DESCRIPTION
MASTERFORCE 8” Variable Speed Bench Grinder is equipped
with a totally enclosed ball bearing motor. Armature
assembly is dynamically balanced for smooth operation.
Grinder operates at speeds between 1745 to 3450 RPM.
Quick-release wheel guard covers allow for easy changing
of wheels. Tool rests are adjustable for wheel wear and
angle grinding. Grinder comes complete with spark guards,
safety eyeshields, wheel dresser and light bulb.

CAUTION: Do not attempt assembly if parts are missing.
Use this manual to order replacement parts.
Check for shipping damage or missing parts. If any parts
are damaged or missing, call 1-800-266-9079 for replacement.
The grinder comes assembled as one unit. Additional parts
which need to be fastened to the grinder should be located and accounted for before assembling:

SAFETY RULES
WARNING: For your own safety, read operating instruc-
tions manual before operating tool.
PROPOSITION 65 WARNING: Some dust created
by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling and other
construction activities contains chemicals known to the
state of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other
reproductive harm.
Some examples of these chemicals are:
• Lead from lead-based paints.
• Crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other
masonry products.
• Arsenic and chromium from chemically-treated lumber.
Your risk from these exposures vary, depending on how
often you do this type of work. To reduce your exposure to
these chemicals: work in a well ventilated area and work
with approved safety equipment. Always wear OSHA/NIOSH
approved, properly fitting face mask or respirator when
using such tools.
BE PREPARED FOR JOB
• Wear proper apparel. Do not wear loose clothing, gloves,
neckties, rings, bracelets or other jewelry which may get
caught in moving parts of machine.
• Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair.
• Wear safety shoes with non-slip soles.
• Wear safety glasses complying with United States ANSI
Z87.1. Everyday glasses have only impact resistant lenses.
They are NOT safety glasses.
• Wear face mask or dust mask if operation is dusty.
• Be alert and think clearly. Never operate power tools
when tired, intoxicated or when taking medications that
cause drowsiness.
PREPARE WORK AREA FOR JOB
• Keep work area clean. Cluttered work areas and work
benches invite accidents.
• Do not use power tools in dangerous environments. Do
not use power tools in damp or wet locations. Do not
expose power tools to rain.
• Work area should be properly lighted.
• Proper electrical plug should be plugged directly into
properly grounded, three-prong receptacle.
• Extension cords should have a grounding prong and
the three wires of the extension cord should be of the
correct gauge.

• Keep visitors at a safe distance from work area.
• Keep children out of the workplace. Make workshop childproof. Use padlocks, master switches or remove switch
keys to prevent any unintentional use of power tools.
TOOL SHOULD BE MAINTAINED
• Always unplug tool prior to inspection.
• Consult manual for specific maintaining and adjusting
procedures.
• Keep tool clean for safest operation.
• Remove adjusting tools. Form habit of checking to see
that adjusting tools are removed before turning machine
on.
• Keep all parts in working order. Check to determine that
the guard or other parts will operate properly and perform their intended function.
• Check for damaged parts. Check for alignment of moving
parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting and any other condition that may affect a tool’s
operation.
• A guard or other part that is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced. Do not perform makeshift
repairs. (Use the parts list to order replacement parts.)
KNOW HOW TO USE TOOL
• Use right tool for job. Do not force tool or attachment to
do a job for which it was not designed.
• Disconnect tool from power when changing grinding
wheels.
• Avoid accidental start-up. Make sure that the switch is in
the off position before plugging in.
• Do not force tool. It will work most efficiently at the rate
for which it was designed.
• Keep hands away from moving parts and grinding surfaces.
• Never leave a tool running unattended. Turn the power off
and do not leave tool until it comes to a complete stop.
• Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance.
• Never stand on tool. Serious injury could occur if tool is
tipped over.
• Know your tool. Learn the tool’s operation, application
and specific limitations.
• Use recommended accessories. Use of improper accessories may cause risk of injury to persons.
• Handle the workpiece correctly.
ASSEMBLY
Refer to Figures 2 and 3.
WARNING: DO NOT assemble the bench grinder until
you are sure:
• The tool IS NOT plugged in.
• The power switch is in the “OFF” Position.
• The grinding wheels are FIRMLY TIGHTENED to the
bench grinder.
TOOL RESTS
Refer to Figure 2.
The bench grinder is provided with two different tool rest
assemblies. The left side tool rest is entirely flat. The right
side tool rest is also flat.
• Assemble the tool rest supports (A) to the inside surface
of the wheel covers (B) with the flat washers (C) and
hex head screws (D) as shown.
• Assemble the tool rests (E) to the supports (A) with the
flat washers (F) and adjustment knobs (G) as shown.
• Adjust each tool rest until its inside edge is

⁄16 ” from the
grinding wheel. Firmly tighten the hex head screws holding the supports.
• Install the drill bit sharpening plate (H) by loosening the
right side adjustment knob until there is approximately a
1
⁄4” of threads visible. Place the plate onto the right side
tool rest and over the visible threads. The flat washer
must be placed between the plate and the adjustment
knob. Tighten the adjustment knob.
IMPORTANT: The drill bit sharpening plate should ONLY
be used when sharpening twist drill bits.
SPARK ARRESTORS AND EYESHIELDS
Refer to Figure 3, page 4.
• Assemble the spark arrestors (A) to the inside surface of
the wheel covers (B) with the flat washers (C) and hex
head screws (D) as shown.
• Adjust each spark arrestor until the lower edge is

⁄16 ”
from the grinding wheel. Firmly tighten the hex head
screws.
• Assemble the eyeshield (E) to the spark arrestor (A) by
inserting carriage head screw (F) through the eyeshield,
the spark arrestor, and the spacer (G) as shown.
• Assemble the flat washer (H) and lock knob (I) to the
carriage head screw and tighten until the eyeshield
remains in the desired position.

WORK LIGHT
The bench grinder is provided with a flexible work light to
assist in visibility of the workpiece.
The bench grinder is provided with a light bulb for the flexible work light. Screw bulb into housing.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, use a 120 volt, 25
watt or less track light bulb, Type S11, intermediate base or
equivalent. DO NOT use a light bulb that extends past the
end of the light housing.
CAUTION: The flexible work light housing will remain hot
for a few minutes after turning grinder “OFF”. Avoid contact
with housing until it is cool.
INSTALLATION
MOUNT GRINDER
Grinder must be mounted to a solid horizontal surface
(hardware not provided). To mount grinder to metal pedestal
stand:
• Align mounting holes with corresponding holes in
pedestal
• Insert a ¼-20 x 1¼” hex head bolt with flat washer
through base of grinder.
• Place a ¼” flat washer and ¼”-20 hex nut from the bottom of pedestal onto the bolt.
• Tighten until base is flush with the pedestal.
• Using second nut on each bolt, jam tighten against the
first to prevent loosening by vibration.
To mount grinder to wooden bench:
• Use ¼ x 1¼” wood screws with flat washers beneath
heads.
• Tighten screws until base is flush with bench top.
GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING: Improper connection of equipment grounding
conductor can result in the risk of electrical shock.
Equipment should be grounded while in use to protect operator from electrical shock.
• Check with a qualified electrician if grounding instructions are not understood or if in doubt as to whether
the tool is properly grounded.
• This grinder is equipped with an approved 3-conductor
cord rated at 150V and a 3-prong, grounding type plug
(See Figure 4) for your protection against shock hazards.
• Grounding plug should be plugged directly into a properly installed and grounded 3- prong grounding-type receptacle (See Figure 4).
• Do not remove or alter grounding prong in any manner.
In the event of a malfunction or breakdown, grounding
provides a path of least resistance for electrical shock.
WARNING: Do not permit fingers to touch the terminals
of plug when installing or removing from outlet.
• Plug must be plugged into matching outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local
codes and ordinances. Do not modify plug provided. If it
will not fit in outlet, have proper outlet installed by a
qualified electrician.
• Inspect tool cords periodically, and, if damaged, have
repaired by an authorized service facility.
• Green (or green and yellow) conductor in cord is the
grounding wire. If repair or replacement of the electric
cord or plug is necessary, do not connect the green
(or green and yellow) wire to a live terminal.
• Where a 2-prong wall receptacle is encountered, it must
be replaced with a properly grounded 3-prong receptacle
installed in accordance with National Electric Code and
local codes and ordinances.
WARNING: This work should be performed by a qualified
electrician.
• A temporary 3-prong to 2-prong grounding adapter (See
Figure 5) is available for connecting plugs to a two pole
outlet if it is properly grounded.
• Do not use a 3-prong to 2-prong grounding adapter
unless permitted by local and national codes and ordinances.
(A 3-prong to 2-prong grounding adapter is not permitted
in Canada.) Where permitted, the rigid green tab or terminal on the side of the adapter must be securely connected to a permanent electrical ground such as a properly grounded water pipe, a properly grounded outlet box
or a properly grounded wire system.
• Many cover plate screws, water pipes and outlet boxes
are not properly grounded. To ensure proper ground,
grounding means must be tested by a qualified electrician.

EXTENSION CORDS
• The use of any extension cord will cause some drop in
voltage and loss of power.
• Wires of the extension cord must be of sufficient size to
carry the current and maintain adequate voltage.
• Use the table to determine the minimum wire size
(A.W.G.) extension cord.
• Use only 3-wire extension cords having 3-prong grounding type plugs and 3-pole receptacles which accept the
tool plug.
• If the extension cord is worn, cut or damaged in any
way, replace it immediately.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
WARNING: All electrical connections must be performed
by a qualified electrician. Make sure tool is off and disconnected from power source while motor is mounted, connected, reconnected or anytime wiring is inspected.
OPERATION
SPECIFIC SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR BENCH
GRINDERS
The operation of any grinder can result in debris being
thrown into your eyes, which can result in severe eye damage. ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION . Any power tool
can throw debris during operations, which could cause
severe and permanent eye damage. Everyday eyeglasses are
NOT safety glasses. ALWAYS wear safety goggles (that
comply with ANSI standard Z87.1) when operating power
tools. Safety Goggles are available at Menard’s stores.
Basic precautions should always be followed when using
your bench grinder. To reduce the risk of injury, electrical
shock, or fire, comply with the safety rules listed below:
• ALWAYS USE THE EYE SHIELDS AND WHEEL
GUARDS provided with the grinder.
• REPLACE A CRACKED OR DAMAGED GRIND¬ING
WHEEL IMMEDIATELY. A damaged wheel can discharge debris at a high velocity towards the operator.
Carefully handle the grinding wheels since they are abrasive. Prior to replacing a grinding wheel, check it for
cracks. DO NOT remove the blotter or label on both
sides of the grinding wheel. Tighten the spindle nut just
enough to hold the grinding wheel firmly to the bench
grinder. Do not over-tighten the nut. Excessive clamping
force can damage the grinding wheel. Only use the
wheel flanges provided with the grinder. When selecting
a replacement grinding wheel, verify that the grinding
wheel has a higher R.P.M. rating than the maximum
R.P.M. of the Bench Grinder.
• THE DIAMETER OF THE GRINDING WHEELS WILL
DECREASE WITH USE. Adjust the tool rests and spark
arrestors to maintain a distance of
1
⁄16 ” from the wheel.
• DO NOT STAND IN FRONT OF THE BENCH
GRINDER WHEN STARTING IT. Stand to one side of
the bench grinder and turn it “ON”. Wait at the side
until the grinder comes up to full speed. There is always
a possibility that debris from a damaged grinding wheel
may be discharged towards the operator.
• THE BENCH GRINDER WILL PRODUCE SPARKS
AND DEBRIS DURING GRINDING OPERATIONS. Be
sure that there are not any flammable materials in the
vicinity. Frequently clean grinding dust from the back of
the bench grinder.
• NEVER FORCE THE WORKPIECE AGAINST A
GRINDING WHEEL, especially if the wheel is cold.
Apply the workpiece slowly, allowing the grinding wheel
an opportunity to warm up. This will minimize the
chance of wheel breakage. DO NOT grind using the
sides of the grinding wheels. DO NOT apply coolant
directly to the grinding wheel.
• KEEP ALL WHEEL GUARDS IN PLACE. DO NOT
USE THE BENCH GRINDER WITH THE WHEEL
GUARDS REMOVED.
• KEEP THE TOOL RESTS FIRMLY TIGHTENED.
• ALWAYS USE THE SUPPLIED WHEEL DRESSER TO
RESURFACE THE FACE OF THE GRINDING WHEEL.
• REMOVE ADJUSTING KEYS AND WRENCHES. Form
habit of checking to see that keys and adjusting wrenches are removed from tool before turning it on.
• DIRECTION OF FEED. Feed work into a blade or cutter
against the direction of rotation of the blade or cutter
only.
• USE RIGHT TOOL. Don’t force tool or attachment to do
a job for which it was not designed.
• DO NOT overtighten wheel nut.
• ONLY use flanges furnished with the grinder.
• FREQUENTLY clean grinding dust from beneath grinder.
• DO NOT FORCE THE TOOL to perform an operation
for which it was not designed. It will do a safer and
higher quality job by only performing operations for
which the tool was intended.

OPERATING THE BENCH GRINDER
The Bench Grinder is designed for hand held grinding,
sharpening, and cleaning operations.

ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION! Hot sparks are produced during grinding operations.
Sharpening and removal of metal can be done on the right
side of the bench grinder using the grinding wheel.
Cleaning of metal surfaces can be done using the wire
wheel on the left side of the bench grinder.
GRINDING SPEED CHART
• The Power Switch must be in the “OFF” position and the
variable speed switch must be turned to its slowest setting by being turned all the way to the left until solid
resistance is felt.
• Stand to the side of the bench grinder and plug in the
power cord to a suitable power source.
• Remain to the side of the bench grinder and turn it
“ON” by moving the power switch to the up position.
• Allow the grinding wheels to come up to a steady speed
for at least one minute. The R.P.M.’s of the Bench
Grinder can be now increased to the desired speed for
the particular grinding operation by rotating the Variable
Speed Switch clockwise.
• Adjust the eyeshields. Place the workpiece on the appropriate tool rest for the desired operation.
• Move the workpiece towards the grinding wheel until it
lightly touches. Move the workpiece back and forth
across the front surface of the grinding wheel removing
the amount of material desired.
WARNING: To avoid serious injury, never grind on the
sides of the grinding wheels.
• If the drill bit sharpening plate was installed earlier, lay
the drill bit flat in the “V” groove. Firmly hold on to the
drill bit shank. Slide the drill bit towards the grinding
wheel until it lightly touches. Keep the drill bit flat to the
plate and rotate the drill bit.
• After completing the grinding operations, turn “OFF” the
Bench Grinder by pushing down on the Power Switch.
CAUTION: It will take a few minutes for the grinding
wheels to come to a complete stop.
• Turn the variable speed switch counterclockwise to return
it to its slowest setting.
• Avoid contact with housing until it is cool. Unplug the
bench grinder from the power source.
NOTE: To prevent unauthorized use of the bench grinder,
the power switch has a removable locking key. With the
power switch in the “OFF” position, pull the locking key
out. The bench grinder cannot be turned “ON” with the key
removed. Insert the locking key to resume grinding operations.
MAINTENANCE
WARNING: Turn the power switch “OFF” and unplug the
power cord from its power source prior to any maintenance.
LUBRICATION
The bench grinder has sealed lubricated bearings in the
motor housing that do not require any additional lubrication
from the operator.
CLEANING
With the bench grinder unplugged, rotate the abrasive
wheels slowly and inspect for any damage or trapped shavings.
CAUTION: REPLACE the abrasive wheels if there is any
damage at all. FAILURE to replace a damaged wheel can
cause serious injury to the operator.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE FLAMMABLE MATERIALS to
clean the bench grinder. A clean dry rag or brush is all
that is needed to remove dust and debris buildup.
WARNING: Repairs to the bench grinder should be per-
formed by trained personnel only. Unauthorized repairs or
replacement with non-factory parts could cause serious
injury to the operator and damage to the bench grinder.
USING THE WHEEL DRESSER
The wheel dresser is to be used on the grinding wheels. It
will remove buildup of material on the grinding wheel,
remove imperfections and make the corners of the grinding
wheel square.
DO NOT use the wheel dresser on the wire wheel.
• If the optional drill bit sharpening accessory plate was
installed earlier, remove it and reassemble the right side
tool rest and adjust it until it is in the flat horizontal
position and

⁄16 ” away from the grinding wheel.
• Turn “ON” the bench grinder and then turn the variable
speed switch clockwise until solid resistance is felt. Let
the grinding wheel come up to a steady speed for one
minute.
• After the grinding wheel has gotten to a steady speed,
place the Wheel Dresser flat on the tool rest with the
serrated wheels facing the grinding wheel.
• Firmly hold on to the handle of the wheel dresser.
• Move the wheel dresser forward until the serrated
wheels make light contact with the grinding wheel. After
contact has been made, slide the wheel dresser side to
side across the tool rest to dress the grinding wheel until
the edge of the grinding wheel is square and the surface is clean.
• After the operator has completed dressing the grinding
wheel, turn “OFF” the bench grinder and let the grinding
wheel come to a complete stop.
• Inspect the grinding wheel for any damage!
• The grinding wheel may now be slightly smaller in diameter after dressing. Readjust the tool rests and spark
arrestors to maintain a 1⁄16 ” clearance to the grinding
wheel.

CHANGING THE GRINDING WHEEL
Refer to Figure 6.
Due to normal wear, both wheels will need to be replaced
occasionally.
• Turn the power switch OFF and unplug the power cord
from its power source.
• Rotate the eyeshield up to access the tool rest.
• Loosen the tool rest knob and rotate the tool rest away
from the grinding wheel.
• Turn quick release knob (A) counter-clockwise to remove
knob from guard completely.
• Rotate the quick change wheel cover (B) back about
1
⁄4
”
to release it from the inner wheel guard (C).
• Place a crescent wrench (not included) on the arbor hex
nut (D). Place the slot of the special wrench (included
with your grinder) onto the flats of the arbor shaft (E).
NOTE: The left hand arbor hex nut is left hand threaded
and is loosened by rotating it clockwise. The right hand
arbor hex nut is right hand threaded and is loosened by
rotating it counter-clockwise.
• Remove the outer wheel flange (F) and then the abrasive
wheel (G) from the arbor shaft.
CAUTION: The new abrasive wheel to be put onto the
grinder must have a higher R.P.M. rating than the grinder
(3450 R.P.M.). The new abrasive wheel must have the correct outer wheel diameter and bore diameter as original
wheels. The label on the side of the abrasive wheel must
stay on. DO NOT remove this label.
• Replace the abrasive wheel, outer wheel flange and
arbor hex nut.
NOTE: The left hand arbor hex nut is left hand threaded
and is tightened by rotating it counter-clockwise. The right
hand arbor hex nut is right hand threaded and is tightened
by rotating it clockwise.
CAUTION: Do Not Over-Tighten the arbor hex nut as
this may damage the abrasive wheel and cause serious
injury to the operator.
WIRE WHEEL OR BUFFING WHEEL
Refer to Figure 7.
A wire wheel or buffing wheel (A) can be used with your
grinder. Depending on the thickness of the wheel, you will
need to add one or more spacers to allow the arbor hex
nut to tighten correctly. These spacers are identical to each
other. Figure 7 shows the correct placement of the spacers
(B) and (C).
NOTE: One spacer (B) should always go onto the arbor
shaft first. The second spacer (C), if needed, will go on
next to the arbor hex nut (D) as shown. Always use the
wheel flanges (E) that came with the grinder for both wire
wheel and buffing wheels. See section “CHANGING THE
GRINDING WHEEL” for correct procedure of changing
wheels.

DESCRIPCION
La Esmeriladora de Banco de Velocidad Variable 8” MASTERFORCE han sido equipadas con un motor de roda mientos de
bola totalmente encerrado. El conjunto de inducido ha sido
balan ceado dinámicamente para obtener una operación uniforme.
La esmeriladora opera a velocidad entre 1745 a 3450 RPM. Las
protecciones de lanzamiento rápido de las ruedas facilitan el
cambio de éstas. Los soportes de la herramienta son ajustables
según el desgaste de la rueda y el esmerilado en ángulo. La
esmeri la dora incluye protecciones contra chispas, protecciones de
seguri dad para los ojos, acabador de la rueda y bombilla.

• Use una cubierta protectora para el cabello, para sujetar el
cabello largo.
• Use zapatos de seguridad con suelas antideslizantes.
• Use gafas de seguridad que cumplan con la norma ANSI
Z87.1 de los Estados Unidos. Los anteojos comunes tienen
lentes que sólo son resistentes al impacto. NO son gafas de
seguridad.
• Use una máscara para la cara o una máscara contra el
polvo, si al utilizar la herramienta se produce mucho polvo.
• Esté alerta y piense claramente. Nunca maneje herramientas
mecánicas cuando esté cansado, intoxicado o bajo la influencia de medicación que produzca somnolencia.
PREPARE EL AREA DE TRABAJO PARA LA TAREA A
REALIZAR
• Mantenga el área de trabajo limpia. Las áreas de trabajo
desordenadas atraen accidentes.
• No use herramientas mecánicas en ambientes peligrosos. No
use herramientas mecánicas en lugares húmedos o mojados.
No exponga las herramientas mecánicas a la lluvia.
• El área de trabajo debe estar iluminada adecuadamente.
• Debe haber disponible una toma de corriente adecuada para
la herramienta. El enchufe de tres puntas debe enchufarse
directamente a un receptáculo para tres puntas puesto a
tierra correctamente.
• Los cordones de extensión deben tener una punta de cone xión a tierra y los tres hilos del cordón de extensión deben
ser del calibre correcto.
• Mantenga a los visitantes a una distancia prudente del área
de trabajo.
• Mantenga a los niños fuera del lugar de trabajo. Haga que
su taller sea a prueba de niños. Use candados, interruptores
maestros y extraiga las llaves del arrancador para impedir
cualquier uso involuntario de las herramientas mecánicas.
ES IMPORTANTE DARLES MANTENIMIENTO A
LAS HERRAMIENTAS
• Desenchufe siempre la herramienta antes de inspeccionarla.
• Consulte el manual para informarse sobre los procedimientos
de mantenimiento y ajuste específicos.
• Mantenga la herramienta lubricada y limpia de modo que
funcione de la manera más segura.
• Retire las herramientas de ajuste. Desarrolle el hábito de verificar que hayan sido retiradas las herramientas de ajuste

• Revise que no haya partes dañadas. Verifique el alineamiento

• Si hay una protección o cualquier otra parte dañada, éstas
deberán repararse correctamente o ser reemplazadas. No
haga reparaciones provisionales (válgase de la lista de piezas
incluida para solicitar piezas de reemplazo).
EL OPERADOR DEBE SABER USAR LA HERRAMIENTA
• Use la herramienta correcta para cada trabajo. No fuerce la
herramienta o el accesorio ni los use para una tarea para la
que no fueron diseñados.
• Cuando cambie las ruedas esmeriladoras desconecte la
herramienta.
• Evite que la herramienta se encienda por accidente.
Cerciórese de que la herramienta esté en la posición “off”
(apagado) antes de enchufarla.
• No fuerce la herramienta. Funcionará en la forma más
eficiente a la velocidad para la cuál se diseñó.
• Mantenga las manos alejadas de las partes movibles y de
las superficies de esmerilado.
• Nunca deje desatendida una herramienta en funcionamiento.
Desconéctela y no abandone el lugar hasta que se haya
detenido por completo.
• No trate de alcanzar demasiado lejos. Manténgase firme y
equilibrado.
• Nunca se pare sobre la herramienta. Se pueden producir
lesiones graves si la herramienta se vuelca o hace contacto
con la correa o el disco.
• Conozca su herramienta. Aprenda a manejar la herramienta,
su aplicación y limitaciones específicas.
• Use los accesorios recomendados. Si se usan accesorios
incorrectos, puede sufrir lesiones o lesionar a alguien.
• Maneje la pieza de trabajo en forma correcta.
MONTAJE
Consulte las Figuras 2-3 en las páginas ? a 1?.
ADVERTENCIA: NO montaje la esmeriladora de banco hasta
que esté seguro que:
• La herramienta NO ESTE enchufada.
• El interruptor de energía esté en la pocisión de “APAGADO”
(OFF).
• Las ruedas esmeriladoras estén FIRMEMENTE APRETADAS
a la esmeriladora de banco.
PORTAHERRAMIENTAS
Consulte la Figura 2.
La esmeriladora de banco viene equipada con dos conjuntos
distintos de portaherramientas. El portaherramienta izquierdo es
completamente plano. El portaherramienta derecho también es
plano.
• Montar el soporte de la portaherramientas (A) en el interior
de las cubiertas de rueda (B) con las arrandelas planas (C) y
los tornillos de cabeza hexagonal (D) según lo ilustrado.

• Montar los portaherramientas (E) a los soportes (A) utilizando las arandelas planas (F) y las perillas de ajuste (G) según
lo ilustrado.
• Ajuste cada el portaherramienta hasta que su borde interno
es a
1
⁄16 ” de la rueda de esmerilado. Apriete firmemente los
tornillos de cabeza hexagonal que sostienen los soportes.
• Instale la placa de afilado de brocas (H) aflojando la perilla
de ajuste del lado derecho hasta que aproximadamente
1
⁄4”
de las roscas queden visibles. Coloque la placa sobre el portaherramientas derecho y sobre las roscas visibles. La arandela plana debe colocarse entre la placa y la perilla de
ajuste. Apriete la perilla de ajuste.
IMPORTANTE: La placa de afilado de brocas SÓLO debe utilizarse para el afilado de brocas espirales.
PROTECTORES DE CHISPAS Y ESCUDOS OCULARES
• Montaje los protectores de chispas (A) a la superficie interior de las cubiertas de ruedas (B) con las arandelas planas
(C) y los tornillos de cabeza hexagonal (D) según lo ilustrado.
• Ajuste cada los protectores de chispas hasta que sus bordes
inferiores estén a
1
⁄16 ” de la ruedas de rectificación. Apriete
los tornillos de cabeza hexagonal firmemente.
• Montaje el escudo ocular (E) al protector de chispa (A)
mediante la inserción del tornillo de carrocería (F) al escudo
ocular, luego a través del protector de chispa y luego a
través del espaciador (G) según lo ilustrado.
• Montaje la arrandela plana (H) y la perilla de cierre (I) al
tornillo de carrocería ya apriételo hasta que el escudo ocular
permanezca en la posición deseada.
LUZ DE TRABAJO
La esmeriladora de banco está equipada con una luz de trabajo flexible para ayudar en la visibilidad del material.
La esmeriladora de banco viene equipada con una bombilla
para la luz de trabajo flexible. Atornille el bulbo en la cubierta.
ADVERTENCIA: Para reducir el riesgo de incendio, utilice
una bombilla para luz de carril de 120 voltios, 25 vatios or
menor, tipo S11, base intermedia o su equivalente. NO utilice
una bombilla que se extienda más allá del extremo de la pantalla.
ATENCIÓN: El alojamiento de la luz de trabajo flexible per-
manecerá caliente por algunos minutos después de haberla
“APAGADO” (OFF). Evite el contacto con dicho alojamiento
hasta que se enfríe.
INSTALACION
MONTAJE DE LA ESMERILADORA
La esmeriladora debe montarse en una superficie sólida horizontal (piezas no incluidas). Para montar la esmeriladora en un
pedestal metálico:
• Alinee los agujeros de montaje con los agujeros correspon dientes en el pedestal.
• Inserte un perno de cabeza hexagonal de ¼-20 x 1¼” con
una arandela plana a través de la base de la esmeriladora.
• Coloque en el perno una arandela plana de ¼” y una tuerca hexagonal de ¼”-20 desde la parte inferior del pedestal.
• Apriete hasta que la base esté al ras con el pedestal.
• Coloque una segunda tuerca en cada perno y contraapriete
ésta contra la primera tuerca para impedir que la primera
tuerca se afloje debido a las vibraciones.
Para montar la esmeriladora en un banco de madera:
• Utilice tornillos para madera de ¼ x 1¼” con arandelas
planas debajo de los cabezales.
• Apriete los tornillos hasta que la base esté al ras con la
superficie superior del banco.
INSTRUCCIONES PARA LA CONEXION A TIERRA
ADVERTENCIA: Si no se conecta correctamente el conduc-
tor a tierra del equipo, se corre el riesgo de un electrochoque.
El equipo debe estar conectado a tierra mientras se usa para
proteger al operador de un electrochoque.
• Si no comprende las instrucciones de conexión a tierra o
tiene dudas en cuanto a si la herramienta está correctamente conectada a tierra, consulte a un electricista calificado.
• A fin de protegerlo contra una descarga eléctrica, esta
herra mienta está equipada con un cable de tres conductores
aprobado y clasificado para 150 V, así como con un
enchufe de tres clavijas tipo conexión a tierra (Figura 4).
• El enchufe de conexión a tierra deberá conectarse directamente a un zócalo para 3 clavijas instalado y conectado
debidamente a tierra, tal como se muestra en la Figura 4.
• No retire ni modifique en forma alguna la punta de conexión a tierra. En caso de un mal funcionamiento o una
avería, la conexión a tierra proporciona una ruta de menor
resistencia para la descarga eléctrica.
ADVERTENCIA: Al conectar o desconectar el enchufe del
tomacorriente, no permita que los dedos toquen los terminales
o el enchufe.
• El enchufe debe conectarse en el tomacorriente correspondiente que haya sido instalado y conectado a tierra debidamente, de acuerdo con todos los códigos y regulaciones
locales. No modifique el enchufe que se incluye. Si no cabe
en el tomacorriente, solicite a un electricista calificado que
instale un tomacorriente adecuado.

• Revise periódicamente los cordones de la herramienta y si
están dañados, llévelos a un centro de servicio autorizado
para que los reparen.
• El conductor verde (o verde y amarillo) del cordón es el
cable de conexión a tierra. Si es necesario reparar o reemplazar el cordón eléctrico o el enchufe, no conecte el cable
verde (o verde y amarillo) a un terminal cargado.
• Si se cuenta únicamente con un tomacorriente de dos puntas, éste deberá ser reemplazado con un tomacorriente de
tres puntas debidamente conectado a tierra e instalado de
acuerdo con las Normas para Instalaciones Eléctricas
(National Electric Code) y los códigos y regulaciones locales.
ADVERTENCIA: Esta tarea deberá ser realizada por un elec-
tricista calificado.
• Se puede usar temporalmente un adaptador de 3 puntas a
2 puntas con conexión a tierra (véase la Figura 5) para
conectar los enchufes a un tomacorriente bipolar que esté
correctamente puesto a tierra.
• No utilice este tipo de adaptadores a menos que esté permitido por los códigos y regulaciones nacionales y locales (en
Canadá no se permite usar adaptadores de 3 puntas a 2
puntas con conexión a tierra). Cuando esté permitido utilizar
este tipo de adaptadores, la lengüeta rígida de color verde o
el terminal en el lado del adaptador deberán estar bien

• Muchos de los tornillos de la plancha de cubierta, las
tuberías de agua y las cajas de tomacorriente no están
debidamente conectados a tierra. Para garantizar que la
conexión a tierra sea efectiva, un electricista calificado debe
verificar los medios de conexión a tierra.
CORDONES DE EXTENSION
• El uso de cualquier tipo de cordón de extensión ocasionará
una caída en el voltaje y una pérdida de potencia.
• Los hilos del cordón de extensión deben tener el calibre
suficiente para conducir la corriente y mantener el voltaje
correcto.
• Utilice la mesa para determinar el tamaño mínimo del
cordón de extensión (AWG).
• Utilice únicamente cordones de extensión trifilares que tengan enchufes tipo conexión a tierra de tres puntas y receptáculos tripolares que acepten el enchufe de la herramienta.
• Si el cordón de extensión está desgastado, roto o dañado

CONEXIONES ELECTRICAS

OPERACION
INSTRUCCIONES DE SEGURIDAD ESPECIFICAS
PARA LAS ESMERILADORAS DE BANCO
El uso de cualquier esmeriladora puede expulsar escombros
hacia los ojos durante las operaciones, lo que puede causar
daño ocular grave y permanente. UTILICE PROTECCIÓN
OCULAR SIEMPRE. El uso de cualquier herramienta mecánica
puede expulsar escombros durante las operaciones, lo que
puede causar daño ocular grave y permanente. Los anteojos
cotidianos NO son gafas de seguridad. Utilice Gafas de
Seguridad (que cumplan con la normativa Z87.1 de ANSI)
SIEMPRE cuando vaya a operar herramientas mecánicas. Las
gafas de seguridad están disponibles en las tiendas de Ventas
al Detal de Menard’s.
Deben seguirse ciertas precauciones básicas durrante el uso de
su esmeriladora. Para reducir el riesgo de heridas, choques
eléctricos o incendios, cumpla con las reglas de seguridad que
aparecen a continuación:
• UTILICE SIEMPRE LOS PROTECTORES OCULARES Y DE
RUEDA suministrados con la esmeriladora.
• REPONGA INMEDIATAMENTE CUALQUIER RUEDA DE
ESMERILADO AGRIETADA O DAÑADA. Una rueda dañada puede descargar escombros a alta velocidad en la dirección del operario. Maneje las ruedas esmerilados con cuidado, ya que son abrasantes. Antes de reemplazar la rueda de
esmerilado, revise por si existen grietas. NO QUITE el
secante o la etiqueta en ambos lados de la rueda de esmerilado. Apriete la tuerca del eje justo lo suficiente como para
sujetar la rueda de esmerilado firmemente a la esmeriladora
de banco. No apriete la tuerca excesivamente. La fuerza
abrazadora excesive puede dañar la rueda de esmerilado.
Sólo utilice las pestañas de rueda proporcionadas con la
esmeriladora. Cuando vaya a seleccionar una rueda de
resmerilado de repuesto, compruebe que la rueda de
esmerilado tiene una notación de R.P.M. más alta que las
R.P.M. máximas de la esmeriladora de banco.
• EL DIAMETRO DE LAS RUEDAS DE ESMERILADORAS
SE REDUCIRA CON EL USO. Ajuste los portaherramientas
y los protectores de chispas para conservar una distancia de
1
⁄16 ” de la rueda.
• NO SE INCORPORE EN FRENTE DE LA ESMERILADO-
RA DE BANCO CUANDO VAYA A ENCENDERLA.
Incorpórese a un lado de la esmeriladora de banco y
“ENCIÉNDALA” (ON). Espere al lado hasta que la esmeriladora alcance plena velocidad. Siempre existe la posibilidad de
que los escombros de una rueda de esmerilado dañada
puedan descargarse hacia el operario.
• LA ESMERILADORA DE BANCO PRODUCIRA CHISPAS
Y ESCOMBROS DURANTE LAS OPERACIONES DE
ESMERILADO. Asegúrese que no existan materiales inflam-
ables en las cercanías. Limpie el polvo residual de la rectificación de la parte posterior de la esmeriladora de banco.
• JAMAS FUERCE EL MATERIAL CONTRA LA RUEDA DE
ESMERILADO, especialmente si la rueda se encuentra fría.
Aplique el material lentamente, permitiendo que la rueda de
esmerilado tenga la oportunidad de calentarse. Esto reducirá
la posibilidad de ruptura de la rueda. NO rectifique utilizando los lados de las ruedas de esmeriladoras. NO aplique
refrigerante directamente sobre la rueda de esmerilado.

Forme el hábito de la comprobación para ver que las llaves
y las llaves del ajuste están quitadas de la herramienta antes
de girarla.
• DIRECCIÓN DE LA ALIMENTACIÓN . Alimente el trabajo
en una lámina o un cortador contra la rotación de la lámina
o un cortador solamente.
• UTILICE LA HERRAMIENTA DERECHA. No fuerce la her-

FUNCIONAMIENTO DE LA ESMERILADORA DE
BANCO
La esmeriladora de banco está diseñada para las operaciones
manuales de esmerilado, afilado y limpieza.
¡UTILICE PROTECCION OCULAR SIEMPRE! Se producen
chispas calientes durante las operaciones de esmerilado.
El afilado y la eliminación de metal pueden llevarse a cabo en
el lado derecho de la esmeriladora de banco a través del uso
de la rueda de esmerilado. Se puede realizar la limpieza de las
superficies de metal utilizando la rueda de alambre situada al
lado izquierdo de la esmeriladora de banco.
CUADRO DE VELOCIDADES DE RECTIFICACION
• El interruptor debe estar en posición de “APAGADO” (OFF) y
el interruptor de velocidad variable debe estar en la posición
de más lenta, esto se logra girándolo completamente a la
izquierda hasta sentir el tope de resistencia.
• Incorpórese al lado de la esmeriladora de banco y enchufe
el cordón de energía a un tomacorrientes apropriado.
• Permanezca al lado de la esmeriladora de banco y
“ENCIÉNDALA” (ON) moviendo el interruptor de potencia
a la posición de arriba.
• Permita que las ruedas de esmeriladoras alcancen una
velocidad estable durante por lo menos un minuto. Entonces,
las revoluciones por minuto (R.P.M.) de la esmeriladora de
banco podrán irse incrementando hasta llegar a la velocidad
deseada para cada operación en particular mediante la
rotación hacia la derecha del interruptor de velocidad variable.
• Ajuste los escudos oculares. Coloque el material sobre el
portaherramientas adecuado para el funcionamiento deseado.
• Mueva el material hacia la rueda esmeriladora hasta tocarla
ligeramente. Mueva el material con acción de vaivén a lo
largo de la superficie de la rueda de esmerilado, quitando la
cantidad de material deseado.
ADVERTENCIA: Para evitar lesiones graves, jamás rectifique
en los lados de las ruedas de esmeriladoras.
• Si la placa afiladora de brocas ya ha sido instalado, coloque
la broca sobre la muesca en forma de “V”. Sostenga firmemente en el soporte de broca. Deslice la broca hacia la
rueda de tritura de tal manera que apenas toque. Mantenga
la broca firme contra la placa y gírela.
• Después de completar las operaciones de esmerilado,
apague el banco de esmerilado presionando el interruptor.
ATENCIÓN: Las ruedas de esmeriladoras tardarán unos
momentos en llegar a un alto total.
• Gire el interruptor de velocidad variable en el sentido contrario a las agujas del reloj para devolverlo a sur fijación
más baja.
• Evite el contacto con la carcasa hasta que se haya enfriado.
Desenchufe la esmeriladora de banco de la fuente de potencia.
NOTA: Para impedir el uso desautorizado de la esmeriladora
de banco, el interruptor de potencia cuenta con una llave de
cierre desmontable. Con el interruptor en la posición de “APAGADO” (OFF), saque la llave de cierre. La esmeriladora de
banco no podrá “ENCENDERSE” (ON) con la llave fuera de su
sitio. Inserte la llave de cierre para reanudar las operaciones de
esmerilado.

MANTENIMIENTO
ADVERTENCIA: “Apague” (off) el interruptor de energía y
desenchufe el cordón de energía de su fuente de potencia
antes de realizar cualquier mantenimiento.
LUBRICACION
La esmeriladora de banco tiene cojinetes de lubricación
sellados en la carcasa del motor que no requieren
lubricación adicional por parte del operario.
LIMPIEZA
Con la esmeriladora de banco desenchufada, gire las ruedas
abrasantes lentamente e inspeccione por si existe cualquier
daño o virutas atrapadas.
ATENCIÓN: REPONGA las ruedas abrasantes si existe
cualquier daño. EL DEJAR de reemplazar una rueda dañada
puede ocasionar lesionamiento grave al operario.
ATENCIÓN: NO UTILICE MATERIALES INFLAMABLES
para limpiar la esmeriladora de banco. Todo lo que se
necesita para quitar la acumulación de polvo y escombros
es una paño seco y limpio o un cepillo.
ADVERTENCIA: Las reparaciones a la esmerilaadora de
banco deben ser realizados por personal capacitado solamente.
Las reparaciones desautorizadas o el reemplazo con piezas que
no sean de fábrica podrán dar lugar a lesionamiento grave al
operario y dañar la esmeriladora de banco.
UTILIZANDO EL ACABADOR DE RUEDA
El acabador de rueda debe utilizarse sobre las ruedas de
esmeriladoras, y servirá para quitar la acumulación de material
sobre la rueda de esmerilado, quitando las imperfecciones y
cuadrando las esquinas de la rueda de esmerilado.
NO utilice el Acabador de Rueda en la Rueda de Alambre.
• Asegúrese de que el portaherramientas derecho se encuentre
en la posición horizontal plana, y a
1
⁄16 ” de la rueda esmeri-
ladora.
• “ENCIENDA” (ON) la esmeriladora de banco. Permita que la
rueda de esmerilado alcance una velocidad constante por
espacio de un minuto.
• Una vez que la rueda de esmerilado haya adquirido una
velocidad constante, coloque el acabador de Rrueda de
manera plana sobre el portaherramientas con las ruedas
dentadas apuntando hacia la rueda de esmerilado.
• Sostenga la asidera del acabador de rueda con firmeza.
• Mueva el acabador de rueda hacia adelante hasta que las
ruedas dentadas hagan contacto ligero con la rueda de
esmerilado. Una vez logrado el contacto, deslice el acabador
de rueda de un lado al otro del portaherramientas para
acabar la rueda de esmerilado hasta que el borde de la
rueda de esmerilado quede cuadrada y la superficie quede
limpia.
• Después de que el operario haya concluido el acabado de la
rueda de esmerilado, “APAGUE” (OFF) la emeriladora de
banco y permita que la rueda de esmerilado se detenga por
completo.
• Inspeccione la rueda de esmerilado por si existen señales de
daño.
• La rueda de esmerilado podrá tener ahora menor diámetro
después del acabado. Reajuste los portaherramientas y protectores de chispas para conservar un espacio libre de

a la rueda de esmerilado.
CAMBIANDO LA RUEDA DE ESMERILADO
Debido al desgaste normal, será necesario reemplazar ambas
ruedas ocasionalmente.
• “APAGUE” (off) el interruptor de potencia y desenchufe el
cordón de potencia de su fuente de suministro.
• Gire el escudo ocular hacia arriba para obtener acceso al
portaherramientas.
• Afloje la perilla del portaherramientas y gire el
portaherramientas hasta alejarlo de la rueda esmerilado.
• Afloje la perilla de liberación rápida (A) contra el sentido de
las agujas del reloj para quitar la perilla completamente del
protector.
• Gire la cubierta de rueda de recambio rápido (B) hacia atrás
aproximadamente
1
⁄4” para liberarla del protector de pueda
interior (C).
• Coloque una llave de boca abierta (no incluida), sobre la
tuerca hexagonal del árbol (D). Coloque el extremo cerrado
de la llave especial, partes planas del eje del árbol (E).
AVISO: La tuerca hexagonal izquierda del árbol está roscada a
la izquierda y se le afloja girándola en el sentido de las agujas
del reloj. La tuerca hexagonal derecha del árbol está roscada a
la derecha y se le afloja girándola contra el sentido de las
agujas del reloj.
• Quite la pestaña de la rueda exterior (F) y luego la rueda
abrasante (G) del eje del árbol.
ATENCIÓN: La nueva rueda abrasante a colocarse sobre la
esmeriladora debe tener una clasificación de R.P.M. más alta
que la de la esmeriladora (3450 R.P.M.). La nueva rueda abrasante debe tener el diámetro de rueda externo correcto y el
mismo diámetro de ánima que las ruedas originales. La etiqueta en el costado de la rueda abrasante debe permanecer en
su sitio. NO QUITE esta etiqueta.
• Reponga la rueda abrasante, pestaña de la rueda exterior y
tuerca hexagonal del árbol.
AVISO: La tuerca hexagonal izquierda del árbol está roscada a
la izquierda y se le afloja girándola contra el sentido de las
agujas del reloj. La tuerca hexagonal derecha del árbol está
roscada a la derecha y se le afloja girándola en el sentido de
las agujas del reloj.
ATENCIÓN: NO APRIETE EXCESIVAMENTE la tuerca
hexagonal del árbol, ya que esto puede dañar la rueda abrasante y resultar en heridas graves al operario.

RUEDA DE ALAMBRE O RUEDA PULIMENTADORA
Se puede hacer uso de una rueda de alambre o rueda pulimentadora (A) con su esmeriladora. Según el grosor de la
rueda, deberá añadir uno o más espaciadores para permitir
que la tuerca hexagonal del árbol se apriete correctamente.
Estos espaciadores son idénticos entre sí. La Figura 7 muestra
la colocación correcta de los espaciadores (B) y (C).
AVISO: Un espaciador (B) siempre debe ir primero sobre el eje
del árbol. El segundo espaciador (C), de ser necesario, irá al
lado de la tuerca hexagonal del árbol (D) según lo ilustrado.
Utilice siempre las pestañas de rueda (E) que vinieron con la
rectificadora tanto para la rueda de alambre como las rueda
pulimentadoras. Ver la sección CAMBIANDO LA RUEDA
ESMERILADO para el procedimiento correcto de cambio de
ruedas.
