SECTION I

General Information

• The BACTI-CINERATOR is a gasless, flameless sterilizer for use with inoculating loops and
needles.

• Sterilization is accomplished through infrared heat without dangerous spattering of
microorganisms.

• The base of the BACTI-CINERATOR is weighted for stability and provides convenient storage
for six loop holders.

SECTION II

Operating Instructions

1. Remove the packaging that protects the BACTI-CINERATOR from being damaged during
shipment.

2. Plug the electrical cord into the appropriate electrical outlet.

WARNING: Do not

use a two­prong adapter to plug the BACTI-CINERATOR in to the electrical outlet. The unit must be
properly grounded.

3. The lighted rocker switch will come on when the switch is in the “ON” position.

4. Ten minutes after the BACTI-CINERATOR is turned to “ON”, the optimal sterilizing
temperature (1500°F/816°C) will be reached. The BACTI-CINERATOR should be turned on
at the beginning of the workday and left in the “ON” position throughout the day. The unit
may be left on indefinitely without posing an electrical or fire hazard. Turning the BACTI­CINERATOR to the “OFF” position during extended periods of non-use will conserve the life
of the heater element .

5. Gently insert the loop or needle, attached to an insulated loop holder, into the heater
element. Avoid scraping the sides of the heater element to ensure the longevity of your

Precautions and Maintenance

• Use only Littlefuse as a replacement for the protective fuse (Section V).

• Only insulated loop holders should be used when inserting inoculating loops or needles into
the heater element.

• The BACTI-CINERATOR is not intended for use with scalpels, forceps or any sharp objects. The use
of such objects can cause element malfunction and void the heater element warranty.

• Visual inspection of the heater element should be performed periodically to determine if the
heater element core is worn. Inspect for small cracks and residue buildup in both the cool
and heated conditions. In the heated condition, cracks can be seen as small, intensely
yellow-orange fissures. If any defects are noted, the heater element should be replaced
before element malfunction occurs.

• The inoculating loops and needles should not be allowed to set in the heater element for
extended periods of time. This will cause the loop holder to become extremely hot and
increase the wearing of the loops and needles.

• The cooling shield can reach temperatures of up to 400ºF. Avoid contact with flammable
materials.

• If the unit is not used in accordance with these operating instructions, protection provided
by the equipment may be impaired.

General Cleaning Instructions

1. Turn off the BACTI-CINERATOR and let cool one hour.

2. IMPORTANT: Unplug the BACTI-CINERATOR from the power source. Never clean the
BACTI-CINERATOR while connected to the main supply.

3. A mild detergent should be used for general cleaning of all outside surfaces. A cloth
dampened with isopropyl alcohol may be used to clean the unit.

4. Avoid excess moisture around the heating element and the power cords as this can lead to
an electrical shock hazard.

CAUTION
DO NOT IMMERSE THE BACTI-CINERATOR IN WATER OR OTHER CLEANING
SOLUTION. CLEAN USING A DAMP (NOT WET) CLOTH. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE
CLEANING PROCEDURE DESCRIBED HEREIN COULD RESULT IN HAZARDS TO
USERS. As with any AC powered electric device, care must be taken to prevent
liquid from entering the BACTI-CINERATOR in order to avoid electrical shock
hazard, fire hazard, or damage to electrical components.

On the inside of the unit, remove the 2 heater element lead wires (5&6) from the lighted
rocker switch (J).

Remove the 2 screws (D) releasing the front cap (E) from the cooling shield (G) and slide
the front cap off.

4.

To remove the heater element (F), pull the element out while allowing the element leads (L)
to be drawn up through the base post (H).

5.

To install the new element, reverse the procedure, feeding the element lead wires down
through the base post (H), situating the element into the rear cap (I) tubular housing.

6.

Make certain the element opening is facing towards the front cap (E) before attaching the
screws (D) through the front cap (E) and cooling shield (G).

7.

Attach the heater element leads (5&6) to the lighted rocker switch (J).

8.

Check all electrical connections. Replace cover plate (B); make sure all leads are inside the
base; fasten screws (A). Plug the electrical cord into the power source and turn switch "ON".
Allow 10 minutes before use.

Warranty Information

The BACTI-CINERATOR unit itself (without element) is warranted for one year against defects
in material and workmanship. The warranted life of the BACTI-CINERATOR* Element is six
months. If within the established warranty period the instrument is found to have such defects,
repair or replacement will be made without charge by Tyco Healthcare (transportation to the
point of repair to be assumed by the purchaser). This warranty becomes effective when the
ultimate user receives the product and will be based on proof of purchase or date of invoice.
There are no other warranties expressed or implied, including any warranties of merchantability
or fitness for a particular purpose.

Should damage to the instrument occur due to improper use or improper maintenance (failure
to provide reasonable and necessary maintenance), this written warranty is void.

For international customers, all in-warranty claims as well as out-of-warranty repairs and
replacements must be handled by the dealer from whom the instrument was purchased. This
dealer also maintains a stock of all the recommended customer replaceable repair parts.

1. Enlever l’emballage qui protège le BACTI-CINERATOR* pendant le transport.

2. Brancher le cordon électrique dans la prise secteur adéquate.

AVERTISSEMENT : Ne pas
utiliser d’adaptateur à deux fiches pour brancher le BACTI-CINERATOR* dans la prise
secteur. L’unité doit être mise à la terre de façon adéquate.

3. L’interrupteur basculant lumineux s’allume lorsque l’interrupteur est en position de
marche “ON”.

4. Dix minutes après la mise en marche du BACTI-CINERATOR*, la température optimale de
stérilisation est atteinte (816˚C). Le BACTI-CINERATOR* doit être mis en marche en début
de journée et rester en position “ON” toute la journée. L’unité peut rester en marche sans

Précautions et Maintenance

• Utiliser uniquement un fusible Littlefuse comme remplacement du fusible de protection
(Section V).

• Utiliser uniquement des supports d’anse isolés lors de l’insertion d’anses ou d’aiguilles
d’inoculation dans l’élément chauffant.

• Le BACTI-CINERATOR* n’est pas conçu pour être utilisé avec des scalpels, des pinces ou
tout autre objet pointu. L’utilisation de tels objets peut entraîner un dysfonctionnement de
l’élément et annuler la garantie de l’élément chauffant.

• Effectuer régulièrement une inspection visuelle de l’élément chauffant afin de déterminer si
la partie centrale est usée. Déceler la présence de toute petite fissure et d’accumulation de
résidus dans des conditions à la fois de froid et de chaleur. En condition de chaleur, les
fissures peuvent être petites et d’une couleur orange-jaune. En cas de défaut, remplacer
l’élément chauffant avant qu’un dysfonctionnement de l’élément ne survienne.

• Les anses et aiguilles d’inoculation ne doivent pas rester dans l’élément chauffant pendant
de longues périodes car le support de l’anse devient très chaud, ce qui augmente l’usure
des anses et des aiguilles.

• L’écran de refroidissement peut atteindre des températures de 205˚C. Eviter tout contact
avec les matériaux inflammables.

• Si l’unité n’est pas utilisée selon ces instructions de fonctionnement, l’efficacité du système
de protection de l’équipement risque de s’en trouver réduite.

Instructions de Nettoyage Général

1. Mettre le BACTI-CINERATOR* hors tension et le laisser refroidir pendant une heure.

2. IMPORTANT : Débrancher le BACTI-CINERATOR* de la source d’alimentation. Ne jamais
nettoyer le BACTI-CINERATOR* pendant qu’il est branché sur l’alimentation secteur.

3. Utiliser un détergent doux pour le nettoyage général de toutes les surfaces externes. Un
chiffon humecté d’alcool isopropylique peut être utilisé pour nettoyer l’unité.

4. Eviter l’accumulation d’humidité excessive autour de l’élément chauffant et des cordons
d’alimentation car ceci peut entraîner un risque de choc électrique.

Installation du BACTI-CINERATOR* IV
Elément Chauffant de Remplacement

INSTALLATION

1.

Enlever les vis (A) de fixation du couvercle (B) au socle.

2. Sur la partie intérieure de l’unité, enlever les 2 fils conducteurs de l’élément chauffant (5&6)
de l’interrupteur basculant lumineux (J).

3. Enlever les 2 vis (D) de dégagement de l’embout frontal (E) de l’écran de refroidissement (G)
et enlever l’embout frontal en le faisant glisser.

4. Pour enlever l’élément chauffant (F), extraire l’élément en tirant, tout en retirant les fils de
l’élément vers le haut (L) à travers le montant de socle (H).

5. Pour installer le nouvel élément, effectuer cette même procédure dans le sens inverse, en
insérant les fils conducteurs de l’élément vers le bas à travers le montant de socle (H),
positionnant ainsi l’élément dans le logement tubulaire de l’embout arrière (I).

6. S’assurer que l’ouverture de l’élément est face à l’embout frontal (E) avant de serrer les vis
(D) à travers l’embout frontal (E) et l’écran de refroidissement (G).

7. Fixer les fils conducteurs de l’élément chauffant (5&6) à l’interrupteur basculant lumineux
(J).

8. Vérifier tous les branchements électriques. Remettre le couvercle (B) ; s’assurer que tous
les fils conducteurs sont situés à l’intérieur du socle ; serrer les vis (A). Brancher le cordon
électrique dans la source d’alimentation et mettre l’interrupteur en position de marche “ON”.
Patienter 10 minutes avant d’utiliser l’unité.

Kuumenninelementin vaihto uuteen

ASENNUS

1.

Irrota ruuvit (A), jotka kiinnittävät pohjalevyn (B) jalustaan.

2. Irrota laitteen sisällä olevat kuumenninelementin johdot (5 ja 6) valaistusta
keinukatkaisimesta J).

3. Irrota kaksi ruuvia (D), jolloin etulevy irtoaa jäähdytyssuojasta (G) ja vedä etulevy irti.

4. Kuumenninelementti (F) irrotetaan vetämällä kuumenninelementti ulos , jolloin
kuumenninelementin johdot (L) vetäytyvät ylös jalustan varren (H) läpi.

5. Uusi kuumenninelementti asennetaan päinvastaisessa järjestyksessä syöttämällä elementin
johdot jalustan varren (H) läpi ja työntämällä elementti kiinni takalevyn (I) putkimaiseen
koteloon.

6. Varmista, että elementin aukko osoittaa etulevyä (E) kohti ennen ruuvien (D) kiinnitystä
etulevyn (E) ja jäähdytyssuojan (G) läpi.

7. Kiinnitä kuumenninelementin johdot (5 ja 6) valaistuun keinukatkaisimeen (J).

8. Tarkasta kaikki sähköiset liitokset. Kiinnitä pohjalevy (B), varmista, että kaikki johdot
sijaitsevat jalustan sisällä, ja kiinnitä ruuvit (A). Kiinnitä verkkojohto pistorasiaan ja kytke
virtakytkin "PÄÄLLÄ"-asentoon. Odota 10 minuutin ajan ennen laitteen käyttöä.
