Ausgehend von den fünf Prototypen der V 200 (1968 umbenannt in BR 220), die ab 1953 erprobt wurden, begann ab 1956 die Ablieferung der ersten 50 Serienmaschinen dieser Diesellokomotiven an die Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB). 1958 folgte die Lieferung einer zweiten Bauserie von 31 Stück. Geliefert wurden diese Lokomotiven von den Firmen ATLAS-MaK und Krauss-Maffei. Die V 200 war von zwei V-12-Dieselmotoren angetrieben, die austausch

bar von MAN, Maybach (MTU) oder Daimler-Benz (MTU) geliefert wurden. Mit Abgas-Turbolader leistete jeder Motor 1 100 PS, bei der Nachfolge-Baureihe 221 (ab

1962) sogar 1 350 PS.

Die Verbindung zum jeweiligen Drehgestell-Antrieb stellte ein hydraulischer Drehmoment-Wandler her, der unmittel

bar vor dem Anfahren mit Öl gefüllt wurde. Bei Leerfahrt oder leichter Last konnte die Lok mit einem Motor gefahren werden, im Normalbetrieb wurden beide benutzt. Die Drehzahl der Motoren ist bei der V 200 in 14 Fahrstufen deutlich hörbar, ebenso die dem jeweiligen Fahrzustand entsprechende Motor-Belastung. Im Volllast-Bereich galt die Maschine als besonders laut. Daher wurden als Sig

nalhörner leistungsfähige Druckluft-Typhone eingebaut.

Die letzten 220er wurden 1984 aus dem Dienst der DB genommen, die 221er erst vier Jahre später. Mehrere ins Ausland verkaufte Maschinen sowie einige deutsche Museums-Loks sind heute noch zu sehen – und zu hören.

In 1956 the series production of the ﬁrst 50 units of the class V 200 diesel locomotive (redesignated class 220 starting in 1968) was begun, which derived from the 5 prototypes that had been tested starting in 1953. In 1958 a second series of 31 units was delivered. These locomotives were built by the companies ATLAS-MaK and Krauss-Maffei. The V 200 was powered by two V-12 diesel motors that were delivered by MAN, Maybach (MTU) or Daimler-Benz (MTU). With an exhaust gas turbocharger, each motor provided 1,100 horsepower, even 1,350 horsepower with the class 221 successor series (starting in 1962).

A hydraulic torque converter, that was ﬁlled with oil directly before the locomotive was started, produced the connection to the running gear for each truck. Running under no load or with a small load, the locomotive could be operated with one motor; in normal operation both were used. The motors’ rpm as well as the corresponding motor load for a given speed was clearly audible in 14 speed levels in the V 200. For that reason a particularly powerful air horn was built into each locomotive.

The last class 220 units were taken out of service by the DB in 1984, the class 221 units four years later. Several locomotives sold abroad as well as several German mu

seum locomotives can still be seen – and heard – today.

La livraison des 50 premières locomotives diesel V 200 (rebaptisées BR 220 à partir de 1968) a débuté en 1956, sur la base des 5 prototypes, qui furent mis à l’épreuve à partir de 1953. La livraison d’une deuxième série a eu lieu en 1958. Ces locomotives ont été livrées par les sociétés ATLAS-MaK et Krauss-Maffei. La motorisation de la V 200 se composait de deux moteurs Diesel V-12 livrés selon les cas par MAN, Maybach (MTU) ou Daimler-Benz (MTU). Grâce au turbo-compresseur, chaque moteur développait 1 100 ch, et même 1 350 ch pour la série suivante 221 (à partir de 1962).

La liaison avec chaque entraînement de bogie était assurée par un convertisseur de couple hydraulique qui se remplissait d’huile juste avant le démarrage. En cas de marche à vide ou de charge légère, un moteur sufﬁsait; en exploitation normale les deux moteurs étaient utilisés. Sur la V 200, le régime des moteurs est facilement audible avec ses 14 crans de vitesse ainsi que la charge au mo

teur correspondant à chaque état de marche. En régime à pleine charge, la machine avait la réputation d’être très bruyante. C’est la raison pour laquelle on utilisa de puissantes cornes de signal à air comprimé comme klaxons.

Les dernières 220 furent retirées du service de la DB en 1984, ce n’est que quatre ans plus tard que les 221 subirent le même sort. Aujourd’hui encore, il est possible de voir – et d’entendre – plusieurs machines vendues à l’étranger ainsi que quelques locomotives allemandes de musée.

De V 200 werd door twee V-12 dieselmotoren aangedreven die, onderling uitwisselbaar, geleverd waren door MAN, Maybach (MTU) of DaimlerBenz (MTU). Uitgerust met rookgasturbo leverde elke motor een vermogen van 1100 pk, bij de opvolger, serie 221 (vanaf 1962) zelfs 1350 pk.

De verbinding met de beide draaistel-aandrijvingen geschiede door middel van een hydraulisch koppel-omvormer die vlak voor het wegrijden met olie gevuld werd. Als losse loc of voor een lichte trein kon de loc met èèn motor rijden, echter in normaal bedrijf waren beide motoren in gebruik. De 14 stappen in het toerental van de motoren is bij de V 200 duidelijk hoorbaar, evenals de verschillen in de motorbelasting afhankelijk van de treingewicht. In vollast gold deze machine dan ook als zeer luidruchtig. Hierdoor moesten er zware persluchthoorns gebruikt werden als locomotiefﬂuit.

De laatste locs van de serie 220 werden in 1984 bij de DB buiten dienst gesteld, de serie 221 vier jaar later. Ver

schillende van de aan het buitenland verkochte machines, evenals enkele Duitse museumlocs, zijn heden ten dagen nog te zien en te horen.

Lokparameter einstellen mit der Control Unit

1. Voraussetzung: Aufbau wie Graﬁk S. 18. Nur die zu verändernde Lok ist auf dem Gleis.

2. „Stop“- und „Go“-Taste gleichzeitig drücken, bis „99“ in der Anzeige aufblinkt.

3. „Stop“-Taste drücken.

4. Lokadresse „80“ eingeben.

Umschaltbefehl am Fahrregler dauernd schalten.

Dabei die „Go“-Taste drücken.

6. Licht bei der Lok blinkt. Wenn nicht, ab Schritt 2 wiederholen.

7. Registernummer für den zu ändernden Parameter eingeben (=> Liste auf Seite 20).

8. Fahrtrichtungswechsel betätigen.

9. Neuen Wert eingeben (=> Liste auf Seite 20).

10. Fahrtrichtungswechsel betätigen.

11. Vorgang beenden mit Drücken der „Stop“- Taste. Anschließend Drücken der „Go“-Taste.

Setting Locomotive Parameters with the Control Unit

1. Requirement: Setup as in diagram on page 18. Only the locomotive to be changed can be on the track.

2. Press the “Stop” and “Go” at the same time until “99” blinks in the display.

3. Press the “Stop” button.

4. Enter the locomotive address „80“.

5. Hold the speed control knob in the reverse

direction position constantly. Press the “Go” button while you do this.

6. The headlight on the locomotive will blink. If no, repeat starting at Step 2.

7. Enter the register number for the parameter

to be changed (=> List on page 20).

8. Activate the direction reversal.

9. Enter new value (=> List on page 20).

10. Activate the direction reversal.

11. End the procedure by pressing the “Stop” button. Now press the “Go” button.

Hinweis: Bei der Mobile Station / Central Station ist eine Änderung der Adresse nicht notwendig. Loks mit mfx-Technologie melden sich selbstständig an sobald sie aufgegleist werden. Diese Anmeldung erfolgt normaler

weise innerhalb ein paar Sekunden. Die sonstigen Parameter (Höchstgeschwindigkeit, Anfahrverzögerung, Bremsverzögerung, Lautstärke) kön

nen über das entsprechende Untermenü in der Mobile Station / Central Station verändert werden.

technology register themselves independently with the controllers the moment they are placed on the track. This process of registering with the controller usually takes place within a couple of seconds. The other parameters (maximum speed, acceleration delay, braking delay, volume of the sound effects) can be changed with the appropriate

submenu in Mobile Station

/ Central Station.

1. Select the locomotive from the locomotive list.

2. Change to the submenu “EDIT LOC”.

3. Change to the submenu “VMAX”, “ACC”, “DEC” or

“VOL”.

4. Enter the new value and accept it into the system. Please note the information in the instructions for the Mobile Station / Central Station.
