IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING
WHEN USING ELECTRIC APPLIANCES, BASIC PRECAU­TIONS SHOULD ALWAYS BE FOLLOWED TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK, AND INJURY TO PER­SONS, INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING:
1. Read all instructions before installing or using this heater.
2. This heater is hot when in use. To avoid burns, do not let bare skin touch hot surfaces. Keep combustible materials, such as furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes, etc. and curtains at least 3 feet (0.9 m) from the front of the heater.
3. Extreme caution is necessary when any heater is used by or near children or invalids and whenever the heater is left operating and unattended.
4. Do not operate any heater after it malfunctions. Disconnect power at service panel and have heater inspected by a rep­utable electrician before using.
5. Do not use outdoors.
6. To disconnect heater, turn controls to off, and turn off power to heater circuit at main disconnect panel.
7. Do not insert or allow foreign objects to enter any ventilation or exhaust opening as this may cause an electric shock, fire, or damage to the heater.

8. To prevent a possible fire, do not block air intake or exhaust in any manner.
9. A heater has hot and arcing or sparking parts inside. Do not use it in areas where gasoline, paint, or flammable liquids are used or stored.
10. Use this heater only as described in this manual. Any other use not recommended by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
11. This heater is intended for comfort heating applications and not intended for use in special environments. Do not use in damp or wet locations such as marine or greenhouse or in areas where corrosive or chemical agents are present.
12. When installing, see INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS for additional warnings and precautions.
13. For safe and efficient operation, and to extend the life of your heater, keep your heater clean - See MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
To prevent a possible fire, injury to persons or damage to the heater, adhere to the following:
1. Disconnect all power coming to heater at main service panel before wiring or servicing.
2. All wiring procedures and connections must be in accor­dance with the National and Local Codes having jurisdic­tion and the heater must be grounded.
3. Power supply must enter through the prepunched hole in the wiring compartment.
4. Verify the power supply voltage coming to heater matches the ratings as shown on the heater nameplate.
CAUTION: ENERGIZING HEATER AT A VOLTAGE GREATER THAN THE VOLTAGE PRINTED ON THE NAMEPLATE WILL DAMAGE THE HEATER AND VOID THE WARRANTY AND COULD CAUSE A FIRE.
5. CAUTION - High temperature, risk of fire, keep electrical cords, drapery, furnishings, and other combustibles at least 3 feet (0.9 m) from front of heater. Do not install heater behind doors, below towel racks, or in an area where it is subject to being blocked by furniture, curtains or storage materials. Hot air from the heater may damage certain fab­rics and plastics.
6. To reduce the risk of fire, do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids in the vicinity of the heater.
7. This heater is to be mounted horizontally on the wall only. DO NOT install vertically.
8. The following minimum clearances must be maintained:
Bottom of heater to floor - 18” (457 mm). Top of heater to ceiling - 12” (305 mm) Ends of heater may be next to adjacent wall
9. Do not operate the heater without the grille installed.
10. Do not use this heater for dry out as the paint, plaster, saw­dust and drywall sanding dust will permanently damage the heater and must be kept out of the heater.
General
The HT500 Utility Heater is designed for horizontal wall mount­ing only. The built-in thermostat allows for adjustment of the heat output from 40˚ to 70˚ F. The heater is factory wired for use at 240/208 volts but can be re-wired for use at 120 volts.

Mounting
1. Remove the grille cover by removing the 2 screws on the front of the cover.
2. Position the heater on wall at desired mounting location maintaining the minimum clearances, see Figure 1.
NOTE: The heater MUST be mounted horizontally to allow air flow freely upward through the heating element. Thermostat can be located towards either end of heater.
3. Securely fasten the heater to the wall with screws or bolts using the four (4) pre-drilled holes in the heater back (Figure 2)

Wiring
1. Bring power supply cable to heater and install into heater wiring compartment through the pre-punched 7/8” (22mm) hole in the end of control box. Be sure to use cable clamp on cable as required by the National Electric Code.
2. Connect the supply ground wire to the heater using the green colored ground screw.
3. To operate the heater at 208 through 240 volts, connect power supply wiring to heater wiring following the wiring dia­gram shown in Figure 3. do not use the white wire marked “n” for wiring to 208 through 240 volts.
4. To operate the heater at 120 volts requires the heater to be re-wired as shown in Figure 3 by connecting blue L2 lead wire to wire connection of the other element blue lead wire and thermostat blue lead wire. Remove the L2 wire marker. Connect 120 volts to the black L1 lead and the white N lead. See Figure 4.
5. Complete the installation by replacing the grille cover using 2 screws removed earlier and 4 additional screws from parts bag. Remove thermostat knob from the parts bag and install.

OPERATING
MAINTENANCE
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Heater must be properly installed before operation.
2. Turn on the power supply to the heater.
3. Rotate the thermostat clockwise to the warmest setting. If the air temperature is below 70˚F the heater should come on and in a few moments the heating element will become warm. If the air temperature is above 70˚F, the heater will not operate. A check of the thermostat setting has to occur when the air temperature is below 70˚F
4. The thermostat range is from 40˚F at full counterclockwise position to 70˚F at full clockwise. Position thermostat at desired location. Thermostat will automatically cycle the heater on and off to maintain the desired temperature.
NOTE: The heater is designed to provide freeze protection and the thermostat may allow the heater to come on at the lowest setting if the space temperature drops below 40˚ F.
INSTRUCTIONS
It is important to keep this heater clean. Your heater will give you years of service and comfort with only minimum care. To assure efficient operation follow the simple instructions below.
ALL SERVICING BEYOND SIMPLE CLEANING THAT REQUIRES DISASSEMBLY SHOULD BE PERFORMED BY QUALIFIED SERVICE PERSONNEL.
TO REDUCE RISK OF FIRE AND ELECTRIC SHOCK OR INJURY, DISCONNECT ALL POWER COMING TO HEATER AT MAIN SERVICE PANEL AND CHECK THAT THE ELEMENT IS COOL BEFORE SERVICING OR PERFORMING MAINTENANCE.
User Cleaning Instructions:
1. After the heater has cooled, a vacuum cleaner with brush attachment may be used to remove dust and lint from exterior surfaces of the heater including the grille openings.
2. With a damp cloth, wipe dust and lint from grille and exterior surfaces.
3. Return power to heater and check to make sure it is operat­ing properly.

All products manufactured by Marley Engineered Products are warranted against defects in workmanship and materials for one year from date of installation, except

heating elements which are warranted against defects in workmanship and materials for five years from date of installation. This warranty does not apply to damage from accident, misuse, or alteration; nor where the connected voltage is more than 5% above the nameplate voltage; nor to equipment improperly installed or wired or maintained in violation of the product’s installation instructions. All claims for warranty work must be accompanied by proof of the date of installation.
The customer shall be responsible for all costs incurred in the removal or reinstallation of products, including labor costs, and shipping costs incurred to return products to Marley Engineered Products Service Center. Within the limitations of this warranty, inoperative units should be returned to the nearest Marley authorized service center or the Marley Engineered Products Service Center, and we will repair or replace, at our option, at no charge to you with return freight paid by Marley. It is agreed that such repair or replacement is the exclusive remedy available from Marley Engineered Products.
THE ABOVE WARRANTIES ARE IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, AND ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE WHICH EXCEED THE AFORESAID EXPRESSED WARRANTIES ARE HEREBY DISCLAIMED AND EXCLUDED FROM THIS AGREEMENT. MARLEY ENGINEERED PRODUCTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING WITH RESPECT TO THE PRODUCT, WHETHER BASED UPON NEGLIGENCE, TORT, STRICT LIABILITY, OR CONTRACT.
Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above exclusion or limitation may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
