The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code: Blue: Neutral
As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this apparatus may not correspond
The wire which is coloured brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured red.
To switch on or off press button ( P ). When switched on, dial windows ( b ), ( b ) and are illuminated.

The simple dipole FM aerial provided should be connected to socket (2). For AM
In the case of weak signals, other aerials, which are better suited to local conditions, (300Ω) or socket (2) (300Ω). The AM aerial should be connected to socket (3) . If reception is noisy, an improvement can sometimes be obtained by connecting a lead between the earthing socket (2) and earth.

A pair of speakers can be connected to each of the outputs (1) and (1). The appropriate pair of speakers can be selected by means of buttons (3) and (3). When both buttons are pressed, simultaneous reproduction from both pairs of speakers is obtained. However, a decrease in power output will occur when all four speakers are switched on.
The speaker impedance should be at least 4 ohms. A lower impedance may cause the output transistor fuses to blow. Speakers having higher impedance can of course be used, but this will result in a decrease of power output. Correct positioning of the speakers is most important. They should not be placed too close to a record player, as, at high volume, speaker vibrations may affect the record player, resulting in distorted sound. The distance between the speakers should be the same as that between the listener and the speakers, but should, preferably not be less than 2 metres. It is recommended that the speakers are directed at an angle towards the listener, but the best positioning must be determined by experience.
In order to do full justice to the stereo sound, speakers must be correctly polarized. Consult your dealer. However, when using our speakers this problem does not arise, as they are correctly polarized and fitted with non-interchangeable plugs.
Stereo headphones (min 8 ohms) can be connected to output (). In order to switch off the speakers when listening on headphones, release buttons () and ().
The required sound level is set by means of knob (
The correct balance for stereo sound is obtained by means of button (D) . This should normally be in its centre position, but even if the listener sits 'off-centre' to the speakers, a true stereo impression can still be obtained by adjustment of the balance control.
The bass response increases when button 2 is turned clockwise.
The treble response increases when button (3) is turned clockwise.
When button () is pressed, the two channels are connected together and mono reproduction is obtained.
To boost treble and bass at low volume press button 🖗 .
To switch on treble attenuation filter press button 6.
Set input selector () to 'FM mute' (muting switch on).
Set input selector 1 to 1 M mute (muting switch on). Tune in to the station required by means of tuning knob 1 , frequency dial 1 , field strength meter 1 and tuning indicator 1 .
First make an approximate tuning of the station, so that the pointer of the field strength meter shows maximum deflection (to the right). Then fine-adjust tuning, until the pointer of the tuning indicator is in the centre of the mark U . If tuning in to stations with low signal strength, the input selector is set to position 'FM' (muting switch off).
If stereo is transmitted and the received signal is of sufficient strength, a red dot on the frequency dial lights up and stereo reproduction is obtained. If during stereo reception interference should occur this can be removed by pressing button 6 . However, reproduction will then become mono.
Note: when receiving stereo it is important that the aerial is of high quality and correctly installed, as otherwise interference may occur.
Set the input selector 1 to position 'AM' and tune in to the desired station by turning knob 1 and observing field strength meter 1 ; the latter shows maximum deflection when the tuning is correct. (The tuning indicator 1 is operative only on FM).
The set has an input @ at the rear for a record player which has a magnetic pick-up. Sensitivity/impedance: 2 mV/47 kΩ.
To connect the record player set the input selector 1 to position 'phono'.
A tape recorder can be connected to socket (2) 'TAPE', (sensitivity/impedance: 150 mV/47 kΩ), at the rear of the set. For playback press button (4) 'monitor'. For recording release button (4) and select required programme source by means of input selector (1) .
If the tape recorder has separate heads for recording and playback, listening in via tape can be carried out, i.e. it is possible, after pressing button () 'monitor', to listen to the recorded sound. By alternatingly pressing and releasing this button the recorded sound can be compared with the original.
The auxiliary-input 2 ), (sensitivity/impedance: 150 mV/47 kΩ), is intended for connection of other potential programme sources.
To connect the auxiliary-input set the input selector 1 to position 'aux'. Copying of tapes can be effected by connecting two tape recorders, one (set for playback), with the recorded tape, to the auxiliary-input and the other (set for recording), to the
tape of which the recording is to be transferred, to the tape recorder socket (2) , and then setting the input-selector to position 'aux'.
If no sound is heard in the speakers, ascertain that button (4) is not in pressed-down position (does not apply at playback from a tape recorder). Also ensure that correct pair of speakers has been switched on (buttons (3) and (9)). Do not expose the set to excessive heat or moisture. When cleaning cabinet use a soft cloth, moistened with water or a weak soap-solution. Never use strong detergents, petrol, alcohol, thinning agents or solvents of any kind.
