Intended use
The Medela Apgar Timer will sound a buzzer for the duration of 3 seconds
at intervals of 1, 5, and 10 minutes, thereby allowing the user to take the
Apgar scores at precise intervals. The Medela Apgar Timer is simple, practical and very helpful because even hospital staff can determine emergencies and can take the necessary steps in the labour room. The one-minute
value of the Apgar-score is an indicator for acute potential dangers to the
newborn, a help for the first care and reanimation. The five-minute value
can indicate that a hypoxie is present or a lack of first care of the baby. The
ten-minute value is another indicator for the primary adaptation of the baby.
In addition, the exact time of birth can be stored for later retrieval.
Contraindications
No contraindications are currently known.
Warnings/Safety instructions
The Apgar Timer may not be used in environments where there is a risk of
explosion.

Operation of the Apgar Timerseconds
The Apgar time is shown in minutes and seconds.
1. Starting the Apgar Timer
Push the Start/stop button.
2. Switching off the device
The Apgar Timer can be turned off by pushing the Start/stop but-
ton. The Timer will automatically shut off after 1 hour.
3. Storing the Birth Time
Push the birth time retrieval button and the Apgar Timer will auto-
matically indicate the exact time of birth for a duration of three seconds. The birth time is shown in hours and minutes.
4. Retrieval of the Birth Time
The birth time is called up in hours and minutes by pushing the
birth time retrieval button. The birth time will be changed as soon as
the next Apgar score is taken.
5. Battery Check
A set of batteries should last for 1’000 Apgar score measurements.
When the batteries become weak, 3 additional dots will appear on
the display.
6. Change of Batteries
The Apgar Timer has been designed so that the internal clock con-
tinues to run for approx. 2 minutes when the batteries are changed.
This means that when you change the batteries no adjustment of
time will be necessary.
To change the batteries, proceed as follows:
1. Remove old batteries.
2. Insert new batteries (two 1,5 volt alkaline batteries) according to
schematics.

Cleaning
General notes
The internal hospital directives take precedence. Wear suitable gloves for
cleaning/disinfection
.
– Switch off the device.
– The outside surfaces can be cleaned with a damp cloth.
– Cleaning or disinfecting agents should not be used in concentrated
form!

We recommend: Perform (conc. 1%, two 8-litre bags), Schülke & Mayr
Do not use: Terralin (conc. 2%), Schülke & Mayr
7. Checking the time
If you wish to check the time of the internal watch in the Apgar
Timer proceed as follows:
– Push the birth time retrieval button two times and exact time in
hours and minutes will appear.
– Push the Start/stop button.
8. Adjusting the time
The time on the internal clock can be set as follows:
1. Make sure there is no time visible on the Apgar Timer.
2. Push the birth time and start/stop button simultaneously.
A black dot will appear behind the first digit.
3. Push the birth time retrieval button until the correct number
appears in the first digit.
4. Push the Start/stop button, the back dot will jump to the second digit. Again push the birth time retrieval button until correct
number appears in the second digit.
5. Follow the same steps to correct the third and fourth digit.
6. Get out of the time adjusting mode by pushing the Start/stop
button.
If you enter the time adjusting mode and do not change any digits,
the original time will continue to run after you exit out of this mode.

Disposal
Guarantee
The Apgar Timer is of modular design. It can thus be disassembled into
its individual components. The Apgar Timer is mainly made of technical
plastics which can be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.
The LCD, circuit board, electric parts and batteries should be disposed of
separately.
Guarantee for the Apgar Timer for 2 years after date of delivery if used in
accordance with these instructions. The manufacturer is not liable for any
damage or consequential damage caused by incorrect operation, inappropriate usage as well as use by unauthorized persons.

Der Medela Apgar Timer ist einfach, praktisch und hilfreich, weil dank ihm
im Kreissaal Notfälle auch von Nicht-Medizinern schnell erkannt und sofort
Massnahmen eingeleitet werden können. Der Ein-Minuten-Wert des ApgarScores ist ein Indikator für akute potentielle Gefahren des Neugeborenen,
eine Hilfe für Erstversorgung und Reanimation. Der Fünf-Minuten-Wert
kann ein Hinweis sein, dass eine Hypoxie vorliegen könnte oder gar eine
mangelnde Erstversorgung des Kindes. Der Zehn-Minuten-Wert ist ein
weiterer Indikator für die mittelfristige primäre Adaptation. Der Apgar Timer
ist mit einem Alarm-Signal ausgestattet, welches in den Zeitabständen von
1, 5 und 10 Minuten ertönt, um den Anwendern die Möglichkeit zu geben,
die Apgar Werte in genauen Zeitabständen zu notieren. Zudem kann die
genaue Geburtszeit für späteren Abruf gespeichert werden.
Kontraindikationen
Es sind zur Zeit keine Kontraindikationen bekannt.

Der Apgar Timer ist nicht zugelassen für die Verwendung in explosionsgefährdeter Umgebung.

Inbetriebnahme
Die Apgar Zeit wird in Minuten und Sekunden angezeigt.
1. In Betrieb setzen
Start/Stop-Taste drücken.
2. Abschalten
Der Apgar Timer wird abgeschaItet, indem die Start/Stop-Taste
gedrückt wird. Nach einer Stunde schaltet der Apgar Timer jedoch
automatisch ab.
3. Speicherung der Geburtszeit
Die genaue Geburtszeit wird gespeichert indem die Start/Stop-
Taste sofort nach der Geburt gedrückt wird. Die Geburtszeit wird in
Stunden und Minuten angezeigt.
4. Abruf der Geburtszeit
Wenn die Geburtsabruf-Taste gedrückt wird, wird die Geburtszeit in
Stunden und Minuten abgerufen. Sobald mit dem Apgar Timer eine
neue Messung vorgenommen wird, wird die Geburtszeit überschrieben.
5. Batterien prüfen
Ein Satz Batterien reicht für ca. 1’000 Apgar Messungen. Wenn die
Batterien schwach werden, erscheinen 3 weitere Punkte auf der
Anzeige.
6. Batterien wechseln
Der Apgar Timer wurde so entwickelt, dass die interne Uhr ca. 2
Min. weiter läuft, wenn die Batterien gewechselt werden.
Das heisst, dass wenn die Batterien gewechselt werden, keine
neue Zeiteinstellung erfolgen muss.
Batterien wie folgt wechseln:
1. Alte Batterien entfernen.
2. Die neuen Batterien (zwei 1,5 Volt Alkali-Batterien) gemäss
Schema einsetzen.

Reinigung
Generelle Hinweise
Vorrangig gelten die krankenhausinternen Richtlinien. Für die Reinigung/
Desinfektion geeignete Handschuhe tragen.
– Gerät abschalten.
– Äusserlich mit einem feuchten Lappen reinigen.
– Reinigungs- und Desinfektionsmittel dürfen nicht in konzentrierter Form
verwendet werden.

Unsere Empfehlung: Perform (Konzentration 1%, zwei 8-Liter-Beutel),
Schülke & Mayr
Nicht geeignet: Terralin (Konzentration 2%), Schülke & Mayr
7. Zeit kontrollieren
Die Zeit auf der internen Uhr kann wie folgt kontrolliert werden:
– Geburtszeitabruf-Taste 2 x drücken und die genaue Zeit
wird in Stunden und Minuten angezeigt.
– Start/Stop-Taste drücken.
8. Zeit einstellen
Die Zeit auf der internen Uhr kann wie folgt eingestellt werden:
1. Sicherstellen, dass keine Zeit auf dem Apgar Timer angezeigt
ist.
2. Geburtszeitabruf- und Start/Stop-Taste gleichzeitig drücken.
Ein schwarzer Punkt erscheint hinter der ersten Ziffer.
3. Geburtszeitabruf-Taste drücken bis die richtige Ziffer erscheint.
4. Start/Stop-Taste drücken und der schwarze Punkt springt zur
zweiten Ziffer. Geburtszeitabruf-Taste drücken bis die richtige
Ziffer erscheint.
5. Schritte 3 – 4 für die dritte und vierte Ziffer folgen.
6. Start/Stop-Taste drücken, um den Zeiteinstellungsmodus zu
verlassen.
Wenn unbeabsichtigt der Zeiteinstellungsmodus gestartet wird, und
keine Ziffern verändert wurden, wird die Originalzeit beim Verlassen
dieses Modus wieder hergestellt.

Entsorgung
Garantiebestimmungen
Der Apgar Timer ist modular aufgebaut. Dadurch kann es ohne grossen
Aufwand in einzelne Komponenten zerlegt werden. Der Apgar Timer
besteht hauptsächlich aus technischen Kunststoffen. LCD, Leiterplatte,
elektrische Teile und Batterien sind einzeln zu entsorgen – gemäss den
lokalen Vorschriften.
Garantie für den Apgar Timer 2 Jahren ab Lieferdatum, wenn das
Gerät diesen Anweisungen entsprechend benutzt wird. Für Schäden/
Folgeschäden wegen unsachgemäßer Behandlung, nicht bestimmungsgemäßer Verwendung sowie bei Handhabung durch nicht autorisierte
Personen besteht keine Haftung.

Domaine d’utilisation
Le Chronomètre Apgar Medela est simple, pratique et utile, car grâce à lui,
les urgences peuvent être reconnues rapidement dans la salle des nourrissons, même par des non-médecins; les mesures d’urgence peuvent être
immédiatement entreprises. La valeur du score Apgar à une minute sert à
indiquer les dangers potentiels aigus que le nouveau-né peut présenter; il
est utile pour les premiers soins et la réanimation. La valeur à cinq minutes
peut indiquer une hypoxie ou bien une lacune dans les premiers soins
donnés à l’enfant. La valeur à dix minutes indique quant à elle l’adaptation
primaire à moyen terme du bébé. La minuterie Apgar est pourvue d’un
signal d’alarme audible qui s’enclenche à 1, 5 et 10 minutes; l’utilisateur
peut alors noter les scores Apgar à des intervalles précis. De plus, l’heure
de naissance peut être enregistrée pour être relue plus tard.
Contre-indications
Aucune contre-indication connue à ce jour.

Mise en marche
Le temps Apgar est indiqué en minutes et en secondes.
1. Activation
Appuyer sur la touche start/stop.
2. Désactivation
Le Chronomètre Apgar s’éteint lorsqu’on presse sur la touche start/
stop. Après une heure, le Chronomètre Apgar s’éteint automatiquement.
3. Enregistrement de l’heure de naissance
On enregistre l’heure de naissance exacte en pressant immédiate-
ment sur la touche start/stop après la naissance. L’heure de naissance est indiquée en heures et en minutes.
4. Relecture de l’heure de naissance
Lorsqu’on presse sur la touche de relecture de l’heure de naissan-
ce, celle-ci apparaît, indiquée en heures et en minutes. Dès qu’on
introduit une nouvelle mesure sur le Chronomètre Apgar, l’heure de
naissance précédente est effacée.
5. Tester les piles
Un set de piles suffit pour 1000 mesures Apgar. Lorsque les piles
s’affaiblissent, 3 autres points apparaissent encore sur l’écran.
6. Changer les piles
Le Chronomètre Apgar a été conçu de manière à ce que l’horloge
interne continue de fonctionner pendant env. 2 min. lorsqu’on
change les piles. Cela signifie qu’après avoir changé les piles, il n’y
a pas besoin d’effectuer de remise à l’heure.
Comment changer les piles:
1. Ôter toutes les piles.
2. Mettre les nouvelles piles (deux piles alcalines 1,5 Volts) selon
schéma.

Nettoyage
Généralités
Les directives internes de l'hôpital prévalent. Port obligatoire de gants
adaptés pour le nettoyage/désinfection.
– Déclencher l’appareil.
– Nettoyer le boîtier au moyen d’un chiffon humide.
– Ne pas utiliser de produits de nettoyage ni de désinfectants sous
forme concentrée.
Produit pour nettoyer la surface
Nous recommandons: Perform (1%, deux sachets à 8 litres) Schulke & Mayr
Ne pas utiliser: Terralin (2%), Schulke & Mayr
7. Contrôler l’heure
L’heure de l’horloge interne peut être contrôlée comme suit:
– Appuyer 2 x sur la touche de rappel de l’heure de naissance,
l’écran indique alors l’heure exacte en heures et en minutes.
– Presser sur start/stop.
8. Mettre l’horloge à l’heure
Pour mettre à l’heure l’horloge interne, procéder de la façon
suivante:
1. S’assurer que l’écran du Chronomètre Apgar n’indique aucune
heure.
2. Appuyer sur le bouton rappel de l’heure de naissance et
simultanément sur le bouton start/stop.
Un point noir apparaît derrière le premier chiffre.
3. Presser sur la touche d’indication de l’heure de naissance
jusqu’à ce que le chiffre exact apparaisse.
4. Presser la touche start/stop, le point noir saute au second
chiffre. Presser à nouveau la touche d’indication de l’heure de
naissance jusqu’à ce que le chiffre exact apparaisse.
5. Répéter les étapes 3 et 4 pour les 3ème et 4ème chiffres.
6. Presser sur a touche start/stop afin de quitter le mode de mise
à l’heure.
Si l’on enclenche malencontreusement le mode de mise à l’heure,
sans changer un seul chiffre, l’heure originale réapparaîtra automatiquement dès que vous aurez quitté ce mode.

Le Chronomètre Apgar est fabriqué de façon modulaire. Il peut donc être
démonté sans problème en composants individuels. Le Chronomètre
Apgar est constitué surtout de matériaux synthétiques. LCD, circuit conducteur, parties électriques et piles doivent être jetés séparément, conformément aux prescriptions locales.
Le minuteur Apgar bénéficie d'une garantie de 2 ans à compter de la date
de livraison à condition d'être utilisé en conformité avec les présentes
instructions. Le fabricant décline toute responsabilité pour les dommages/
dommages consécutifs provoqués par une utilisation impropre, un usage
non conforme ou une manipulation par des personnes non autorisées.

Uso previsto
Il Medela Apgar Timer é di uso semplice e pratico e offre un aiuto prezioso,
perchè grazie ad esso anche il personale non medico può riconoscere
tempestivamente le emergenze in sala parto e prendere immediatamente
le misure necessarie. Il valore dell’indice di Apgar dopo 1 minuto è un
indicatore di potenziali pericoli acuti per il neonato, un aiuto per la prima
assistenza e la rianimazione. Il valore dopo 5 minuti può essere indizio di
un’asfissia o addirittura di una carenza dell’assistenza prestata al bambino.
Il valore dopo 10 minuti è un ulteriore indicatore dell’adattamento primario
a medio termine. L’Apgar Timer emette un segnale di allarme a intervalli di
1, 5 e 10 minuti, per dare all’utilizzatore la possibilità di annotare gli indici di
Apgar a intervalli precisi. Inoltre si può memorizzare l’ora esatta della nascita per richiamarla più tard.
Controindicazioni
Al momento non sono note controindicazioni.

Messa in funzione
Il tempo di Apgar viene indicato in minuti e secondi.
1. Mettere in funzione
Premere il tasto Start/Stop.
2. Spegnere
L’Apgar Timer viene spento premendo il tasto Start/Stop. Dopo
1 ora l’Apgar Timer si spegne comunque automaticamente.
3. Memorizzazione dell’ora di nascita
L’ora esatta della nascita viene memorizzata premendo il tasto
Start/Stop immediatamente dopo la nascita. L’ora della nascita
viene indicata in ore e minuti.
4. Richiamo dell’ora di nascita
Premendo il pulsante per il richiamo dell’ora di nascita, quest’ultima
viene visualizzata in ore e minuti. Non appena con l’Apgar Timer si
effettua una nuova misurazione, la nuova ora di nascita viene sovrascritta sul valore precedente.
5. Controllo delle batterie
Una serie di batterie basta per circa 1’000 misurazioni dell’indice di
Apgar. Quando le batterie iniziano ad esaurirsi, nel display appaiono
3 punti.
6. Sostituzione delle batterie
Apgar Timer è stato costruito in modo che l’orologio interno conti-
nui a funzionare per circa due minuti, anche quando si sostituiscono le batterie. In altre parole, dopo aver sostituito le batterie non
bisogna regolare di nuovo l’ora.
Sostituire le batterie nel modo seguente:
1. Togliere le vecchie batterie.
2. Inserire le nuove batterie (due batterie alcaline da 1,5 Volt),
come indicato nello schema.

Pulizia
Avvisi generali
Le direttive interne della struttura ospedaliera hanno la precedenza

– Pulire l’esterno con un panno umido.
– Detergenti e disinfettanti non devono essere utilizzati in forma concen-
trata.

7. Controllare l’ora
L’ora dell’orologio interno può essere controllata nel modo seguente:
– Premere 2 volte il pulsante Richiamo ora nascita: viene visualiz-
zato l'orario preciso in ore e minuti.
– Premere il tasto Start/Stop.
8. Regolare l’ora
Per controllare l'ora dell’orologio interno di Apgar Timer, procedere
nel modo seguente:
1. Accertarsi che l’Apgar Timer non indichi nessuna ora.
2. Premere simultaneamente i tasti “Start/Stop” e “Richiamo
dell’ora di nascita”. Dietro alla prima cifra appare un punto nero.
3. Premere il tasto di richiamo dell’ora di nascita, finché non appare
la cifra giusta.
4. Premere il tasto Start/Stop e il punto nero salta alla seconda
cifra. Premere il tasto di richiamo dell’ora di nascita, finché non
appare la cifra giusta.
5. Ripetere i punti 3 – 4 per la quarta cifra.
6. Premere il tasto Start/Stop per uscire dal modo di regolazione
dell’ora.
Se è stato attivato inavvertitamente il modo di regolazione dell’ora,
senza peraltro che sia stata modificata nessuna delle cifre, l’ora originale viene ripristinata non appena si esce da tale modo.
