4. Safety Devices
Thermal overload circuit breaker
The motor of the grinder is protected by an overload circuit breaker,
which interrupts the electric circuit of the motor when the device is subjected to electric overloading. To be able to re-start the grinder, the reset
button on the back side of the casing must be pressed.
The user has no infl uence whatsoever on this operation. In case of repeated tripping of the circuit breaker, an expert must be consulted since this could cause
damage to the motor winding.
Motor protector (winding shield)
The grinder is protected against thermal overloading by a motor protector (thermostat, inserted in the winding). Whenever the winding of the
motor heats up to an impermissible level, the motor protector interrupts
the electric circuit of the motor. Following a cool-off phase (approx. 1 hr.),
the motor protector is switched on again automatically and the grinder
can be re-started.
Finger protector / Magnet holder
A combined fi nger protector / magnet holder is fi tted in the hopper of
the grinder. It is supposed to prevent the user from reaching into the
running grinding mechanism. At the same time, it also prevents ferrous
foreign objects from getting into the grinding mechanism. Every now
and then you should clean the magnet since adhering foreign objects
could be hanging from the magnet.
5. Setting-up and Basic Adjustment
A grinding test run is carried out on each grinder in the manufacturer‘s
factory. This is why you may fi nd ground material residue in the grinding
mechanism!
5.1 Setting-up Area
Place the grinder on a level surface free from vibration.
Never operate the grinder in moist, or even worse, in
wet surroundings.
5.2 Installation
You have received your grinder in operating condition. Now you only
need to connect it to a power supply system. Proceed as follows:
Protect your device with a separate pre-fuse (not included in the scope of supplies) according to the information provided under Item 2 „Technical data“.
Make sure that the pre-fuse is not overloaded by other consuming devices (e.g. fan-forced heaters, deep
freezers).
Determine whether the mains voltage and frequency
correspond to the information on the rating plate.
Insert the plug into the available grounded outlet.
Never remove the fi nger protection!

6. Operation
6.1 Operating instructions for the grinder
1. By moving the rotary knob, set the required grind degree (to the left
for coarse coffee powder, to the right for fi ner coffee powder).
2. Only fi ll whole coffee beans into the hopper. Close the hopper.
3. Press the handle of the bag holder down and push the completely
opened bag, which has been smoothed along the folds, over the
spout. Let go of the handle and the bag is held fi rmly in position.
4. Now you can switch on the grinder. Knock the base of the bag a
number of times whilst grinding. This allows the maximum capacity of the bag to be used.
5. When all the coffee has run through hold the base of the bag
loosely in one hand and with the other press the handle of the bag
holder and allow it to knock against the spout 2 or 3 times. This removes any ground coffee powder which may still be attached to the
inside of the spout.
6. Now switch off the grinder and remove the fi lled bag from the
spout.
7. The grinding process is terminated.
6.2 Operating instructions for the grater
1. Remove the pusher from the feeder tube and fi ll the tube approx. ¾
full with products to be grated and then fi t it back into position.
2. Now switch the grater on.
3. The pusher pushes the products to be ground against the semicircular grater basket with its own weight. In this way you achieve
superb, evenly ground products. The pusher can be pushed gently
e.g., in the case of bulky products to be ground. However, under no
circumstances must you slow the motor by pushing too hard.
Only use the enclosed pusher to push goods to be
grated.
4. After the grating process is fi nished, operate the stripper (black button on the back of the grater housing). By knocking on the button,
the residues of the products grated fall into the drawer.
5. Now switch the device off and pull the drawer out of its brackets.

Have the polarity checked by
specialised personnel.
Clean the hopper magnet.
8. Grind Adjustment
The grinder has been precisely adjusted by the manufacturer. However,
if the ground material is no longer fi ne enough after a longer period, the
grinder must then be re-adjusted according to the following procedure:
1. Use a screwdriver to unscrew the fastening screw in the middle of
the rotary knob and remove the rotary knob.
2. Switch on the grinder.
3. Then rotate the exposed adjusting spindle (see Fig. below) very
carefully and slowly in clockwise direction until a slight rattling
noise (contact of the grinding disks) can be heard and then rotate
the adjusting spindle immediately back again in antic lock wise direction. Attention: The discs must not touch each other!
4. A grinding test run, now to be carried out is supposed to result in
fi ne-gritty grain. If the ground material is too fi ne, it can get stuck to
the grinding mechanism so that the material to be ground can no
longer continue to descend into the grinding mechanism!
It is important to ensure that no „rattling“ noise of
the grinding disks can be heard! Their service life will
otherwise be signifi cantly reduced!
In case of other malfunctions or continued faults, please contact your dealer or your authorised customer service centre.
5. If the adjustment you have made does not fulfi l your expectations,
correct the fi neness as described above.
6. Place the rotary knob on the adjusting spindle so that the arrow
of the knob is positioned precisely on the symbol „fi ne“. Clockwise
rotation must no longer be possible.
10
Page 11
SPEZIALMÜHLEN | SPECIAL GRINDER
7. Insert the fastening screw of the rotary knob and tighten it fi rmly
with a screwdriver.
Adjusting spindle
If the result is not good enough the grinder then needs cleaning or you
have to change the grinding discs.
9. Cleaning the Grinder / Grater
Always pull the power supply plug out of the outlet
before carrying out any maintenance or cleaning
work on the device!
Observe the safety instructions under 1.2!
9.1 Cleaning with GRINDZ™ Grinder Cleaner
We recommend cleaning your shop grinder once a month with our
GRINDZ™ Grinder Cleaner.
Simply take the recommended dose of 70 - 80g for shop grinders and
drop it into the empty grinder hopper. You can also use the cup of the jar
for dosing. A full cup will yield between 35 - 40 grams.
Adjust machine setting to medium and operate as if grinding coffee
beans. Once complete, we recommend passing twice as much coffee
through to purge any residue.
9.2 Cleaning the grinder casing
Clean the casing of your grinder every now and then with commercially
available mild cleaning agents. In addition, you should also clean the
magnet in the hopper from time to time by removing any foreign objects that may have become stuck because otherwise this could result
in clogging.
Do not let any foreign objects fall into the grinding
mechanism!!
9.3 Cleaning the grinding mechanism
1. Pull out the power supply plug !
2. Rotate the rotary knob (11) to „coarse“.
3. Unscrew the two screws (13) on the grinder casing cover (12) and
then remove this cover.
4. Take the carrier (10) out of the slot of the pre-breaker.
5. Pull the pre-breaker (9) off the motor shaft. Use a screw driver.
6. Clean the grinding mechanism with a fi ne brush and remove any
foreign objects.
11
Page 12
SPEZIALMÜHLEN | SPECIAL GRINDER
7. Before pushing the pre-breaker (9) back onto the shaft again, lubricate the shaft with non-corrosive, resin-free and foodstuff- compatible grease (e.g. Vaseline).
8. After you have pushed the pre-breaker onto the shaft, line up the
two slots so that you can then easily re-insert carrier (10).
The round side of the driver must point towards the
motor.
During re-assembly, no ground material should stick
to the surfaces where the grinder casing and the
grinder casing touch each other.
10. Screw down the grinder casing cover (12) tightly with the two
screws (13) while changing the side several times.
11. Rotate the rotary knob to the desired grind degree. The grinder is
now ready for operation again.
Poppy seed grinder shall be cleaned once a week!
9.4 Cleaning of the Grater
It is important that the grater is cleaned once a week (depending on the
products that have been grated). This is very easy.
1. Pull the mains plug out of the socket.
2. Unscrew both star handles off the grater housing and pull off to the
front.
3. The grater basket is now exposed and can be cleaned as can the
cover with the feeder tube and the pusher.
4. The machine is put back together again in the reverse order.
5. Please tighten the star handles well.
9. Clean the contact surfaces of the grinder casing and grinder casing
cover (12) carefully in order to remove any form of soiling.
6. Connect the machine back to the mains supply and it is operational
again.
12
Page 13
SPEZIALMÜHLEN | SPECIAL GRINDER
10. Grinding Disc Replacement
If the grinding performance decreases and the ground products are hot
and irregular, you should change the grinding discs.
1. Take the grinder apart as described under “9” and remove the
grinding discs from the grinder casing and the pre-breaker
using a screwdriver.
2. Clean the surfaces of the new grinding discs thoroughly and
screw them in position tightly and evenly.
3. Close the grinder casing again as described under “9” and set
the grind degree again as described under “8”.
11. Exchanging the Grater Basket
1. Take the grater apart as described in “9.4”.
2. Push the enclosed holder with the drilled hole on the left guide rod
for the grater housing and place in the groove of the grater basket
holder (the angled side of the holder is positioned on the basket
holder).
6. Now the grater basket and the pressure disc can be replaced whereby the side of the pressure disc which has been exposed when turning must be pressed against the grater basket. Now the hexagon
screw can be screwed in together with the washer.
7. To tighten the hexagonal screw position the holder on the right
hand guide rod and let it engage into the groove on the grater basket.
8. Tighten the hexagonal screw well.
9. Remove the holder.
10. Replace the grater casing and the cover with feeder tube and the
two star handles and tighten well.
12. Push drawer into its holder and connect the machine to the mains
supply again. Now you can use the device again.
hexagonal screw
3. Now, using a 13 mm socket spanner you can unscrew the hexagonal screw in the middle of the grater basket by turning it to the left.
4. Now remove the old grater basket and remove the pressure disc.
5. Clean the surfaces of the new grater basket and the grater basket
holder well
