Welcome
Thank you for choosing this Manhattan Freeview HD Digital Set Top Box. Not only can you receive over 50 digital TV channels, and up to 24 digital radio stations, but you can also receive high definition channels from your existing aerial. Your Freeview HD Digital Set Top box will also automatically upscale the picture quality of standard definition channels when you connect it using the HDMI cable supplied.
It’s really simple to use; it’s all done using the clear, easy to understand on-screen menus which are operated from the remote control. It also has a reminder function so that you won’t miss your favourite programmes.

A digital box lets you access the free digital channels that are broadcast in the UK. It uses a digital signal, received through your normal aerial and lets you watch it through your existing television.

Connecting to a HD Ready TV
Connect the cable that comes from your aerial to the RF IN socket on the back of your set top box.
Connect the HDMI cable that came with your set top box between the ‘HDMI’ socket on the back panel of your set top box and a HDMI socket on your TV.

Put batteries in the remote control
Open the battery cover of the remote control and put two AAA size batteries so that the ‘+’ and ‘-’ marks on the batteries match the ‘+’ and ‘-’ marks inside the remote control. Replace the battery cover.

Plug in and switch on
Insert the 12V DC connector into the ‘12V DC IN’ on the back of the set top box and connect the mains lead to a mains socket.
Switch your TV On and select HDMI.
Your set top box will turn on automatically.
The first time install screen
The first time install screen will appear on screen.
Follow the instructions on screen to complete the installation.

Daily use
We have divided this user guide into separate sections, so that you can find the information you’re looking for more easily. This section covers the day to day functions that you will use most often.
Using standby
When you’re not watching TV, you should set your set top box to standby.
Press the [STANDBY] button to switch between on (Standby Indicators blue) and standby.
If you plan to leave your set top box unattended for a long time, put the set top box in standby and wait 5 minutes before switching it off at the mains.
DON’T FORGET! Whenever you switch into standby, the set top box will perform a search for all available software upgrades. This will take up to 5 minutes to complete.
DON’T FORGET! If your set top box is connected to the mains supply and a power-cut occurs, your set top box will turn on automatically when power is restored.
Changing the channel
You can also select the channel you want to watch by using the [P+] and [P-] buttons on the remote control. Alternatively you can use the number buttons to key in the channel number.
When you change the channel the information bar will be displayed for a few seconds.

This shows the details of the programme currently showing and the next programme.
Changing the volume
You can change the volume using the [VOL+] and [VOL-] buttons on the remote control. You can turn off the volume by pressing the [MUTE] button. To turn it back on press the [MUTE] button again.
The information screen
If you want to see information about the programme you are watching, you can press the [i] button.

Use the [p] and [q] buttons to select different channels, and the [t] and [u] buttons to view the now and next programmes.
DON’T FORGET! If you want to set a reminder, you can press the [OK] button when a future event is selected.
Audio description
Audio description is an additional narration that describes all significant visual information such as body language, facial expression, scenery, costumes - anything that is important to the plot of the story, event or image.
Press the [AD] button to toggle this setting on and off.

Audio channel
Sometimes different audio languages are available with certain programmes or channels.
Press the [AUDIO] button to see the available languages.

Select the audio channel that you want to use.

Use the [p] and [q] buttons to select a different audio channel. Press the [OK] button to confirm the setting.
Subtitles
Press the [SUB] button to toggle the subtitles on and off.
DON’T FORGET! Not all programmes have subtitles. You can use the information bar to see if the blue ‘SUB’ icon is shown.
DON’T FORGET! When you change channel subtitles will be turned off automatically. If you want subtitles to stay on all of the time, select On in the subtitles setting menu. See page 15 for more information.
Daily use
Aspect ratio
You can select the aspect ratio or screen size which best suits your TV depending on the programme that you are watching.
Programmes are broadcast in both 4:3 (square) and 16:9 (widescreen) formats.
Press the [WIDE] button to toggle between the available formats to best show the programme.
Output source
Press the [TV/AV] button to switch between TV and the Scart socket output.
Home button
To return to watching live TV from any point in the main menu, programme guide window or the channel list press the [HOME] button. The current screen will close and the first channel in the programme guide will be shown.
Back button
Press the [BACK] button to return to the previous screen or menu.
