CARTRIDGE STORAGE
To prevent condensation and for long life, the cartridge should only be operated or stored in the following conditions.

CARTRIDGE HANDLING
Handle the cartridge carefully. The cartridge may be damaged if it is dropped. Labels should go only in the Front Slide Slot as
shown in the diagram. Do not put any labels on the top, bottom, sides, or rear of the cartridge. When not in use, the cartridge
should be stored in its protective plastic container. Do not store the cartridge in direct sunlight.
WRITE PROTECTING CARTRIDGES
The write protect switch protects recorded data.
Front
Slide Slot
Push the switch to the left to prevent any data recording on the cartridge. Orange indicator can be seen.
Orange Indicator
Push the switch to the right to allow data recording on the cartridge. Orange indicator cannot be seen.
In either position of the write protect switch, the data can be read from the cartridge.
CAUTION
Do not attempt to lift the drive handle before the green Operate Handle light is ON. Extract the cartridge slowly
INSERTING THE CARTRIDGE INTO THE DLT DRIVE
• Before you insert any tape cartridge, you should inspect it to ensure that it is not damaged.
• Verify that the system power is turned on and that the drive handle is in the closed position.
• Wait until the Operate Handle light (green) is ON steady and the drive beeps (no beep on DLT 8000 drives). Pull the handle up
to the open position.
• With the label slot facing out, insert the cartridge fully into the drive until a firm stop is encountered.
• Push the handle down to the closed position. The Tape in Use light (yellow) blinks as the tape loads and stays ON steady when
the tape is ready for use..
REMOVING THE CARTRIDGE FROM THE DRIVE
• Press the Unload Button (or issue the appropriate system software command). The Tape in Use light (yellow) blinks as the tape
rewinds. This may take several minutes.
• When the beep sounds (no beep on the DLT 8000 drives) and the Operate Handle light (green) is ON, lift the handle up to the
open position to eject the cartridge.
• Remove the cartridge and push the handle down to the closed position.
