Highly versatile

New generation Tier III diesel engines lie at the heart of the MF 5400 Series, providing high torque and great fuel economy over a wide range of engine

speeds. Massey Ferguson’s unique and ultimately efﬁcient Power Control allows for maximum output and productivity.

Quality is apparent throughout these machines, nowhere more so than in the MF Electronic Linkage Control – a classic example of high accuracy combined with simplicity of operation. 01 Front linkage and PTO can

MF 5425 – now turbocharged to provide 82 hp, with intercooled mechanical fuel injection

MF 5435 – also turbocharged, but with intercooled mechanical injection. Power output 92 hp.

MF 5445 & 5455 – both now incorporate the same advanced engine technology as Massey Ferguson’s higher horsepower models, Electronic common rail injection and 16 valves combine to deliver 95 hp and 105 hp respectively, with power boost in 3rd and 4th gear.

High-performance engines

All 4-cylinder models feature a ‘cross-ﬂow’ cylinder head, which improves combustion, giving lower fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. More precise fuel injection helps to reduce fuel consumption and gives high power and torque across a wide operating range, giving excellent economy and performance in a variety of day-to-day tasks.

Power and torque

Max power is achieved at 2000 rpm’s, resulting in useful fuel savings and lower noise

levels. In fact, these tractors have excellent power delivery capabilities across an impressively wide rev range, with a constant power range of at least 400 revs.

Reassuring torque back-up means a drop in engine speed pulling away under load, or in headland turn manoeuvres, is countered with ease and in safety.

Dynashift changes in each range

Dyna-4 provides a smooth, 4-speed Dynashift change in each of the four gears so you have powershift ﬂexibility over a wide speed range, giving maximum ﬁeld performance. With the capability of both Dynashift and range changes,

without the need to use the clutch pedal, Dyna-4 is exceptionally easy to use. And with a choice of either left- or right-hand control, there’s real operating ﬂexibility to suit different applications and driver preference.

Left-hand control

The left-hand Power Control lever provides convenient forward/ reverse shuttle, powershift changes and ﬁngertip declutching, leaving the right hand free to operate the loader or rear implements.

Right-hand control Simply move the T-shaped gear lever forwards or backwards to change up or down through the four Dynashift ratios. To change range, simply press the range selection button as you move the lever. When changing range, Speedmatching automatically selects the correct Dyna-4 ratio to match the tractor’s forward speed.

Comfort control

In front of the LED display is a rotary ‘Comfort Control’ switch. This allows the operator to adjust the rate of engagement of forward/ reverse shuttle selection. So for loader work, a fairly aggressive setting speeds up cycle times and gives maximum productivity, while a gentler setting offers smooth yet almost immediate direction changes when shuttling.

Highly speciﬁed 3-point linkage

The high lift capacity means that heavy mounted equipment can be lifted with ease. A variety of hitches is available, with twin telescopic stabilisers and two spool valves ﬁtted as standard. Fender-mounted switches provide convenient linkage height adjustment for fast, easy implement attachment.

Simple, effective hydraulic system

With 57 litre/min of oil available for linkage and external hydraulic functions, there is plenty of ﬂow and pressure to cater for lifting heavy equipment or powering ancillary accessories.

100 litre ‘combined’ ﬂow

Available as an option on all models, 100 litre/min oil ﬂow is achieved by combining the ﬂow from two hydraulic pumps. At the ﬂick of a switch, the 3-point linkage is ‘locked out’ and the higher ﬂow is made available to give extra speed and power for loader operation.

Fade-free braking

The rear axle houses large disc brakes with constant pressure lubrication, providing reassuring, fade-free stopping power.

Differential locks

At the touch of a button, simultaneous actuation of front and rear differential locks also ensures maximum traction at all times. The ‘Hydralock’ differential lock design ensures fast, 100% engagement and disengagement of the differential locks with no slippage or loss of power, giving ‘true’ 4-wheel drive when engaged.

4-wheel drive axle

All 4-wheel drive models feature a centre-mounted drive shaft design for excellent ground clearance and a tight steering angle for manoeuvrability and tight headland turns.

Automated control

Fitted as standard on all MF 5400 series tractors, the ‘Transmission Controller’ simpliﬁes operation by partially automating a number of

frequently-used functions. These include differential lock control, PTO control and gearbox range selection.

Versatile PTO

Five PTO options are available. Independent 540/1000 rev/min is the standard system, with 540/1000 rev/min ‘economy’ offering standard PTO speeds at lower engine revs to save fuel and cut production costs. In-cab or external shiftable options plus ground speed are also available, matching virtually any farm’s requirements.

Front linkage and PTO (optional)

Using front/rear implement combinations can give real time savings - up to 30% when drilling. With a lift capacity of 2.5 tonnes and the option of an accumulator, hydraulic couplers and PTO, the MF 5400 Series front linkage system can be speciﬁed to take full advantage of these productivity gains, giving a quicker return on capital investment.

Everything about the MF 5400 Series has been designed to make your time at work comfortable and relaxing, yet highly productive.

The cab retains its popular and practical layout, with controls positioned exactly where you would expect to ﬁnd them, together with excellent comfort levels.

Low cab noise levels help to make the MF 5400 Series cabs a relaxing environment in which to spend the working day.

The spacious cab of the MF 5400 Series offers outstanding visibility, day or night.

Two wide-opening rear hinged doors make access easy. There is a choice of mechanical or air suspension seats, both with a comprehensive range of adjustments including 30 and long, adjustable armrests.

Visio-roof models offer sidemounted radio (optional) and ventilation controls.

With the optional air suspension seat, at the touch of a lever, accurate adjustment to compensate for driver weight or

Active Transport Control

Active Transport Control (ATC) is a shock-absorbing system that reduces implement ‘bounce’, which can occur when driving across the headland or transporting heavy mounted equipment.

ATC is ﬁtted as standard on all MF 5400 Series tractors, further improving driver comfort by giving a smoother ride and faster, safer transport of mounted equipment.

All essential instruments and controls are large and positioned for ease of use and at-a-glance legibility.

From the large, clear analogue instruments, the angled right-hand controls, to the ingenious ELC ‘mouse’ which ﬁts naturally in the hand, everything is just where you need it for efﬁcient, comfortable operation.

All controls are within easy reach of the operator. ELC functions (02), are set by smooth rotary controls. LED’s indicate linkage lifting and lowering. The Dyna-4 option features leftor right-hand gear selection for optimum driveability (04).

Keep your cool

The standard ventilation system has a 4-speed blower and high capacity heater with six adjustable and two ﬁxed air vents to ensure rapid heating and demisting. Air conditioning is also available on all cab models.

As an option, the ‘Visio roof’ is available on cab models. The improved view through the Visio roof means that even high lift front loaders working at full height are fully visible. A glass panel, with sunblind, also tilts and opens for extra ventilation.

As an alternative to air conditioning, an opening front screen is also available. The screen is supported on sturdy gas struts and can be locked partially or fully open for maximum air ﬂow in hot conditions.

Outstanding ‘Platform’ comfort

Sharing many of the advanced design features of the cab models, the four MF 5400 Series ‘platform’ tractors, ranging from 86 to 112 ISO hp (125 max boosted), offer outstanding performance and a high level of comfort and safety.

Meeting the most stringent noise and safety legislation, the MF 5400 Series platform models are now available in most European markets as well as countries more traditionally associated with non-cab tractors.

Options including ‘Pivot’ or ‘steep nose’ bonnet styles, centre-or side-mounted exhaust, 2- or 4-wheel drive and many more enable you to tailor your tractor to speciﬁc application needs.

For example, the steep nose models are ideally suited to front loader work or row-crop tasks. All models feature a modern, safe ﬂat-ﬂoor platform area with up-to-the-minute styling, excellent visibility and simple instruments and controls.

Gearbox options

Platform models are available with the Dyna-4 gearbox (see p6). Also, as on cab models, ‘creep’ and ‘supercreep’ gearboxes are available, to maximise compatibility and productivity in specialist low speed applications.

Simple ELC

Though highly advanced, the Massey Ferguson ELC Electronic Linkage Control System is simple, reliable and easy to use, giving exceptional accuracy and control.

With muscular lift capabilities and high capacity hydraulics, even large implements can be handled with ease.

Automatic 4-wheel braking

As on the cab models, automated control of 4-wheel drive, differential lock and PTO give optimum efﬁciency whilst minimising driver input. The electro-hydraulic system provides automatic engagement of 4-wheel drive when the brakes or

parking brake are applied. This gives 4-wheel braking, for added braking efﬁciency, stability and safety.

Hydralock differential lock

Hydralock is standard on all 4-wheel drive models and provides simultaneous actuation of both front and rear differential locks. The result is true 4-wheel drive with both front wheels locked together and turning at a speed proportional to the rear wheels. Unlike ‘limited slip’ systems, when disengaged, Hydralock operates as a normal differential, so tyre scrub and soil damage are reduced and tyre life is extended.

Choice of PTO systems

As on cab models, there is a wide choice of PTO systems including 540 and 1000 rev/min, economy and ground speed PTO so all implement and power take-off requirements can be met efﬁciently.

Simple servicing and minimised routine checks are other key areas in reducing down-time. The MF 5400 Series has a number of signiﬁcant design features; some large, some small, to help make life more simple:

• Large diameter, oil-cooled, multi plate clutch, for a long service life, with no adjustment required.

• Self-adjusting brakes.

• Maintenance-free battery.

• There are no more than ten, readily accessible, grease points.

• Engine oil dipstick, ﬁller, ﬁlters and lift pump are all grouped on the left side of the engine.

• Transmission oil and ﬁlters only need to be changed every 1200 hours, with an engine oil change only needed every 400 hours.
