Itisnormalforexcessiveflare-ups,smoking andflaming to occur duringcleaningif the ovenisheavilysoiled.Itisbettertocleanthe ovenregularlyratherthantowaituntilthere isa heavybuild-upof soil inthe oven.
During the cleaning process, the kitchen shouldbe well ventilatedto help eliminate normalodorsassociatedwith cleaning.
BEFORESELF-CLEANING
Turnoffthe ovenlightbeforecleaningas the
lightmayburnout duringtheclean cycle. Removebroilerpan, all pansand theoven
racksfrom the oven. The oven racks will
discolor and may not slide easily after a self-dean cycle.
Cleanovenframe,doorframe(areaoutside
the doorgasket)andaroundthe openingin thedoorgasketwitha nonabrasivecleaning
agentsuch as BonAmi* or detergentand
water.Theseareasarenotexposedtoclean-
ing temperatures and should be
cleaned to prevent
soilfrom bakingon during the clean
cycle.
Toprevent damage, do not dean or rub
thegasket around theoven door.Thegas-
ket is designed to seal in heat during the
cleancycle.
Wipe up excessgreaseorspilloversfrom the
oven bottom to prevent excessivesmoking,
flare-upsor flamingduringthecleancycle.For
easeof cleaning,the heatingelementcan be liftedslightly(1 inch).
Wipe up sugary and acid spilloverssuch as
sweetpotatoes,tomatoor milk-basedsauces. Porcelainenamel is acid resistant, not acid
proof. Theporcelain finbh may discolor if
acidic spills are not wiped up prior to a self_ clean cycle.
DURINGCLEANCYCLE
Whenthe LOCKindicatorlightsinthe display, thedoorcannotbeopened.Topreventdamage todoor,do notforcedooropenwhentheLOCK
lightis illuminated. Somesmokeandodormaybedetectedthefirst
few timesthe oven is cleaned.This is normal
andwilllessenintime.Smokemayalsooccurif ovenis heavilysoiledorifbroilerpanwasleftin
oven, Asoven heats,you mayhearsoundsofmetal
partsexpandingandcontracting,Thisis normal andwillnotdamageoven,
AFTERSELF-CLEANING
About one hour after the end of the clean
cycle, the LOCKindicator light will turn off.
At this point, the door can be opened.
Somesoil may'leavea lightgray,powderyash
whichcanbe removedwitha dampcloth.Ifsoil
remains,it indicatesthat the cleancycle was notlongenough.Thesoilwillberemoveddur- ingthenextclean cycle.
If theoven rackswere left in theoven anddo notslidesmoothlyafteracleancycle,wiperacks
and embossed rack supports with a small amountofvegetableoiltorestoreeaseofmove-
ment.
A white discolorationmayappearafter clean-
ingifacidicor sugar},foodswerenotwipedup beforethecleancycle.Thisdiscolora%nis nor-
maland willNOTaffectperformance. Finelinesmayappearintheporcelainresulting
from theheatingandcoolingofthefinish.This
isnormalandwill notaffectperformance.
