

• Les sous-titres apparaissent seulement dans les endroits où ce service est offert.

• Si l’écran d’appel est en service, les sous-titres n’apparaissent pas.

Cette touche permet de retourner au canal que vous regardiez précédemment. Pressez-la de nouveau pour retourner au canal actuel.

Pressez et relâchez la touche CHANNEL Dessus ou Bas. L'appareil passe automatiquement au prochain canal mis en mémoire. Pressez et gardez la touche enfoncée pour changer plus rapidement de canal. Pour obtenir de bons résultats, avant de choisir les canaux, ils doivent être mis dans la mémoire du téléviseur.

SELECTION TV/CATV

Sous-titres (CAPTIONS): Ce mode fait afficher le texte

à l'écran en anglais ou en une autre langue (suivant le réglage du sélecteur CH.1 ou 2). En général, les émissions à sous-titres anglais sont transmises au canal 1 et les émissions à sous-titres en une autre langue sont transmises au canal 2. Texte (TEXT): En général, ce mode fait apparaître tout un texte à l'écran, affichant un horaire des émissions ou d'autres informations. Quand vous choisissez le mode de sous-titrage, il demeure activé jusqu'à ce que vous le changiez, même si vous changez de canal. Si le signal de sous-titrage est perdu, à cause d'une annonce télévisée ou une interruption de transmission, les sous-titres apparaîtront de nouveau quand le signal est reçu de nouveau. Quand vous changez de canal, les sous-titres apparaissent environ 10 secondes plus tard. Les sous-titres apparaissent en général au bas de l'écran, pour avoir le moins d'interférence possible avec l'image. Lorsqu'il s'agit du journal télévisé, trois lignes du texte de nouvelles apparaissent normalement à l'écran. La plupart des autres émissions offrent deux ou trois lignes de sous-titres près de la personne qui parle afin que le téléspectateur puisse suivre facilement le dialogue. Les mots soulignés ou en italique indiquent des titres, des mots en langue étrangère ou des mots qui doivent être accentués. Les mots chantés sont en général entourés de notes musicales. Dans les guides d'émissions télévisées, celles à soustitrage sont en général suivies du symbole "CC" (CLOSED CAPTIONED).

• Quand vous choisissez le mode à sous-titrage, les sous-titres apparaissent à l'écran environ 10 secondes plus tard.

• Si aucun signal de sous-titrage n'est reçu, les soustitres n'apparaissent pas mais le téléviseur reste en mode de sous-titrage.

• Des fautes d'orthographe ou des caractères insolites apparaissent parfois dans les sous-titres. C'est tout à fait normal, surtout si l'émission est en direct, car alors les sous-titres sont créés en direct et il n'y a pas assez de temps pour les vérifier.

• En mode de sous-titrage, l'affichage du volume ou de la mise en sourdine peut ne pas être visible ou peut interférer avec les sous-titres.

• Certains systèmes de câblodistribution ou de protection anticopie peuvent interférer avec le sous-titrage.

• Si vous utilisez une antenne intérieure ou si la réception est mauvaise, le texte ou sous-titre peut ne pas apparaître ou apparaître avec des fautes ou des caractères insolites. Dans ce cas, changez la position de l'antenne ou utilisez une antenne extérieure.

Les canaux disponibles dans votre région peuvent être programmés dans la mémoire de ce téléviseur/

magnétoscope. Ce qui permet de balayer tous les canaux mémorisés, en ordre croissant/décroissant, à partir du canal présent, ou de sauter les canaux non désirés. A vant de choisir les canaux, ils doivent avoir été mis en mémoire. En plus de recevoir les canaux VHF et UHF , votre nouvel appareil peut aussi capter jusqu'à 113 canaux câblodistribués. Pour utiliser ce téléviseur avec une antenne, réglez l'option de menu TV/CATV à la position "TV". Lorsque l'appareil est expédié de l'usine, cette option est réglée à la position "CATV".

COULEUR (COLOR)

Pressez la touche ENTER jusqu'à ce que le mot "COLOR" apparaisse à l'écran, puis pressez la touche SET/TRACKING + ou – pour régler l'intensité des couleurs. Un réglage optimal est obtenu quand les couleurs paraissent normales en intensité et en brillance.

TEINTE (TINT)

Pressez la touche ENTER jusqu'à ce que le mot "TINT" apparaisse à l'écran, puis pressez la touche SET/ TRACKING + ou – pour régler la teinte. Cela détermine si les couleurs sont reproduites fidèlement. Pour obtenir les meilleurs résultats, réglez la teinte en vous basant sur les tons du visage des personnes à l'écran.

NETTETE (SHARPNESS)

Pressez la touche ENTER jusqu'à ce que le mot "SHARPNESS" apparaisse à l'écran, puis pressez la touche SET/TRACKING + ou – pour régler la netteté de l'image.

REMISE A L'ETAT INITIAL

Pressez la touche CANCEL pendant le réglage de l'image pour retourner les réglages d'image à leurs niveaux prédéterminés à l'usine.

REMARQUE:

L'affichage disparaît de l'écran six secondes après la fin du réglage ou si vous pressez deux fois la touche MENU. Il est possible de régler l'image seulement quand le réglage est affiché à l'écran.

REGLAGE DES COMMANDES AVEC AFFICHAGE A L'ECRAN

LUMINOSITE (BRIGHTNESS)

Pressez la touche ENTER jusqu'à ce que le mot "BRIGHTNESS" apparaisse à l'écran, puis pressez la touche SET/TRACKING + ou – pour régler la luminosité. Quand la touche SET/TRACKING + est pressée, les parties sombres de l'image deviennent plus claires.

CONTRASTE (CONTRAST)

Pressez la touche ENTER jusqu'à ce que le mot "CONTRAST" apparaisse à l'écran, puis pressez la touche SET/ TRACKING + ou – pour régler le contraste. L'image devient plus nette en plein jour (quand il fait clair) quand on augmente le contraste. Dans la soirée (lorsqu'il y a moins de lumière), l'image devient plus nette quand on réduit le contraste.

REMARQUE: Le contraste a été réglé au maximum à l'usine.

Les commandes de réglage de l'image ont été préréglées à l'usine, mais vous pouvez les régler individuellement comme suit.

Lors de la lecture d'une bande, le système d'alignement numérique règle automatiquement l'alignement afin d'obtenir la meilleure image possible. Si des barres parasites apparaissent sur l'image pendant la lecture, réglez manuellement l'alignement.

• Pressez la touche SET/TRACKING + ou – pour obtenir la meilleure image possible. "MANUAL TR." apparaît à l'écran pendant 4 secondes. Pour continuer l'alignement automatique, pressez la touche AUTO TRACKING. "AUTO TR." apparaît à l'écran pendant 4 secondes.

Quand vous êtes au mode d'arrêt, pressez la touche de rebobinage (REW) ou d’avance rapide (F.FWD).

INSERTION

Si l'appareil rebobine automatiquement la bande jusqu'à son début (rebobinage automatique), la cassette est éjectée automatiquement. (voyez la REMARQUE à la page 20.)

Si vous voulez conserver intacte un enregistrement en particulier, cassez la languette de protection de la cassette pour éviter de l'effacer par mégarde.

INSERTION ET RETRAITE DE LA CASSETTE VIDEO

Pressez délicatement le centre de la cassette jusqu'à ce qu'elle soit chargée automatiquement dans le compartiment.

Quand vous insérez dans le compartiment une cassette sans languette de protection, la lecture commence immédiatement.

Insérez la cassette avec le côté portant l'étiquette vous faisant face.Il est impossible d'insérer la cassette à l'envers.

LECTURE AUTOMATIQUE

Pressez deux fois la touche d'arrêt/ éjection (STOP/EJECT). La

première pression arrête le défilement de la bande, la seconde fait éjecter la cassette.

REMARQUES:

• Retirez la cassette du compartiment quand elle n'est pas utilisée.

• La cassette peut être éjectée du compartiment même si l'appareil est hors circuit (OFF).

POUR L'ENREGISTRER DE NOUVEAU

Couvrez l'orifice avec un morceau de ruban adhésif en veillant à ce que le ruban ne dépasse pas les bords de la cassette.

POUR COMMENCER LA LECTURE

Pour la lecture d'une bande pré-enregistrée.

Insérez une cassette pré- enregistrée dans le compartiment. (Si vous insérez une cassette sans la languette de protection, la lecture commence immédiatement.) Pressez la touche de lecture (PLAY). La lecture commence. "

LECTURE

REMARQUE: Ce téléviseur/magnétoscope choisit

automatiquement la vitesse de la bande SP, LP ou SLP.

RECHERCHE D'IMAGE EN MARCHE AVANT/ARRIERE

Si vous voulez visionner l'image pendant le mode de rebobinage ou d'avance rapide REW ou FWD, et conservezla enfoncée. L'image, pendant la recherche visuelle arrière ou avant apparaîtra à l'écran. Relâchez la touche pour retourner au mode de rebobinage ou d’avance rapide.

POUR REGARDER UNE EMISSION TELEVISEE

Pressez la touche TV MONI. pendant le mode de lecture. La bande continue à défiler, mais l'image à l'écran est celle de l'émission de télévision diffusée par le canal syntonisé par le magnétoscope. Relâchez la touche pour revenir à l'image de lecture.

VITESSES DE RECHERCHE

Pressez la touche SKIP SEARCH pendant le mode de lecture. L'appareil avance rapidement sur une portion équivalente à 30 secondes de lecture (par exemple pour éviter une annonce indésirée) chaque fois que vous pressez la touche SKIP SEARCH (six pressions au maximum) puis continue la lecture normale une fois que la portion de bande désirée a été évitée.

RECHERCHE PAR EVITEMENT

Pressez la touche PAUSE/STILL pendant la lecture. Pressez la touche PLAY ou la touche PAUSE/STILL pour reprendre la lecture normale.

ARRÊT SUR IMAGE

REMARQUES:

• Le son est coupé pendant la recherche rapide, et l'arrêt sur image.

• En mode de recherche repide et d'image fixe, l'image est légèrement parasitée.

• Pour éviter d'endommager la bande, le magnétoscope passe automatiquement au mode de la lecture s'il reste plus de 5 minutes au mode d'arrêt sur image ou de la recherche visuelle.

POUR VISIONNER SANS ARRET LA MEME BANDE

REMARQUE:

Pour annuler le mode de répétition, suivez les étapes 1 et 2 ci-dessus, puis pressez la touche ENTER pour choisir la position "OFF" (mode désactivé). Pressez la touche MENU pour revenir au visionnement de la télévision. La fonction de lecture répétée est annulée automatiquement quand l'appareil est mis hors tension ou quand la cassette est éjectée.

ENREGISTREMENT D'UNE ÉMISSION DE TÉLÉVISION

REMARQUES:

Si l'appareil est mis hors circuit pendant l'enregistrement, le téléviseur s'éteint mais le magnétoscope continue à enregistrer. Pour arrêter l'enregistrement et éteindre le magnétoscope, pressez la touche "STOP". Il est impossible de changer de canal pendant l'enregistrement.

Ce téléviseur/magnétoscope rebobine automatique la bande quand elle arrive au bout de sa course (sauf pendant l'enregistrement OTR ou programmé). Il

éjecte aussi la cassette.

• Si la languette de protection contre les

enregistrements est retirée, la cassette est éjectée quand la touche REC/OTR est pressée pour l’enregistrement.

REMARQUES:

• Si vous essayez de programmer un enregistrement sans qu'il y ait une cassette dans l'appareil ou s'il y a une cassette sans languette de protection, l'enregistrement par minuterie est impossible. Sivous insérez une cassette sans languette de protection, la cassette sera éjectée du compartiment.

• Pour enregistrer un signal télévisé provenant d'un autre appareil, appuyez répétitivement sur la touche SET/ TRACKING + ou – jusqu’à ce que "L" apparaisse au réglage du canal à l’étape 5.

La composante magnétoscope ne peut pas être utilisée pendant que l’indicateur T-REC est allumé. Si vous souhaitez utiliser le magnétoscope, pressez la touche TIMER REC pour désactiver la minuterie.

Après une panne d'électricité ou un débranchement du cordon d'alimentation, tous les réglages d'enregistrement programmés et l'affichage de l'heure seront perdus lorsque l'électricité sera rétablie. Dans ce cas, reprogrammez l'horloge (voir page 12-13) et tous les enregistrements de la minuterie.

REMARQUES

• Il est possible d'effectuer des enregistrements quotidiens ou

hebdomadaires continuellement jusqu'à ce que ces programmations soient annulées ou que la bande arrive au bout de sa course.

• Le système de rebobinage automatique ne fonctionne pas en

mode d'enregistrement par minuterie.

• Vous pouvez corriger ou annuler le réglage du programme à

l'étape de confirmation du programme.

Le compteur chronologique montre à l'écran la durée de défilement de la bande en heures, minutes et secondes. Ainsi, vous pouvez facilement déterminer la durée écoulée et la durée restante de la bande.

POUR VOIR L'INDICATION DU COMPTEUR

La fonction de remise à zéro vous permet de retourner rapidement au point de départ de l’enregistrement ou de la lecture. Le point de départ peut être placé à n’importe quel point de la bande en pressant la touche COUNTER RESET et la touche ZERO RETURN.

REMARQUES:

• Pour obtenir de meilleurs résultats, il est recommandé

de régler le sélecteur de vitesse (SPEED) de cet appareil à la position "SP".

• L'enregistrement non autorisé d'émissions de

télévision, de films, de bandes vidéo ou d'autres matériaux protégés par la loi relative à la protection des droits d'auteur peut constituer une infraction à ladite loi.

Si vous raccordez cet appareil à un autre magnétoscope ou à un caméscope, vous pouvez copier une bande pré-enregistrée au préalable. Effectuez tous les raccordements avant de mettre les appareils en circuit.

IMAGE-FANTOME

Les images-fantômes sont souvent causées par le signal télévisé qui suit deux voies, une, la directe, et l'autre, qui est réfléchie par des édifices, collines ou autres obstacles sur son chemin. Il est souvent possible d'améliorer la réception en changeant la direction ou la position de l'antenne.

ALLUMAGE

Des taches noires ou des rayures horizontales peuvent apparaître ou l'image peut trembler ou dériver. En général, ces interférences sont causées par le système d'allumage de véhicules, des lampes au néon, des perceuses électriques ou d'autres appareils électriques.

N'ESSAYEZ P AS DE NETTOYER LES TETES VIDEO OU DE REPARER L'APP AREIL EN OUVRANT LE P ANNEAU SUPERIEUR.

REMARQUES:

• Les têtes vidéo s'usent éventuellement et doivent être remplacées quand elles ne donnent plus satis-

faction.

• Pour éviter l'encrassement des têtes vidéo, utilisez seulement des vidéocassettes VHS de bonne qualité. Jetez les vidéocassettes usées.

Il est possible de remédier à la plupart des interférences à la télévision en réglant la hauteur et en changeant la

position de l'antenne VHF/UHF . Pour obtenir les meilleurs résultats, il est recommandé d'utiliser une antenne extérieure. La plupart des interférences sont expliquées ci-dessous. Si un de ces symptômes apparaît quand le téléviseur est raccordé au système de câblodistribution, le problème peut être causé par votre compagnie de câblodistribution locale.

PROBLEMES DE RECEPTION

IMAGE ENNEIGEE

Si votre récepteur se trouve dans les régions limitrophes d'une station de télévision où le signal est faible, l'image peut être criblée de petits points. Dans ce cas, il est peut-être nécessaire d'utiliser une antenne extérieure pour obtenir une bonne réception.

INTERFERENCE DE LA FREQUENCE RADIO

Ce genre d'interférence produit des parasites en forme d'ondulations ou de rayures diagonales, et dans certains cas, une perte de contraste de l'image. Il est possible d'améliorer l'image en changeant la direction et la position de l'antenne ou en installant un filtre RFI.

VARIATION DE LA GRANDEUR DE L'IMAGE

Une légère variation de la grandeur de l'image est normale lors du réglage de la commande de contraste ou de luminosité.

Pour éviter les risques d'incendie ou de choc électrique, déconnectez l'appareil de la source du CA avant de le nettoyer. Comme pour nettoyer tout meuble, essuyez le boîtier avec un linge doux humecté d'eau légèrement savonneuse. Faites attention en nettoyant ou en essuyant les pièces en plastique.

NETTOYAGE DES TETES VIDEO

Les têtes vidéo sont les moyens par lesquels le magnétoscope peut reproduire l'image. Avec le temps, il est possible, quoique peu probable, qu'elles s'encrassent. Alors, il n'y a pas d'image à la lecture. Et cet état de fait est confirmé si, à la lecture d'une bonne cassette, le son est bon mais il n'y a pas d'image ou l'image est extrêmement neigeuse. Dans ce cas, faites vérifier l'appareil par un réparateur qualifié.

NETTOYAGE DES TÊTES VIDÉO

Les têtes vidéo doivent être nettoyées si la lecture devient médiocre. Le fait de reproduire des bandes endommagées ou de mauvaise qualité peut causer ce problème. Pour nettoyer les têtes, utilisez une cassette spéciale à liquide chimique non abrasif conçue spécialement à cette fin ou faites-les nettoyer par un technicien qualifié. Si la cassette nettoyante n’améliore pas la situation, utilisez-la plusieurs fois avant de faire appel à un centre de service.
