WARNING: Dust that is created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and

other construction activities may contain chemicals that are known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other genetic abnormalities. These chemicals include:

• Lead from lead-based paints

• Crystalline silica from bricks, cement, and other masonry products

• Arsenic and chromium from chemically treated lumber

The level of risk from exposure to these chemicals varies, according to how often this type of work is performed. In order to reduce exposure to these chemicals, work in a well-ventilated area, and use approved safety equipment, such as a dust mask that is specically designed to lter out microscopic particles.

Electrical safety

WARNING: To avoid electrical hazards, re hazards or damage to the tool, use

proper circuit protection.

This tool is wired at the factory for 120 V AC operation. It must be connected to a 120 V AC, 15 A circuit that is protected by a time-delayed fuse or circuit breaker. To avoid shock or re, replace power cord immediately if it is worn, cut or damaged in any way.

Power tool safety

WARNING: Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the

warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, re and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

Work area safety

Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.

Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of ammable

liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.

SAFETY GUIDELINES

Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose

control.

Electrical safety

Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodied plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of

electric shock.

Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.

Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the

risk of electric shock.

Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the

risk of electric shock.

When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.

If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protected supply. Use of a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) reduces the risk of electric

shock.

Personal safety

Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do

not use a power tool while you are tired or under the inuence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.

Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.

Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your nger on

the switch or energizing power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.

Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.

Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.

Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

Power tool use and care

Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool

will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.

Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.

Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety

measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.

Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands

of untrained users.

Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less

likely to bind and are easier to control.

Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for

operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

SAFETY GUIDELINES

Hold power tools by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where cutting tool may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Contact with a “live” wire will make exposed metal parts

of the tool “live” and shock the operator.

Service

Have your power tool serviced by a qualied repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.

Specic safety rules

WARNING: Know your rotary tool. Do not plug the rotary tool into the power

source until you have read and understand this Instruction Manual. Learn the tool’s applications

and limitations, as well as the specic potential hazards related to this tool. Following this rule will reduce the risk of electric shock, re, or serious injury.

Always wear eye protection. Any power tool can throw foreign objects into your eyes and cause permanent eye damage. ALWAYS wear safety goggles (not glasses) that comply with ANSI safety standard Z87.1. Everyday glasses have only impact resistant lenses. They ARE NOT safety glasses.

WARNING: Glasses or goggles not in compliance with ANSI Z87.1 could cause

serious injury when they break.

Always make sure the work surface is free from nails and other foreign objects. Cutting into a nail can cause the bit and the tool to jump and damage the bit.

Never hold the workpiece in one hand and the tool in the other hand when in use. Never place the hands near or below the cutting surface. Clamping the material and guiding the tool with both hands is much safer.

Never lay the workpiece on hard surfaces like concrete, stone, etc. The protruding cutting bit may cause tool to jump.

Always wear safety goggles and a dust mask. Use only in well-ventilated areas. Using personal safety devices and working in a safe environment reduces risk of injury.

After changing the bits and accessories or making adjustments, make sure the collet nut and any other adjustment devices are securely tightened. Loose adjustment devices will be violently thrown.

Always use the correct collet size. If the collet size is larger than the accessory shank size it will not grip the shank properly, leading to possible injury to the operator or damage to the tool.

Always check accessory bits, grinding stones, cut-off wheels etc. for damage before each use. Damaged accessories can break during use and cause serious injury.

Never use dull or damaged bits. Sharp bits must be handled with care. Damaged bits can snap during use. Dull bits require more force to push the tool, possibly causing the bit to break.

Never touch the bit during or immediately after use. After use the bit is too hot to be touched by bare hands.

Accessories must be rated for at least the speed recommended on the tool warning label. Wheels and other accessories running over rated speed can y apart and cause injury.

SAFETY GUIDELINES

Extension cord safety

WARNING: Keep the extension cord clear of the working area. Position the cord

so it will not get caught on the workpiece, tools or any other obstructions while you are working with the power tool.

Make sure any extension cord used with this tool is in good condition. When using an extension cord, be sure to use one of heavy enough gauge to carry the current the tool will draw. An undersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating.

The table below shows the correct size to use according to cord length and nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use the next heavier gauge. The smaller the gauge number the heavier the cord.

Be sure your extension cord is properly wired and in good condition. Always replace a damaged extension cord or have it repaired by a qualied electrician before using it. Protect your extension cord from sharp objects, excessive heat and damp or wet areas.

Use a separate electrical circuit for your power tools. This circuit must not be less than 14 gauge wire and should be protected with either a 15 A time delayed fuse or circuit breaker. Before connecting the power tool to the power source, make sure the switch is in the OFF position and the power source is the same as indicated on the nameplate. Running at lower voltage will damage the motor.

Engraving Cutter For detail engraving, carving and routing in wood, breglass, plastic

steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, red ceramics, plastics, hard woods and other hard materials.

NOTE: This Rotary Tool is also compatible to most accessories and attachments provided by other leading brands.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

ON/OFF & Speed control switch

Both the ON/OFF and speed control functions are controlled by one switch (1) located on the top of the tool (g. 1).

To turn the tool ON, slide the switch to the left. To turn the tool OFF, slide the switch to the right.

To increase the speed, turn the tool ON and continue to slide the switch to the left. To decrease the speed, slide the switch to the right.

Changing the collet

Some accessories require the use of different sized collets. Collet sizes can be 1/16", 3/32" and 1/8". It is important to ensure that the collet size matches the accessory. NOTE: This tool includes the most commonly used collets: 1/16", 3/32" and 1/8".

WARNING: Using a collet that

is too large for the accessory will result in the accessory possibly being thrown from the tool causing serious injury.

1. Turn the tool switch OFF and remove the plug from the power source.

2. Depress the spindle lock button (1) and slowly turn the collet nut (2) until the spindle lock button locks the spindle (4) (g. 2).

3. While holding the spindle lock button down, turn the collet nut counter-clockwise until it is removed.

4. Remove the collet (3) by pulling it out of the spindle.

5. Insert the replacement collet into the spindle and replace the collet nut by turning it clockwise while holding the spindle lock button down. NOTE: Do not tighten the collet nut without an accessory installed in the collet. You will damage the collet.

Installing accessories

1. Turn the switch OFF and disconnect the tool from the power source.

2. Depress the spindle lock button (1) and slowly turn the collet nut (2) until the spindle lock button locks the spindle (g. 3).

3. While holding the spindle lock button down, turn the collet nut counter-clockwise until the collet is loose inside the collet nut.

4. Insert accessory (3) into collet.

NOTES: a) Make sure the correct collet is used for the accessory. If collet is too large, replace the collet with the next smaller size. b) Insert accessory at least 3/4" into the collet.

5. Press the spindle lock button and engage it in the spindle. While holding the spindle lock button down, hand-tighten the collet by turning it clockwise. NOTE: Do not use pliers to tighten the collet nut. Use the small wrench (4) supplied. Over tightening will cause damage to the tool.

6. Pull on the accessory to ensure it is securely in place.

Installing the right angle attachment

1. Remove the nose nut (1) from the tool by turning it counter-clockwise (g. 4).

2. Remove the collet nut (2) and collet (3) from the spindle (4).

3. Insert the short end of the drive shaft (5) into the motor spindle (6) until the stopper (7) touches the shaft (g. 5).

4. Slide the collet nut (8) over the drive shaft (9) and thread it onto the motor spindle by turning the collet nut clockwise. Tighten the collet nut using the collet wrench. NOTE: Press the spindle locking button (10) inward to lock the spindle while loosening or tightening the collet nut.

5. Remove the right angle attachment adapter (11) and collar (12) from the right angle attachment (13) by turning the collar counter-clockwise.

6. Insert the attachment adapter through the mounting collar and thread it onto the threaded nose nut mounting (14) by turning the right angle attachment adaptor clockwise. NOTE: Only tighten by hand. Do NOT use pliers or wrench.

7. Insert the end of the drive shaft into the hole in the right angle attachment (15). NOTE: Rotate the right angle attachment collet nut (16) as you push the right angle attachment onto the adaptor until the square end of the drive shaft inserts into the matching square in the right angle attachment.

8. When the drive shaft is fully engaged into the right angle attachment, lock the right angle attachment to the adaptor by turning the adaptor collar clockwise. NOTE: Only tighten by hand. DO NOT use pliers or wrench.

9. To change collet and accessories in the right angle attachment, follow the basic procedures as outlined for the rotary tool (g. 3). To lock the spindle, rotate the collet nut (16) until you can insert the L-key (17) into the hole in the shaft (18) (g. 6).

Installing the right angle cutting guide

The right angle cutting guide is used to hold the tool at a consistent right angle to the workpiece while cutting or grinding. It allows the rotary tool to be used in a similar manner to a router.

1. Remove the nose nut (1) from the tool by turning it counter-clockwise (g. 7).

2. Install the appropriate bit in the tool (2) (g. 3).

3. Install the cutting guide (3) on the tool by turning the base (4) clockwise onto the threaded portion of the tool spindle (5). NOTE: DO NOT over-tighten.

4. To set the cutting depth, loosen height adjusting screw (6), slide the tool up or down in the base to the appropriate cutting depth and retighten the screw. NOTE: Do NOT over-tighten screw.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Have you read “GENERAL SAFETY WARNINGS”, “POWER TOOL SAFETY”, “SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES”, “EXTENSION CORD SAFETY” and “SYMBOLS” on pages 5 through 12 of this Instruction Manual? If not, please do it now before you operate this rotary tool. Your safety depends on it!

Every time you use the rotary tool you should verify the following:

1. The accessory is in good condition and not damaged in any way.

2. The workpiece is properly secured.

3. Safety glasses are being worn.

Failure to adhere to these safety rules can greatly increase the chances of injury.

MAINTENANCE

Replacing carbon motor brushes

The carbon motor brushes will wear down and require replacing. The time intervals between replacements will vary depending upon the working environment and the hours of use. It is recommended that the brushes be checked after each 10 hours of use. When the length of the carbon brush reaches 1/4" (6.35 mm), the brushes should be replaced.

WARNING: Unplug the tool

from the power source.

1. Use a 3/16" (5 mm) slot screwdriver and remove one brush cap (1) (g. 8). Turn the brush cap counter clockwise to remove it from the motor housing.

2. Pull the spring & brush assembly (2) from the brush holder (3) in the motor housing (4).

3. Insert the new spring & brush assembly into the motor housing.

4. Compress the spring into the brush holder and thread the brush cap back into the motor housing. NOTE: Make sure the brush cap threads are not cross-threaded. Do NOT over tighten.

5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 to replace the second carbon brush located on the opposite side of the motor housing.

WARNING: When servicing,

use only identical replacement parts. Use of any other part may create a hazard or cause product damage.

DO NOT abuse power tools. Abusive practices can damage the tool as well as the workpiece.

WARNING: DO NOT attempt

to modify tools or create accessories. Any such alteration or modication is misuse and could result in a hazardous condition leading to possible serious injury. It will also void the warranty.

Cleaning

DO NOT use solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use. Use a clean cloth to remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc.

WARNING: Do not at any time

allow brake uids, gasoline, petroleum-based products, penetrating oils, etc. to come in contact with plastic parts. They contain chemicals that can damage, weaken or destroy plastic.

It has been found that electric tools are subjected to accelerated wear and possible premature failure when they are used on berglass boats and sports cars, wallboard, spackling compounds or plaster. The chips and grindings from these materials are highly abrasive to electric tool parts such as bearings, brushes, switches, etc. Consequently, it is not recommended that this tool be used for extended work on any berglass material, wallboard, spackling compounds or plaster. During any use on these materials it is extremely important that the tool be cleaned frequently by blowing out with an air jet.

WARNING: Always wear

safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields during all operations. It is critical that you also wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields and a dust mask while blowing dust out of the rotary tool with an air jet. Failure to take these safety precautions could result in permanent eye or lung damage.

Lubrication

All of the bearings in this rotary tool are lubricated with a sufcient amount of high-grade lubricant for the life of the unit under normal conditions. Therefore, no further lubrication is required.

This warranty will not apply to normal deterioration of the exterior nish, such as, including but not limited to, scratches, dents, paint chips, or to any corrosion or discolouring by heat, abrasive and chemical cleaners; and i. This warranty will not apply to component parts sold by and identied as the product of another company, which shall be covered under that product manufacturer’s warranty, if any.

Additional Limitations

This warranty applies only to the original purchaser, and cannot be transferred. Neither the retailer nor the manufacturer shall be liable for any other expense, loss or damage, including, but not limited to, any indirect, incidental, consequential or exemplary damages arising in connection with the sale, use or inability to use this product.

This Mastercraft

product is guaranteed for a period of three years from the date of original retail

purchase against defects in workmanship and materials, except for the following components:

a. Component A: Batteries, chargers and carrying case, which are guaranteed for a period of two

years from the date of original retail purchase against defects in workmanship and materials;

b. Component B: Accessories, which are guaranteed for a period of one year from the date of original

retail purchase against defects in workmanship and materials.

Subject to the conditions and limitations described below, this product, if returned to us with proof of purchase within the stated warranty period and if covered under this warranty, will be repaired or replaced (with the same model, or one of equal value or specication), at our option. We will bear the cost of any repair or replacement and any costs of labour relating thereto.

These warranties are subject to the following conditions and limitations:

a. A bill of sale verifying the purchase and the purchase date must be provided; b. This warranty will not apply to any product or part thereof that is worn, broken or that has become

inoperative due to abuse, misuse, accidental damage, neglect or lack of proper installation, operation or maintenance (as outlined in the applicable owner’s manual or operating instructions) or that is being used for industrial, professional, commercial or rental purposes;

c. This warranty will not apply to normal wear and tear or to expendable parts or accessories that

may be supplied with the product and that are expected to become inoperative or unusable after a reasonable period of use;

d. This warranty will not apply to routine maintenance and consumable items such as, but not limited

to, fuel, lubricants, vacuum bags, blades, belts, sandpaper, bits, uids, tune-ups or adjustments;

e. This warranty will not apply where damage is caused by repairs made or attempted by others (i.e.:

persons not authorized by the manufacturer);

f. This warranty will not apply to any product that was sold to the original purchaser as a

reconditioned or refurbished product (unless specied otherwise in writing);
