AUDIO SETUP DIGITAL OUT: O
FF: Select to disable the Digital output.
SPDIF/RAW or PCM: Switches the digital audio section of
the dec ode r/ou tpu t b etw een bits trea m (Ra w) and uncompressed stereo digital out (PCM). The bitstream (Raw) must be selected to enable surround sound (Dolby digital) to be sent to an external decoder via the audio digital output. If only a stereo speaker system is to be used then it is only necessary to set this option to PCM, then only two channels of information are decoded and sent to the stereo audio outputs (and the coaxial/optical digital audio output).
DOWNMIX:
This unit has the ability to send programming with any number of discrete audio channels up to 5.1 to any viewer- regardless of how many speakers they might have. Reproducing 5
.1 c hannels of audio through a lesser numb er of speakers r equires a p rocess called downmixing. Simply put, downmixing combines the Left, Right, Center, Left surround, and R
ight surround channels in a somewhat logical manner to drive stereo or mono speakers.

O/RO: Select to hear the sound in Stereo downmix mode. LT/RT: Select to hearthe sound in theatrical downmix mode.
CUSTOM SETUP STYLE: Select the desired background of the OSD.
ANGLE MARK: Select ON to turn the angle marks ON and
OFF to turn them off.Anglemarks are not available on all DVDs.
DEFAULT: Select this option to reset all the preferences to their original factory set tings. Thi s is useful to reset the NTSC System.

TO OBTAINA CLEAR PICTURE:
The DVD playeris ahigh technology, precision device. If theoptical pick-uplens and disc drive parts are dirtyor worndown, the picture quality becomes poor.To obtain a clear picture,we recommend regular inspectionand maintenance (cleaning or partsreplacement) every1,000 hours of use dependingon theoperating environment. NOTES ON MOISTURECONDENSATION: Moisture condensation damagesthe DVD player. Pleaseread the following carefully.
• Moisture condensation occurs, forexample, when you poura colddrink into a glass on a warm day.Drops ofwater form on the outsideof the glass. Inthe sameway, moisture may condense on theoptical pick-uplens inside this unit, one ofthe mostcrucial internal parts of the DVD player.
Moisture condensation occursduring the following cases:
• When you bring theDVD playerdirectly from a cold place toa warmplace.
• When you use theDVD playerin a room where you just turnedon theheater, or a place where the cold windfrom theair conditioner directly hits the unit.
• In summer,when youuse the DVD player in a hot and humidplace justafter you moved the unit from anair conditionedroom.
• When you use theDVD playerin a humid place.
Do not usethe DVD player when moisture condensation may occur.
• If you use theDVD playerin such a situation, it may damage discsand internalparts. Remove the disc, connectthe powercord of the DVD player to thewall outlet,turn on the DVD player and leave it“ON” fortwo or three hours. Aftertwo or three hours,the DVDplayer will have warmed up and evaporatedany moisture.Keep the DVD player connected tothe walloutlet and moisture condensation will seldomoccur.

TO ACCESS THE MAIN MENUS:
The setup menu lets you customize the DVD player by allowing you to select various language preferences, turn screen saver on and off and more. B
elow, find the menu, and then find the corresponding page that describes the features of the selected menu option. With no disc in the tray, enter the SETUP MENU by pressing the SETUP button. Use the Navigation (,®,π,) buttons to navigate through the menus/screens and press the OK button to select the highlighted option. After changing an option, press the OK button. To Exit the SETUP MENU, press the SETUP button.
LANGUAGE SETUP OSD: Select the desired language (English, French,
Spanish, German, Italian, or Portuguese) for the On­Screen displayto display text. Notethat the DVD must have thelanguage included in orderto display it.
MENU: Sele ct the language the MENU will be in (En gli sh, Fr enc h, Ger man, I tali an, Sp ani sh, Portug uese, or Others). The DVD’s DI SC ME NU must be made in the select ed language, otherwise the default language of the DVD will be shown.
AUDIO: Select the language the DVD will be played back in (English, French, German, Italian, S panish, Portuguese, or Others). The DVD must b e recorded in the sele cted language, otherwise the default language of the DVD will be played.
SUBTITLE: Select the language the Subtitle (OSD) will be in (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Others or Off). The DVD must be recorded in the selected language, otherwise the default language of the DVD will be shown.
SCREEN SETUP TV TYPE: Your can choose a display that affects how
a disc’s content appears on your TV screen. 4:3 PS: rep rod uce s a 4 :3 pic ture wi th some distortion. 4:3 LB Letterbox: gives best reproduction of pictures recorded in this format (i.e., with horizontal bands at the top and bottom of the screen) 16:9 Widescree n: repro duces 16: 9 format films in full, on a 16:9 screen.
SCREEN SAVER: When this option is set to ON, the screen saver will come on when the unit stops or the image is paused for approximately ten minutes. When this option is OFF,the screen saver will not come on
TV SYSTE M (AV Out only ): Select PAL when outputting to a PAL TV. Se lect NTSC when using a NTSC TV.In the USA, the standard is NTSC. Select AUTO to auto select.
P/N Button: This option can also be changed by pressing the P/N button repeatedly.
VIDEO OUTPUT:Select the desired option (CVBS-Video, CVBS+YUV or YUV P-SCAN)
when a TV is connected to the Component Video Out jacks.
Video Button : This function can be changed by pressing VIDEO button repeatedly.

PICTURE CD
I
nsert a CD with picture files on it. Note: The time taken for the contents of the disc to be displayed varies according to the memory size and number of pictures actually on the disc. If nothing is displayed after a few minutes, it is likely that certain files are too large. In this case, reduce the f
iles resolution to less than 5 megapixels and try again.
Picture CD Basic Operation
• Press the POWER button to turn on the unit; the On/Standby indicator will turn
green.
If using CD, press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the disc tray; “OPEN” will appear on the screen. Insert a picture disc with the label side facing up on the disc t
ray. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to close the disc tray. “LOADING” will appear
on the TV screen.
• After loading a picture CD, the pictures will automatically show as a slideshow on the
screen. (If playback does not start automatically, press the PLAY/PAUSE (®p) b
utton to start playback.) Press the Skip (n) or (o) button to select the next or previous picture. After the slideshow is done, it will go to thumbnail view. You can p
ress the STOP (X) button to stop the slideshow before it is finished; then the thumbnail view will appear. In thumbnail view, you can press the Navigation (,®,π,) button to select the desired picture or press the Skip (n) or (o) button to go to the next/previous page. Select the desired picture and then press the OK b
utton to view it.
To select a photo: press the Number buttons corresponding to the picture that you would like to view (i.e. the 12th picture, press "+10", "2").
To pause the photo slideshow: press the PLAY/PAUSE (®p) button. T
o resume playback: press the PLAY/PAUSE (®p) button.
To stop playback of the picture CD: press the STOP (X) button. T
o rotate a picture during playback: you can rotate the picture on-screen using the
Navigation (,®,π,) buttons during slideshow playback. To rotate on the thumbnail view, select ROTATE,select a picture then press the OK button. Press the PLAY/PAUSE(®p) button to rotate the picture clockwise 90 degree. Then select R
ESET to reset the picture or RETURN.

NSTALLING THE REMOTE CONTROL’S BATTERY
LOCATION OF CONTROLS
1. Connect the Left and Right audio cables to the Left and Right AUDIO OUT jacks on the rear of the DVD player. Connect the other ends to the Left and Right IN jacks on the TV. Y
ou can also use the Coaxial Digital Out as described below.

. Connect the video cable (Select one of the following connections for video.)
(GOOD) BASIC: Connect the video cableto the VIDEO OUT jack on the rear of the DVD player. Connect the other end to the VIDEO IN jack on the TV. (BETTER) S-VIDEO (not shown): Connect the S-Video cable to the S-VIDEO jack on the rear of the DVD player. Connect the other end to the S-VIDEO jack on the TV.
(BEST) PROGRESSIVE (Y, PB, PR) VIDEO OUT:
Use these jacks to connect to a TV with progressive video input jacks, press the VIDEO button repeatedly to select the compatible resolution of the TV. Progressive scan is a video scanning system t
hat displays all lines in a frame in one pass, as opposed to the traditional system, inte rlaced scan. This connection provides optimum quality. To ensure maximum picture quality, use three video-grade cables for connections. Note that it is essential to m
atch the color-coded connectors with a compatible TV.

Connecting the DVD to a Home Theater System
Place the subwoofer, front, rear and center speakers in locations as shown/described here. After correctly positioning the speakers, perform the Tone Test on the AVAmplifier and adjust the volume controls until the desired sound is achieved. For best results, sit in the viewing position and have someone adjust the volumes for you; this will enable you to set the optimal levels.

The battery compartment is located on the rear of the remote control.
• Remove the battery compartment door by pressing in on the tab and removing the door.
• Insert two (2) AAA size batteries into the battery compartment as shown tothe right. Be sure toobserve the polarity markings which are engraved inside the battery compartment. If the batteries are inserted incorrectly, the remote control will not operate.
• Replace the battery compartment door.

NOTES FOR CONNECTING TO A TV:
• If your TV has a Component Video input, connect the DVD player with the component cable for best results, otherwise use the S-Video or Video OUT jack on the DVD player.
• Set the TV’s TV/VIDEO button or switch to the VIDEO setting.
• When connecting the DVD, refer to the owner’s manuals for the TV and the audio system, as well as this manual.
• When connecting, make sure the power is off and all units are unplugged before making any connections.
• Connect the DVD player to your TV directly. If you connect the DVD player through a VCR, the playback picture will be distorted because DVD video discs are copy protected.
• If using a TV with a blue screen option, turn the option off on the TV for best results.
• If you place the DVD player near a tuner, the radio broadcast sound might be distorted. In this case, move the DVD player away from the tuner.
BASIC PLAYBACK OPTIONS

VD/CD BASIC OPERATION
1. Plug the power cord into the outlet once the DVD player is connected to your TV.
2. Turnon the TV and tune to its Video Input Channel, if necessary.
3. Press the POWER button to turn on the unit; the On/Standby indicator will turn green.
4. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the disc tray. Insert a disc with the label side f
acing up on the disc tray. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button again to close the tray;
playback will start automatically.
5. If the Menu appears, use the Navigation (, ®, π, ) buttons to select the desired option and press the OK button to select it.
6. To stop playback, press the STOP (X) button. Because the unit will remember where you stopped (not applicable in CD mode), simply press the PLAY/PAUSE ®p button to resume playback where you left off (resuming playback). If the STOP (X) button is pressed twice, the unit will stop completely. If the player is left in Stop/Pause mode for more than ten minutes without any user interaction, the screen saver will activate if the Screen Saver menu option is set to ON. There is no resume function when playing CDs.
SEARCH: During pl ayback, press the Sea rch ®® or √√ b utton to move the disc forward or backward at double (x2) speed to locate a specific section. Repeatedly press and the speed will increase to x4, x8, x16, x32 and resume normal playback. The disc will moveforward or backward at high speed until you press the PLAY/PAUSE ®p button; normal playback will resume at that point.
PAUSE: Press the PLAY/PAUSE®p button while in the Play mode to pause the picture. To resume normal playback, press the PLAY/PAUSE ®p button.
SKIP: Pr ess t he Sk ip (n ) but ton t o adv ance the disc to the beginnin g of the nex t chapter/track. Press the Skip (O) button to move the disc to the beginning of the previous chapter/track.
ZOOM: Press the SLOW/ZOOM button once during Normal or Still playback modes, and the unit will zoom x2. Press once more and the unit will zoom x4. Use the Navigation (,®,π,) buttons to m ove the image on the TV screen. Pre ss the SLOW/ZOOM button once more to cancel the zoom function. This is not available on all discs.
SLOW FORWARD: Press and hold the SLOW/ZOOM button to activate Slow motion. Repeatedly press and hold to move the DVD forward in slow motion speeds of 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1 /32 a nd re sume norma l pla yback. The sound w ill b e mut ed. Press the PLAY/PAUSE®p button to resume normal playback.
TITLE/CHAPTER/TIME SEARCH (DVD ONLY):
Press the GOTO button once. Press the Navigation (,®) buttons to select the title, then use the Number (0-9) buttons to sele ct the de sir ed title num ber. Then pre ss the OK b utt on; play bac k wil l start immediately. OR Press th e Navigation (,®) buttons t o select the chapter, then use the Number (0-9, +10) buttons to select the desired chapter number (i.e, for 12, press "+1 0", "2"). Then press the OK button; playback will start immediately. OR Press the GOTO button again, t hen press the Navigation (,®) b uttons to select the tim e, t hen u se th e N umb er (0 -9) but ton s t o s ele ct th e d esi red t ime (Hour/Minutes/Seconds). Then press the OK button; playback will start immediately.

MP3 is an audio file format which compresses recorded music. The main advantage of the mp3 format is the ability to store CD - quality music tracks on a personal computer in user-friendly, compressed files. Before inserting a disc, check that it is compatible with the player:
1. Press the POWER button to turn on the unit; the On/Standby indicator will turn green and open the disc tray by pressing the OPEN/CLOSE button.
2. Place the disc in the tray with the printed side facing up and close the tray.; playback will start automatically.
3. If you want to select a folder/track, then Press the STOP (X) button to stop playback. Select a folder using the Navigation (π, ) buttons, then press the OK button to see the folder’s contents. Select a track using the Navigation (π, ) buttons, then press the OK button to start playback.
4. To go back to the folder list, press the Navigation () button.
5. For Skip and Search functions, please refer to the basic playback options.
6. Enter the track/file using the number buttons to directly select and playback a file. (i.e. For the 12th track, press "+10", "2" buttons.)

Repeat Playback
While the disc is playing, press REPEAT button repeatedly to select a play mode: D
VD play modes: Chapter repeat, Title repeat, ALL, off CD play modes: Track repeat, All track repeat, off MP3 Mode: Track repeat, Folder repeat, All repeat, off
A-B Repeat
W
hile in the Playback mode, press the Repeat A-B button to define where you want the section to start. Press the RepeatA-B button again to define where you would like the section to end, the unit will then play the selected area continuously. Press the Repeat A-B button again to cancel A-B Repeat mode.
PROGRAM PLAYBACK
Select up to 20 Title/Chapters (or tracks for CD) to program play as follows:
1. Press the PROGRAM button; the program screen will appear. 2
. Select the desired program number (best to start with 1), then press the Navigation ®
button to select the Title column. Select the desired title number using the Navigation (π,) buttons, then press the OK button to select it.
3. The cursor will jump to the Chapter column. Select the desired chapter number using
t
he Navigation (π,) buttons, then press the OK button to select it.
4. You have now programmed the first program. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to set more
programs (up to 20). When finished, press the PLAY/PAUSE (®p)button to start playback.
ANGLE MARK: While in the Playback mode, press the ANGLE button; the total number of angles will appear on the screen. Repeatedly press the ANGLE button to select the desired angle; the angle will change in one to two seconds. This is not available on all discs.
AUDIO (DVD): Press the AUDIO button repeatedly to change the audio language. This feature is not available on all discs.
Note: This option is only available if the disc offers a number of languages or formats. MUTE: To temporarily mute the playback sound, press the MUTE button.
SUBTITLE MENU: Press the SUBTITLE menu button to select a subtitle language
and to turn the subtitle menu on/off if your subtitle feature is available on the disc.
TITLE MENU: To display the title menu if available on the disc, press the TITLE menu button. Then use the Navigation (,®,π,) buttons to select your desired option and press PLAY/PAUSE ®pbutton.
OSD BUTTON: Each press of the OSD button will display the elapsed time and remaining time of a playing disc. Each press of the OSD button will cycle through, depending on the playback mode as follows:

Compatible Discs
This DVD player is capable of playing the following types of discs: DVDs, DVD+/- R, DVD+/- RW, Audio CDs, CD/CD-R/RW with MP3 files and Kodak Picture CDs. Before you insert a disc in the player, make sure it is compatible. You can’t play the following types of discs: Laser Discs, CD-I, CD-ROM (computer discs), DVD-ROM or discs recorded using other broadcast standards (i.e. PAL or SECAM) or C
D-G discs.
NOTE: Some discs may note be compatible due to laser pickup, recording formats and s
oftware used. Some technologies and methods used for MP3 file recording on CD­R/RWs can prevent optimal playback of these files by degrading the sound quality and/or the ability for the player to read the file.
