USING
THE
ADVA;~CED
MODES
Overview
The
AFI
has
the
following
modesofoperation
other
than the
main
display mode.
ALARM:
In this
mode
alarm
points
can be set
and
other
features
pertainingtothe
alarms
can
be
configured.
COM:
COMinthis
context
stands
for
'colllmunications'.
This
mode
allovvs
the
serial HS232
and
MITUTOYO
outputs
to be configured. Also
the
internal storageofreadings
and
their
subsequent
transmission arc
dictated
througll
settings in
this
mode.
EXTRA:
The
EXTRA
mode
allows all
other
instrument
characteristics
not
preViously coveredtobe
configured.
SETTING
AND
USE
The
other
three
operating
modes
arc selected in
the
rollovving
manner.
Assuming the
instrumentisin
the display mode,
the
"MODE"
key
(found
on
the top
rO\v

left)
is
pressed
and
held for
two
seconds.

tampering.

Overview
The
alarm
feature operates by
settingaband
comprisingoftwo
force points, an
upper
and

alarm
can
now
be configured so
that,
depending
on
the
users c!loice, a buzzer
may
sound
and/or
a light
may
change
from green to red
to
signify
whether
the
test force has
goneinor
outofthe
selected
band.

can be
entered
as described
aboveinthe
section
entitled
'SErnNG
AND USE'.

configuring
the

These are

RS-232 port.

senltotheir respective ports consecutively. This line delayisexecuted after
the whole transmission sequence. The delayisusually only needed "vhen

sent
immediately to

RS-232 and MITUTOYO ports

and hold the "TXD" key for
two
seconds
and
all internal
memory
readings stored
so far will
be sent to
both
the
RS-232
and
M1TUTOYO
ports as described above,

Once
running,
the
process can be aborted
by pressing
any
key.
Press and hold the
"RESET"
key for
two
seconds
and
the
internal
memory
will be
clearect
the display shows 'StNNN' as this clearing function executesj where NNNisthe
number
of memory locations
now
available for storage.
An
RS-232 remote control featureisalso implemented for
computer
control of the
instrument. Thisisachieved by
sending
special key code characters
that
represent
the
six
main
instrument
keys to the
RS~232
input.

(APPENDIXA)at
the
endofthis manual.
This
is
the
final 'COM' setting mode, pressing the "MORE" keyatthis
