Damit Sie den gewünschten Erfolg erzielen und recht lange Freude an Ihrem
MEDISANA Blutdruckmessgerät MTM haben, empfehlen wir Ihnen, die nach­stehenden Hinweise zum Ge brauch und zur Pflege sorgfältig zu lesen.

WARNUNG

Treffen Sie aufgrund einer Selbstmessung keine therapeutischen
Maßnahmen. Ändern Sie niemals die Dosierung eines vom Arzt
verordneten Medikaments!

• Herzrhythmusstörungen bzw. Arrhy th mien verursachen einen unregelmäßi­gen Puls. Dies kann bei Mess ungen mit oszillometrischen Blut druck mess ge ­räten zu Schwierig keiten bei der Er fas sung des korrekten Messwertes führen.

• Wenn Sie an Krank heiten leiden wie z.B. arterieller Ver schluss krank heit, hal­ten Sie bitte vor der Anwendung des Gerätes Rück sprache mit Ihrem Arzt.

• Das Gerät kann nicht zur Kontrolle der Herz frequenz eines Schritt machers
verwendet werden.

• Schwangere sollten die notwendigen Vorsichtsmaßnahmen und ihre indivi­duelle Belastbarkeit beachten, halten Sie ggf. Rücksprache mit Ihrem Arzt.

• Sollten während einer Messung Un an nehmlichkeiten wie z.B. Schmerz am
Ober arm oder andere Be schwerden auftreten, ergreifen Sie folgende Gegen ­maß nahmen: Be tä tigen Sie die START-Taste 2 , um eine sofortige Entlüf­tung der Man schette zu er reichen. Lösen Sie die Manschette und nehmen Sie
diese vom Ober arm ab. Bitte nehmen Sie Kon takt mit Ihrem Fachhändler auf
oder in for mieren Sie uns direkt.

• Menschen mit flacher Pulswelle sollten den Arm anheben und die Hand ca.
10 mal öffnen und schließen und dann erst messen. Durch diese Übung wird
erreicht, dass die Pulswelle und der Mess vorgang optimiert werden.

• Benutzen Sie das Gerät nur entsprechend seiner Bestimmung laut Ge­brauchsanweisung.

• Bei Zweck ent fremdung erlischt der Garantie anspruch.

• Sollte es in seltenen Fällen durch eine Fehl funktion passieren, dass die
Man schette während der Mes sung dauerhaft auf gepumpt bleibt, muss sie

sofort geöffnet werden.

• Das Gerät darf nicht im Umfeld von Geräten betrieben werden, die starke
elektrische Strahlung aussenden, wie zum Beispiel Radiosender. Dadurch

kann die Funktion beeinträchtigt werden.

• Kinder dürfen das Gerät nicht verwenden. Medizinprodukte sind kein Spiel­zeug!

• Im Falle von Störungen reparieren Sie das Gerät bitte nicht selbst, da dadurch
je glicher Garantie an spruch erlischt. Lassen Sie Repa ra turen nur von autori­sierten Service stellen durch führen.

Was ist
Blutdruck?

• Schützen Sie das Gerät vor Feuch tigkeit. Sollte dennoch einmal Flüssigkeit in
das Gerät eindringen, müssen die Batterien sofort entfernt und weitere
Anwen dun gen vermieden werden. Setzen Sie sich in diesem Fall mit Ihrem
Fach händler in Verbindung oder informieren Sie uns direkt. Wie Sie uns er­reichen können, steht auf der Adress seite.

Bitte prüfen Sie zunächst, ob das Gerät vollständig ist.
Zum Liefer umfang gehören:

• 1 MEDISANA Blutdruckmessgerät MTM

• 1 Manschette mit Luftschlauch • 1 USB-Kabel

• 4 Batterien (Typ AA, LR 6) 1,5V • 1 Software CD

• 1 Aufbewahrungstasche • 1 Gebrauchsanweisung

Verpackungen sind wiederverwendbar oder können dem Rohstoffkreislauf
zurückgeführt werden. Bitte entsorgen Sie nicht mehr benötigtes Ver­packungsmaterial ordnungsgemäß. Sollten Sie beim Auspacken einen Trans­portschaden bemerken, setzen Sie sich bitte sofort mit Ihrem Händler in Ver­bindung.

WARNUNG

Achten Sie darauf, dass die Verpackungsfolien nicht in die
Hände von Kindern gelangen. Es besteht Erstickungsgefahr!

Blutdruck ist der Druck, der bei jedem Herzschlag in den Gefäßen entsteht.
Wenn sich das Herz zusammenzieht (=Systole) und Blut in die Arterien pumpt,
führt das zu einem Druck anstieg. Dessen höchster Wert wird als systolischer
Druck bezeichnet und bei einer Blutdruck messung als erster Wert gemessen.
Wenn der Herzmuskel erschlafft, um neues Blut aufzunehmen, sinkt auch der
Druck in den Arterien. Sind die Gefäße entspannt, wird der zweite Wert – der
diastolische Druck – gemessen.

Das MTM ist ein Blut druckmessgerät, das für die Blutdruck messung am Ober­arm bestimmt ist. Die Messung erfolgt hier durch einen Mikro prozessor, der
über einen Drucksensor die Schwingungen auswertet, die beim Aufpumpen
und Ablassen der Blutdruckmanschette über die Arterie entstehen.

MEDISANA verfügt über mehrjährige Erfahrung auf dem Gebiet der Blut duck ­messung. Die hohe Ge nau ig keit des Messprinzips der MEDISANA-Geräte wird
von umfangreichen klinischen Studien, die nach strengen internationalen
Standards durchgeführt werden, belegt. Ein wichtiges Argu ment für die Blut­druckmessung zu Hause ist die Tatsache, dass die Messung in der gewohnten
Umge bung und unter ausgeruhten Bedin gungen durchgeführt wird. Beson ders
aussagekräftig ist der sogenannte „Basis wert“, der morgens direkt nach dem
Aufstehen, vor dem Frühstück gemessen wird.
Grundsätzlich sollten Sie möglichst immer zur gleichen Zeit und unter gleichen
Bedingungen Ihren Blut druck messen. Denn dann ist die Vergleich barkeit der
Ergebnisse ge währleistet und eine beginnende Bluthoch druck erkrankung kann
frühzeitig erkannt werden.

Bleibt Blut hochdruck lange unentdeckt, steigt das Risiko für weitere Herz­Kreislauf-Erkrankungen.

DESHALB UNSER TIPP:

Messen Sie Ihren Blutdruck täglich und regelmäßig, auch dann,
wenn Sie keine Beschwerden haben.

In der nachfolgenden Tabelle werden die Richtwerte für hohen und niedrigen
Blutdruck ohne Berücksichtigung des Alters angegeben. Diese Werte wurden
von der Weltgesund heits organisation (WHO) festgelegt.

WARNUNG

Zu niedriger Blutdruck stellt ebenso ein Gesundheitsrisiko dar
wie Bluthochdruck! Schwindelanfälle können zu gefährlichen
Situationen führen (z.B. auf Treppen oder im Straßenverkehr)!

Es gibt viele Faktoren, die den Blutdruck beeinflussen können. So wirken sich
schwere körperliche Arbeit, Angst, Stress oder die Tageszeit der Messung sehr
stark auf die gemessenen Werte aus. Die persönlichen Blutdruckwerte unter­liegen während des Tages und des Jahres großen Schwan kungen. Bei Hoch ­druck patienten sind diese Schwan kun gen besonders stark ausgeprägt. Nor­ ma l erweise ist der Blutdruck während körperlicher Anstrengung am höchsten
und während der Nacht im Schlaf am niedrigsten.

• Messen Sie Ihren Blutdruck mehrfach, speichern Sie die Ergebnisse und ver­gleichen Sie diese dann miteinander. Ziehen Sie keine Rück schlüsse aus
einem einzigen Ergebnis.

• Ihre Blutdruckwerte sollten immer von einem Arzt beurteilt werden, der auch
mit Ihrer medizinischen Vor geschichte vertraut ist. Wenn Sie das Gerät regel­mäßig benutzen und die Werte für Ihren Arzt aufzeichnen, sollten Sie auch
von Zeit zu Zeit Ihren Arzt über den Verlauf informieren.

• Bedenken Sie bei den Blut druck messungen, dass die täglichen Werte von
vielen Faktoren abhängen. So beeinflussen Rau chen, Alko hol genuss, Medi ka ­mente und kör per liche Arbeit die Messwerte in unterschiedlicher Weise.

• Messen Sie Ihren Blutdruck vor den Mahlzeiten.

• Bevor Sie Ihren Blutdruck messen, sollten Sie sich mindestens 5 Min. ausruhen.

• Wenn Ihnen der systolische oder der diastolische Wert der Messung trotz
korrekter Hand habung des Gerätes ungewöhnlich erscheinen (zu hoch oder
zu niedrig) und sich dies mehrmals wiederholt, dann informieren Sie Ihren
Arzt. Dies gilt auch, wenn in seltenen Fällen ein unregelmäßiger oder sehr
schwacher Puls keine Messungen ermöglicht.

Einlegen: Öffnen Sie das Batterie fach an der Geräteunterseite mit einem leich-

ten Druck gegen den Riegel in Pfeilrichtung und legen Sie die vier mitgeliefer­ten Batterien (Alkaline-Bat terien, Typ AA LR 6) ein. Ach ten Sie auf die Liege­richtung der Batterien (Ab bil dung im Batterie fach). Setzen Sie den Batterie­fachdeckel wieder auf und drüc ken Sie ihn an, so dass er hörbar einrastet.

Entnehmen: Erscheint das Batterie symbol auf dem Display, setzen Sie bitte
neue Bat te rien ein. Sollten die verbrauchten Batterien im Batterie fach etwas
klemmen, benutzen Sie einen spitzen Ge gen stand zum vorsichtigen Heraus ­hebeln, z.B. einen Kugel schreiber.

Beachten Sie bitte, dass Sie nach dem Einsetzen neuer Batterien das Datum und
die Uhrzeit neu einstellen müssen. Die bisherigen Messer gebnisse bleiben
gespeichert. Alternativ können Sie das Gerät auch mit einem Netzteil betreiben
(MEDISANA Art.–Nr. 51036), das Sie an den dafür vorgesehenen Anschluss

7 an der hinteren Geräteseite einstecken.

Das MTM bietet die Möglichkeit, die gemessenen Werte zwei unterschiedlichen
Speichern zuzuordnen. In jedem Speicher stehen 99 Plätze zur Verfügung.

Bei der Einzelmessung wird eine einmalige Blutdruckmessung vorgenommen
und ab gespeichert.
Das 3/MAM-Verfahren empfiehlt sich, wenn Sie unter stark schwankendem
Blutdruck leiden. Durch die 3 im Ab stand von 15 Sekunden aufeinanderfolgen­den Messungen werden stark abweichende Werte eleminiert. Bei gravierenden
Abwei chungen kann unter Umständen eine 4. Mess ung erfolgen.
Aus diesen drei Messungen wird ein gewichteter Mittelwert gebildet, ange­zeigt und im gewählten Speicher abgespeichert. Eine in dieser Art ausgeführ te
Messung wird mit im Speicher gekennzeichnet.
Durch das 3/MAM-Verfahren wird das Risiko einer Falschmessung deutlich
minimiert.

zur Uhrzeit. Um die angezeigten Werte zu ändern, betätigen Sie jeweils die
SET–Taste 4 .

Stecken Sie zuerst das freie Ende des Luftschlauches von der Oberarm man ­schette 1 in den dafür vorgesehenen Anschluss am Gerät 8 . Öffnen Sie die
Manschette zu einem Ring und streifen Sie diese über den unbekleideten
linken Oberarm oberhalb der Ellbogenbeuge. Achten Sie darauf, dass der Arm
bei eng anliegender Ober armbekleidung durch das Hoch krempeln des Ärmels
nicht abgeschnürt wird.
Beachten Sie bitte, dass der Man schet ten bügel niemals über der Arterie liegen
darf, da sonst die Blut druckwerte verfälscht werden können.
Der Schlauch der Manschette muss in der Mitte der Armbeuge liegen und in
Richtung Handgelenk zeigen. Die Manschette selbst darf in keiner Weise ver­dreht werden.
Schließen Sie die Druckmanschette so, dass sie eng anliegt, aber nicht ein­schnürt. Ziehen Sie dafür das durch den Man schettenbügel geführte Man ­schet tenende an und drücken Sie es auf den Klett ver schluss.

• Führen Sie die Messung im Sitzen durch.

• Entspannen Sie Ihren Arm und legen Sie ihn locker auf, z.B. auf einem Tisch.
Verhalten Sie sich während der Mes sung ruhig: Bewegen Sie sich nicht und
sprechen Sie nicht, da sich sonst die Messergebnisse verändern können.

a. Drücken Sie die START-Taste 2 .

• Alle Symbole des Displays 3 erscheinen für ca. zwei Sekun den.

• Anschließend pumpt sich die Man schette 1 auf. Dabei wird der steigende
Druck in Zahlen angezeigt.

• Wird die START-Taste 2 wäh rend des Aufpumpens ge drückt, unterbrechen
Sie den Auf pump vorgang. Das Gerät schaltet sich aus und die Luft entweicht
aus der Manschette.

b. Wenn das Aufpumpen beendet ist, wird der Messvorgang automatisch

gestartet, indem der aufgebaute Druck in der Manschette wieder abgelas­sen wird. Der im Display angezeigte Wert entspricht jeweils dem aktuellen
Druckwert in der Man schette.

Die Entlüftung erfolgt zunächst mit konstanter Geschwindigkeit. Wenn der
Puls zum ersten Mal ermittelt werden kann, wird die Entlüftung mit dem Herz­schlag synchronisiert, bis die Messung beendet ist. Dabei blinkt das Herz­Symbol . Die Messung ist beendet, sobald die Manschette schlag artig ent­lüftet wird und neben den Bezeichnungen SYS, DIA und PUL Werte angezeigt
werden. Dabei wird das Display des MTM beleuchtet.

Dieses Gerät verfügt über 2 separate Speicher mit einer Kapazität von jeweils
99 Speicherplätzen. Die Ergeb nisse werden automatisch in dem angewählten
Speicher abgelegt. Ist ein Speicher voll, so entfällt die jeweils älteste Messung.

Drücken Sie die SET-Taste 4 , um die gespeicherten Messergeb nisse abzu ­rufen. Zunächst wird ein mit einem “A” gekennzeichneter Mittel wert aller im
gewählten Speicher befindlichen Mess ungen angezeigt.
Nach einem weiteren Druck auf die SET-Taste 4 werden die einzelnen Mess­werte (Systole, Diastole, Puls und Datum/Uhrzeit im Wechsel) der zuletzt durch­geführten und gespeicherten Mes sung angezeigt. Bei der Anzeige wird das
Display 3 jeweils kurz beleuchtet. Das zeigt an, dass eine Messung im
3/MAM-Verfahren durchgeführt wurde.
Drücken Sie die SET-Taste 4 erneut, um in der Messreihe zurückzublättern.
Links unten im Display über dem Symbol MR erscheint die der Mes sung zu­geordnete Speicher num mer. Die Anzeige erfolgt immer absteigend. Wenn also
z.B. insgesamt sieben Ergebnisse gespeichert sind, erscheint zuerst das Er­gebnis Nr. 7 (die letzte, aktuellste Messung), dann das Ergeb nis Nr. 6 (die vor­letzte Mes sung) u.s.w..

Dem Gerät sind eine Software CD und ein USB-Kabel beigefügt, mit denen Sie
die Daten aus dem MEDISANA Blutdruckmessgerät MTM über die USB­Schnittstelle auf Ihren Com puter übertragen können.
Verbinden Sie das USB-Kabel mit der USB-Schnittstelle 6 an Ihrem Gerät auf
der einen Seite und der USB-Eingangsbuchse Ihres Computers auf der anderen
Seite. Das MTM zeigt bei korrekter Verbindung drei blinkende waagrechte
Striche im Display. Legen Sie die CD in Ihren Computer ein und führen Sie den
Installationsvorgang durch. Die Software ist selbsterklärend. Bei eingelegter CD
startet die Installationsroutine automatisch. Folgen Sie einfach den Anwei­sungen auf Ihrem Computer-Bildschirm. Im Fall von Problemen bietet die
Software umfangreiche Hilfedateien.

Die Auswertesoftware bietet die Möglichkeit, die gemessenen Werte grafisch
oder tabellarisch anzuzeigen.

Die Daten im angewählten Speicher können gelöscht werden, indem die SET-
Taste 4 für ca. 7 Sekunden gedrückt wird. Nach 7 Sekunden erscheint die
Anzeige “CL” im Display 3 , die signalisiert, dass alle Daten gelöscht wurden.

Das Gerät schaltet sich nach ca. 3 Min. selbst ab, wenn keine weitere Taste
gedrückt wurde oder kann mit der START-Taste 2 ausgeschaltet werden.
Die Uhrzeit wird permanent angezeigt. Durch einen kurzen Druck auf die
MODE-Taste 5 wird das Datum angezeigt, um dann wieder auf die Uhrzeit
zurückzuspringen.

Mögliche Gründe und Lösungen

ERR 1 Mit der systolischen Druckmessung wurde abgeschlossen.

Ursache: Es könnte die Verbindung zum Luftschlauch unterbrochen
sein oder es wurde kein Puls festgestellt.
Überprüfen Sie den Anschluss zwischen Oberarmmanschette und
Gerät.

ERR 2 Unphysiologische Druckimpulse wurden festgestellt.

Ursache: Der Arm wurde während der Messung bewegt.
Wiederholen Sie die Messung bei ruhiger Armhaltung.

ERR 3 Wenn der Druckaufbau in der Ober arm man schette zu lange dauert,

könnte die Oberarm manschette nicht richtig plat ziert sein oder die
Schlauch ver bindung ist nicht dicht.
Überprüfen Sie die Verbindungen und wiederholen Sie die Messung.

ERR 4 Der Unterschied zwischen systolischem und diastolischem Druck ist

überhöht.
Messen Sie den Blutdruck erneut genau entsprechend den Anwen ­dungs hin weisen und unter ruhigen Bedin g ungen. Falls die Fehlermel­dung bei erneuter Messung wieder auftritt, setzen Sie sich bitte mit
MEDISANA in Verbin dung.

ERR 5 Aufgrund unstabiler Bedingungen während der Messungen konnte

kein Mittelwert berechnet werden.
Wiederholen Sie die Messung bei ruhiger Armhaltung und sprechen Sie
nicht während der Messung.

• Entfernen Sie die Batterien, bevor Sie das Gerät reinigen.

• Verwenden Sie nie aggressive Reini gungsmittel oder starke Bür sten.

• Reinigen Sie das Gerät mit einem weichen Tuch, das Sie mit einer milden
Seifenlauge leicht befeuchten. In das Gerät darf kein Wasser eindringen.
Benutzen Sie das Gerät erst wieder, wenn es völlig trocken ist.

• Nehmen Sie die Batterien aus dem Gerät, wenn Sie es längere Zeit nicht
benutzen möchten. Es besteht sonst die Gefahr, dass die Batterien auslaufen.

• Setzen Sie das Gerät nicht der direkten Sonneneinstrahlung aus, schützen Sie
es vor Schmutz und Feuchtigkeit.

• Pumpen Sie nur dann Luft in die Man schette, wenn sie um den Ober arm
gelegt ist.

• Messtechnische Kontrolle:
Das Gerät ist vom Hersteller für die Dauer von zwei Jahren kalibriert. Die
messtechnische Kontrolle muss bei gewerblicher Nutzung spätestens alle
zwei Jahre erfolgen. Die Kontrolle ist kostenpflichtig und kann entweder
durch eine zuständige Behörde oder durch autorisierte War tungs dienste –
entsprechend der „Medi zin produkte-Betreiber Veror dnung“ – erfolgen.

Dieses Gerät darf nicht zusammen mit dem Hausmüll entsorgt werden.
Jeder Verbraucher ist verpflichtet, alle elektrischen oder elerktronischen
Geräte, egal, ob sie Schadstoffe enthalten oder nicht, bei einer Sammelstelle
seiner Stadt oder im Handel abzugeben, damit sie einer umweltschonenden
Entsorgung zugeführt werden können.

measurements! Never change the quantity of medication

• Irregularity of pulse or arrhythmia can lead to difficulties in recording a
correct reading when measurements are taken using oscillometric blood
pressure devices.

• If you should suffer from conditions such as arterial occlusive disease, please
consult your doctor before using the unit.

• The unit may not be used to check the heart rate of patients with a
pacemaker.

• Pregnant patients should take their own personal state of health into

• Should you experience discomfort or other complaints during measurement,
for example pain in the upper arm, please take the following action: Press the

their hand around 10 times before taking a reading. This exercise optimizes

Blood pressure is the pressure created in the blood vessels by each heart beat.
When the heart contracts (= systole) and pumps blood into the arteries, it
brings about a rise in pressure. The highest value is known as the systolic pres­sure and is the first value to be measured.
When the cardiac muscle relaxes to take in fresh blood, the pressure in the
arteries also falls. Once the arteries are relaxed, a second reading is taken – the
diastolic pressure.

The MTM is a blood pressure computer which is used to measure blood pres­sure at the upper arm. The measurement is carried out by a microprocessor,
which, via a pressure sensor, measures vibrations resulting from the inflation
and deflation of the cuff over the artery.

the fact that the readings are taken in familiar surroundings under relaxed
conditions. The most important reading is the socalled „baseline value“, the
one taken before breakfast, directly after getting up in the morning. As far as
it is possible, you should always try to take your blood pressure at the same
time and under the same conditions each day.
This ensures comparable results and helps in detecting the first signs of high
blood pressure. If high blood pressure remains undetected, it increases the risk
of further cardiovascular diseases.

THEREFORE WE RECOMMEND:

Take a blood pressure reading daily and on a regular basis,
even if you are experiencing no apparent complaints.

The following table shows the classification of high and low blood pressure,
without taking age into consideration. This blood pressure assessment scale
corresponds to the guidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

WARNING

Blood pressure that is too low represents just as great a health
risk as blood pressure that is too high! Fits of dizziness may lead
to dangerous situations arising (e.g. on stairs or in traffic)!

There are many factors that can influence blood pressure. Readings can be
affected by stress, fear, heavy physical exertion or the time of day at which they
are taken. Your personal blood pressure values are subject to considerable
fluctuation during the course of the day and the year. These fluctuations are
particularly pronounced in the case of patients suffering from hypertension.
Blood pressure is usually at its highest during physical exertion and at its lowest
at night when asleep.

• Measure your blood pressure several times, then record and compare the
results. Do not draw any conclusions from a single reading.

• Your blood pressure readings should always be evaluated by a doctor who is

also familiar with your personal medical history. When using the unit
regularly and recording the values for your doctor, you should visit the
doctor from time to time to keep him updated.

• When taking readings, remember that the daily values are influenced by
several factors. Smoking, consumption of alcohol, drugs and physical
exertion influence the measured values in various ways.

• Measure your blood pressure before meals.

• Before taking readings, allow yourself at least five minutes rest.

• If the systolic and diastolic readings seem unusual (too high or too low) on
several occasions, despite correct use of the unit, please inform your doctor.
This also applies to the rare occasions when an irregular or very weak pulse
prevents you from taking readings.

Insertion: Open the battery compartment on the underside of the unit by

exerting gentle pressure in the direction indicated by the arrow, and insert the
four batteries included with the unit (alkaline batteries, AA type, LR 6).
Remember to insert the batteries as indicated in the diagram in the battery
compartment. Replace the lid, pressing it until it snaps into place.

Removal: When the battery symbol appears in the display, please replace the
batteries with new ones. Should the used batteries be jammed in the
compartment, use a pointed instrument, such as a ballpoint pen, to carefully
prise them out.

After replacing batteries, remember that the time and date have to be
reentered. Previously stored results will be lost. Alternatively, you can use the
unit with a mains adaptor (MEDISANA Art.–No. 51036) This connects 7 to
the socket provided at the back of the unit.

BATTERY SAFETY INFORMATION

The MTM gives you the opportunity to assign readings to one of two user
memories, each of which provides 99 memory slots.
Press and hold the MODE button 5 for several seconds. The symbol for
memory 1 in the display 3 starts blinking. You can switch between memory
1 and memory 2 by pressing the SET button 4 .

With the MTM, you can choose between two measuring modes.

• Single reading

•

3 consecutive readings ( Measurement Average Mode = 3/MAM-mode )

In the case of a single reading, just one blood pressure reading is taken and sto­red.
The 3/MAM-mode is to be recommended if you suffer from severely fluc­tuating blood pressure. 3 successive readings are taken at 15 second intervals,
thus eliminating widely varying readings. In the case of serious deviations,
a 4th reading may be taken.
From these three measurements, a weighted average value is calculated, dis­played and stored in the selected memory. A reading taken in this way is indi­cated in the memory by an .
The 3/MAM procedure greatly minimizes the risk of an incorrect reading.

You can activate the 3/MAM-mode by holding down the MODE button 5
for several seconds. The symbol for the selected memory will start to flash.

flashing text “OFF” will appear in the display 3 . By pressing the

First attach the free end of the cuff’s 1 air hose to the designated connector

8 on the unit. Open up the cuff and slip it over the bare left upper arm just

above the elbow region. If wearing tight clothing, ensure that the circulation in
the arm is not impaired when rolling up the sleeve. Please ensure that the cuff
buckle is not positioned directly over the artery, as this can result in an
incorrect blood pressure reading.
The hose should run along the centre of the inner arm towards the palm of the
hand. Ensure that the cuff itself is not twisted in any way.

Fasten the pressure cuff in such a way that it fits tightly but does not constrict
the arm. Do this by passing the end through the buckle, pulling it tight and
attaching it to the Velcro fastener.

• Take readings while in a seated position.

• Relax your arm and rest it lightly on a surface such as a table. Relax during

the measuring process: do not move or talk, as this can affect the results.

a. Press the START button 2 .

• All the display 3 symbols will appear for approx. two seconds.

• The cuff 1 will then inflate. The increasing pressure is displayed numeri­cally.

• Pressing the START button 2 during inflation will stop the inflation process.

The unit switches off and the cuff deflates.

b. The measuring process begins automatically when inflation is complete by

releasing the pressure built up in the cuff. The display shows the current
pressure in the cuff.

Initially, deflation occurs at a constant speed. As soon as the pulse can be
determined, deflation is synchronised with the beating of the heart until the
measurement ends. During this time the heart symbol will flash.
The measurement is complete when the cuff suddenly deflates and readings
are displayed next to SYS, DIA and PUL. The MTM’s display will be illumi­nated briefly.

This unit features 2 separate memories, each with a capacity of 99 memory
slots. Results are automatically stored in the memory selected by the user.
When the memory is full, the oldest reading is always the first to be deleted.

Press the SET button 4 to display the stored readings. Initially, the average,
marked “A”, of all readings in the memory selected is displayed.
When the SET button 4 is pressed again, the individual readings (switching
between systolic, diastolic, pulse and date/time) of the last measurement
stored are displayed. The display 3 will be briefly illuminated while the rea­dings are shown. The symbol indicates that a reading was taken in 3/MAM­mode.
Press the SET button 4 again to move backwards through the stored readings.
At the bottom left of the display, above the symbol MR, the memory number
for the reading is displayed. The readings are displayed in reverse order. If, for
example, seven readings are stored in total, reading No. 7 (the last, most cur­rent measurement) will be displayed first, then reading No. 6 (the second last
measurement) etc.

The unit is supplied with a software CD and a USB cable which you can use to
transfer the data from the MEDISANA MTM blood pressure monitor via the
USB interface to your computer.
Connect one end of the USB cable to the USB interface 6 on the unit and
the other end to the USB input socket of your computer. The MTM displays
three flashing horizontal lines if connected correctly. Insert the CD into your
computer and carry out the installation process. The software guides you
through the process. Once you have inserted the CD, the installation routine
starts automatically. Simply follow the instructions on your computer monitor.
The software has extensive help files in case of problems.
The evaluation software makes it possible to display the measurements graphi­cally or as a table.

The data can be deleted from the memory selected by pressing and holding the

for about 7 seconds. After 7 seconds, the display

“CL” which indicates that all data have been deleted.

The unit switches off automatically after about 3 minutes, if no button is
pressed during this period. It can also be switched off by pressing the START
button 2 . The time is on permanent display. A short press of the

MODE

will bring up the date briefly in the display, then return to the time.

ERROR Error during measurement

If the display shows one of the following error messages, this means that the
unit was unable to accurately determine blood pressure.

Possible causes and solutions

ERR 1

Measurement of the systolic blood pressure was completed.
Either the connection with the hose has been interrupted or no pulse could be
determined.
Check the connections between the cuff and the main unit.

ERR 2

Non-physiological pressure has been detected.
Cause: the arm was moved during the measurement.
Repeat the measurement, keeping your arm still.

ERR 3

If the cuff takes too long to inflate, it is possible that the cuff is incorrectly
positioned or that the connection with the hose is not airtight.
Check the connections and repeat the measurement.

ERR 4

The difference between systolic and diastolic pressure is abnormally high.
Repeat the measurement under relaxed conditions, following the instructions
exactly.
If the same error occurs repeatedly with further readings, please contact
MEDISANA.

ERR 5

An average value could not be calculated due to unstable conditions while the
readings were being taken.
Repeat the measuring process, keeping your arm still and not speaking.

• Remove the batteries before cleaning the unit.

• Never use strong detergents or hard brushes.

• Clean the unit with a soft cloth, moistened with mild soapy water. Do not let
water enter the unit. After cleaning, only use the unit when completely dry.

• Remove the batteries from the unit if you do not wish to use it for an
extended period of time, otherwise there is a risk of battery leakage.

• Do not expose the unit to direct sunlight, and protect it from dust and

moisture.

• Only inflate the cuff when it is in position around the upper arm.

• Servicing and calibration:
The unit has been calibrated by the manufacturer for a period of two years’
use. In the case of commercial use, the unit must be serviced and recali­brated at least once every two years. This calibration will be charged for and
can be carried out by an appropriate authority or an authorised service
centre - in accordance with the regulations for users of medical equipment.

This product must not be disposed together with the domestic waste.
All users are obliged to hand in all electrical or electronic devices, regardless
of whether or not they contain toxic substances, at a municipal or commer­cial collection point so that they can be disposed of in an environmentally
acceptable manner.
Please remove the battery before disposing of the equipment. Do not dispose
of old batteries with your household waste, but dispose of them at a battery
collection station at a recycling site or in a shop.
Consult your municipal authority or your dealer for information about disposal.

Please contact your dealer or the service centre in case of a claim under the
warranty. If you have to send in the unit, please enclose a copy of your
receipt and state what the defect is.

The following warranty terms apply:

1. The warranty period for MEDISANA products is three years from date of
purchase. In case of a warranty claim, the date of purchase has to be
proven by means of the sales receipt or invoice.

2. Defects in material or workmanship will be removed free of charge
within the warranty period.

3. Repairs under warranty do not extend the warranty period either for the
unit or for the replacement parts.

4. The following is excluded under the warranty:

La tension désigne la pression formée dans les vaisseaux à chaque battement
du coeur. Lorsque le coeur se contracte ( = systole ) et pompe le sang dans
les artères la pression vasculaire augmente. La valeur maximale est appelée
pression systolique, cette valeur est la première qui est prise lors d’une mesure.
Lorsque le coeur se rétracte pour se remplir de sang, la pression diminue
également dans les artères. Lorsque les vaisseaux se relâchent, la deuxième
valeur, la pression diastolique, est mesurée.

Le MTM est un tensiomètre destiné à mesurer la tension au niveau du bras. La
mesure est ici réalisée par un microprocesseur qui, au moyen d'un capteur de
pression, analyse les variations générées dans les artères par le gonflage et
dégonflage du brassard.

MEDISANA dispose d'une longue expérience dans le domaine de la mesure de
la tension. La haute précision du principe de mesure des appareils MEDISANA
est vérifiée par de nombreuses études cliniques effectuées confor mément à
des standards internationaux stricts. Un argument de poids pour mesurer la
tension à la maison est le fait que la mesure est effectuée dans un environne­ment familier et en étant reposé. La « valeur de base », qui est mesurée le
matin directement au lever avant le petit déjeuner est la plus significative. Par
principe, il convient de toujours effectuer la mesure à la même heure et dans
des conditions identiques.
C’est le seul moyen d'obtenir des résultats comparables et ainsi de détecter à
temps tout début d'hypertension. Une hypertension restant longtemps in­connue augmente le risque d'autres maladies cardiovasculaires

Mesurez votre tension quotidiennement et régulièrement,
même si vous vous sentez bien.

AVERTISSEMENT

Une pression sanguine trop basse est aussi dangereuse pour la
santé qu’une pression trop élevée. Les vertiges peuvent entraîner
des situations dangereuses (par ex. dans les escaliers ou en voiture) !

La tension est influencée par de nombreux facteurs, ainsi, un travail
physiquement éprouvant, l'anxiété, le stress, mais aussi l'heure de la journée
peuvent fortement modifier les valeurs mesurées. Les valeurs de tension
personnelles varient également durant la journée et l'année. Les sujets
hypertendus sont particulièrement exposés à ces variations. Normalement, la
tension atteint sa valeur maximale durant des activités physiques intenses et sa
valeur minimale la nuit durant le sommeil.

• Effectuez plusieurs mesures de votre tension, mémorisez les résultats et
comparez-les ensuite. Ne tirez jamais de conclusions à partir d'un seul résultat.

• Les valeurs de votre pression sanguine doivent toujours être évaluées par un
médecin informé de vos antécédents médicaux. Si vous utilisez l'appareil
régulièrement et enregistrez les valeurs pour votre médecin, il faut aussi de
temps en temps informer votre médecin du déroulement.

• Lorsque vous mesurez votre tension, tenez compte que les valeurs
quotidiennes dépendent de nombreux facteurs. Ainsi, la consommation de
tabac, d'alcool, la prise de médicaments et les activités physiques influencent
les valeurs de mesure de manière différente.

• Mesurez votre tension avant les repas.

• Avant de mesurer votre tension, reposez-vous au moins 5 minutes.

• Si la valeur systolique ou diastolique mesurée semble anormale (trop forte ou

trop faible) malgré une manipulation correcte de l'appareil et que ceci se
reproduit plusieurs fois, veuillez informer votre médecin. Il en est de même
si parfois un pouls irrégulier ou trop faible ne permet pas d'effectuer la mesure.

Insérer: ouvrez le compartiment à pile sur la face inférieure de l'appareil en

appuyant légèrement contre le cran en direction de la flèche et insérez les
quatre piles fournies (piles alcalines, type AA LR 6). Vérifiez la polarité des piles
(représentée au fond du compartiment). Replacez le couvercle et poussez-le
jusqu'au déclic.

Changer: lorsque le symbole des piles est affiché sur l'écran, vous devez
changer les piles. Si les piles coincent un peu dans le compartiment, utilisez un
objet pointu pour les soulever prudemment, par ex. un stylo.

N'oubliez pas de régler la date et l'heure après le remplacement des piles. Les
résultats des mesures précédentes sont effacés. Il est également possible
d'utiliser l'appareil avec un bloc d'alimentation (MEDISANA N° d'art. 51036)
qui doit être branché au connecteur 7 prévu à cet effet sur la face arrière de
l'appareil.

INSTRUCTIONS DE SECURITE RELATIVES AUX PILES

Le modèle MTM permet d'affecter les valeurs mesurées à deux mémoires
différentes. Chaque mémoire dispose de 99 blocs mémoire.
Lorsque vous appuyez sur la touche MODE 5 durant plusieurs secondes,
le symbole de la mémoire 1 se met à clignoter à l’écran 3 . Pour basculer
entre les utilisateurs mémoire 1 et mémoire 2, appuyez sur la touche SET

3 mesures consécutives ( Measurement Average Mode = 3/MAM )

La mesure simple effectue une mesu-re de tension et mémorise le résultat. La
mesure 3/MAM est recommandée si vous souffrez de fortes variations de ten­sion. Les 3 mesures effectuées à 15 secondes d'intervalle permettent d'éliminer
les valeurs aberrantes. Si les écarts sont fortement accusés, une 4ème mesure
peut être exécutée.
La moyenne pondérée est calculée à partir de ces trois mesures, affichée et
mémorisée dans la mémoire sélectionnée. Ce type de mesure est signalisé par
un dans la mémoire. Le mode de mesure 3/MAM réduit considérablement
les risques de mesure erronée.

Pour activer le mode 3/MAM, enfoncer la touche

MODE 5

la touche MODE 5 , l'écran 3 affiche ensuite les symboles OFF et
clignotants. Appuyer sur la touche SET 4 pour activer oudésactiver le mode
3/MAM (OFF ou ON). Si le mode 3/MAM est activé, l'écran affiche .

Pour régler la date et l'heure, enfoncer la touche MODE 5 quelques secon­des. Le symbole de la mémoire sélec-tionnée clignote. Effectuer à présent deux
brèves pressions sur la touche MODE 5 . Les années sont ensuite affichées et
clignotent sur l'écran. Pour modifier les années, appuyer sur la touche SET

Insérez d'abord l'extrémité libre du tuyau d'air du brassard 1 dans le con­necteur respectif de l'appareil 8 . Ouvrez le brassard en forme de cercle et
passezle autour du bras nu au-dessus du coude. Veillez à ne pas bloquer la
circulation du bras lorsque vous retroussez votre manche.
Veillez également à ce que l'étrier du brassard ne soit jamais au-dessus des
artères, ceci pouvant fausser les valeurs de tension.
Le tuyau du brassage doit être au milieu du bras et dirigé vers le poignet. Le
brassard ne doit aucunement être tordu.
Serrez le brassard de manière à ce qu'il soit cintré, mais sans étrangler. Tirez
pour cela l'extrémité du brassard à travers l'étrier et appliquez-la sur la bande
velcro.

• Effectuer la mesure en position assise.

• Décontractez le bras et posez-le par exemple sur une table. Restez tranquille

durant la mesure: ne bougez pas et ne parlez pas, ceci pouvant fausser les
résultats de la mesure.

a. Appuyer sur la touche touche START 2 .

• Tous les symboles de l'écran 3 sont affichés pendant environ deux se­condes.

• Le brassard 1 commence à se gonfler. Le brassard se gonfle et la valeur
croissante de la pression et indiquée par des chiffres.

• Une pression sur la touche touche START 2 durant le gonflage arrête la
procédure de gonflage. L'appareil s'éteint et le brassard se dégonfle.

b. Lorsque le gonflage est fini, la mesure démarre automatiquement en

diminuant la pression du brassard. La valeur affichée sur l'écran indique la
valeur actuelle de la pression du brassard.

Le dégonflage s'effectue d'abord à une vitesse constante. Lorsque le pouls peut
être déterminé pour la première fois, le dégonflage est synchronisé avec le
battement du cœur jusqu'à ce que la mesure soit terminée. Le symbole du
cœur clignote. La mesure est terminée lorsque le brassard se dégonfle rapide­ment et que l'écran du tensiomètre MTM s'éclaire en affichant des valeurs à côté
de SYS, DIA et PUL.

Cet appareil dispose de 2 mémoires disposant chacune de 99 emplacements en
mémoire. Les résultats sont automatiquement mémorisés dans la mémoire
sélectionnée. Si la mémoire est pleine, la mesure la plus ancienne est supprimée.

pour consulter les résultats des mesures en
mémoire. L’appareil affiche tout d’abord la moyenne de toutes les mesures
actuellement mémorisées; cette moyenne est indiquée par la lettre « A ».
Lorsque vous appuyez de nouveau sur la touche

, vous voyez s’afficher
alternativement les différentes valeurs (systole, diastole, pouls et date/heure) de
la dernière mesure en mémoire. L'écran 3 s'éclaire brièvement lors de
l'affichage. Le signe indique que la mesure a été effectuée avec le mode
3/MAM.
Appuyez de nouveau sur la touche

SET 4

pour revenir aux mesures précé­dentes. Le numéro du bloc mémoire attribué à la mesure s’affiche en bas à
gauche de l’écran, au-dessus du symbole MR. Les valeurs s’affichent toujours
dans l’ordre décroissant. Si vous avez par exemple mémorisé sept résultats de
mesure, vous voyez d’abord apparaître le résultat n° 7 (dernière mesure
effectuée), puis le résultat n° 6 (avant-dernière mesure), etc.

L’appareil est fourni avec un logiciel sur CD et un câble USB permettant de
transférer sur votre ordinateur par l’interface USB les données qui se trouvent
sur le tensiomètre MTM MEDISANA. Reliez le câble USB à l’interface USB 6
de l’appareil d’un côté et à la prise USB de votre ordinateur de l’autre. Trois
barres verticales clignotantes s'affichent à l'écran du MTM lorsque le rac­cordement est correct. Insérez le CD dans votre ordinateur et procédez à
l’installation. Tout est expliqué dans le programme. Lorsque vous insérez le CD,
l’installation démarre automatiquement. Il vous suffit de suivre les instructions
qui s’affichent sur l’écran de votre ordinateur. En cas de problème, vous
trouverez dans le logiciel des fichiers d’aide complets.
