EXERCISE INS T RUCTIONS

Using your ROWER will pr ovide you with several benefit s , it will improve your physical fitness, t one m us c le and in conjunct i on with a calorie controlled diet help you lose weight.
1.

The Warm Up Phase

This stage helps get the blood flowing around the body and the muscles working properly. It will also reduce t he risk of cramp and muscl e injury. It is adv isable to do a few stretching exercises as show n below. Each stret ch should be held for approx imately 30 seconds, do not force or jerk your muscles into a s tretch - if it hurts, STOP.
2.

The Exercise Phase

This is the s tage where you put the ef fort in. Aft er r egular us e, the muscles in your legs will become more flexible. Work to your but it is ver y i mp or tant to maintain a steady tempo throughout. The rate of work s hould be sufficient to raise your heart beat into t he t arget
one shown on the graph below.
z
This stage should last for a minimum of 12 minutes though most people start at about 15-20 minutes
Page 11
11
3.

The Cool Down Phase

This stage is to let your Cardio-vascular System and muscles wind down. This is a repeat of the warm up ex ercise e.g. r educe your t empo, continu e for approxi mately 5 min utes. The stretching ex ercises shou ld now be re peated, agai n remember ing not to f orce or jerk your muscles into the stretch. As you get fitter you may need to train lon ger and harder. It is advisabl e to train at least three times a we ek, and if possible space your workouts evenl y thr oughout the week.

MUSCLE TONI NG

To tone muscle while on your ROWER yo u will need to hav e the resist ance set quite high. This will put more st rain on our leg musc les and may mean you can not tr ain for as long as you would like. If you are also t rying to improv e your fit ness you nee d to alter your trainin g program. You should train as normal during the warm up and cool down phases, but towards the end of the exercise phase you should increase resistance making your legs work harder. Y ou will have to reduce your speed to keep your heart r ate in the target zone.
WEIGHT LOSS The important factor here is the amount of effort you put in. The harder and longer
you work th e more calo ries you w ill b urn. Effect ively thi s is the sam e as if you were training to improve your fitness, the difference is the goal.
