The MedaCure AMERICAN SPIRIT 3 Function Electric Low Bed & 3 Function ULTRA LOW Bed are fully
electric beds for Long Term Care, Hospital & Home Care settings. It has a low position of 14.9” (SLB149-B / SLB149-
3 patient position functions to enhance the quality of care and for ultimate comfort. The AMERICAN SPIRIT
uses sophisticated motors to control all functions and has a weight capacity of 450 lbs (ULB Series) & 550 lbs
(SLB Series). The bed comes standard with a patient remote control. The bed is a Class II Medical Device.
The plug and the motors are IP43 rated.
Durable and built to last with all steel construction and removable head & foot boards. The AMERICAN SPIRIT beds

1. Castors - Installation and Operation
1.1. Place the bed surface plate flat down (face to the floor) on a blanket or any soft floor.
Unscrew the bolt on the castor and insert the castor stem into the castor tube of the bed frame.
Align the screw hole and tighten the M8 x 15 bolt with φ8 spring washer - see figure # 2.
Install the 4 castors (total 2 pcs swivel and 2 pcs with brake) respectively, using the same type of
caster installed on the diagonal opposing corner.

1.2. Turn over the bed frame (with the castors toward the floor). Step on the locking peddle
(lower) to lock the castors in place and step on the unlocking peddle (upper) to unlock the
castors. See figure # 3 and # 4.

3.1.2 Match the bed head board with the bed frame installation holes. Fasten by M8 X 20 cup
head bolt with φ 8 flat washer, as per Figure # 8.

4. Operation for bed surface extension frame
4.1 First, loosen the “LockingBolt”. Then, pull the “PullingButton” with one hand and pull out the
extension frame until it clicks into your desired location hole (see 4.2 below). Tighten
the “Locking Bolt” to lock the extension frame in place. See figure # 10.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
adjustment settings - 36”, 42” and 48” widths. There are 4 separate extension frames on
each side of the main frame. Repeat the above method in 6.1 to achieve the desired width
and then tighten the “LockingBolt” to lock the extension frame in place. See Figure # 10A.

5. Operation for Bed foot length extension frame
Loosen the screw on the bed frame, and pull out the extension frame. Tighten
the screw until the ideal length is selected, as per Figure # 11.

6. Mattress Retainer
6.1 Corner mattress retainer Installation
Each corner of the bed frame has two mattress retainer installation holes. Insert the mattress

7. Bumper Guard Installation and Usage
7.1 Insert the retractable rubber bumper guard stem to the bracket. Align the mounting holes
and fasten the screws as noted in Figure # 11.2

7.2 Extended Position: Push the retractable rubber bumper guard stem upward and turn
the stem outward until the screw clicks with slot as noted in Figure # 11.3

8. Side Rails - Installation and Operation
8.1. Unscrew the knob at the side rail mounting base. Insert the mounting base into the 30 x
20 rectangular tube of the back bed plate. Adjust well and tighten the knob - see Figure # 12

8.2. Raise the side rail until it clicks into place. Pull the knob button to lower the side rail -
see figure # 13.

9. Patient remote control - Operation
Ensure the power cord is connected. Patient can easily control all 3 bed functions by using the
remote control. This includes adjusting the entire bed height, raising & lowering the head & foot
areas. Press the selected button until you reach the ideal position - see figure # 14.

10.IV Pole
The bed frame has 2 sockets to insert an IV Pole. Each corner of the bed head frame has one
installation hole for an IV Pole. Insert the IV Pole into any one of the sockets and adjust to
your desired height.
11. Battery backup – Available on all models with a ‘B’ in the model #
On select bed models, the motor has a backup battery that will operate all functions in case
of a power outage. The motor has a backup battery that will operate all functions in case of
a power outage. The motor includes 24V 4A rechargeable batteries. The battery lifetime is
2- 4 years depending on usage. Replace the battery when the functions no longer operate
well in battery mode (and plug is disconnected). To replace the battery, unscrew the 4 screws
on the control box and pull out the wires connected to the batteries. Remove the battery and
replace with new rechargeable batteries. Connect the wire to the new batteries and replace
the cover on the control box with the 4 screws (see figure#15)
If the bed is not used for a long time (more than 1 month), it is recommended to recharge the
batteries. Plug in the AC wire of the bed to recharge the battery for 8-10 hours one time each
month.
