HOW TO USE
To ensure an accurate temperature reading, avoid eating, drinking any liquids, exercising, bathing or smoking for 15 minutes before taking a measurement.
1. Disinfect the thermometer probe with ethyl (rubbing) alcohol. Place a probe cover over the tip of the thermometer. Press the on/off button. The display will show 188.8ºF.
2. The display will now read L with a blinking ºF and the unit is now ready for measurement. Place the probe in the desired measurement location (oral, under arm, rectal).
3. Once the ºF has stopped blinking, the peak temperature has been reached.
4. After reading the measurement, turn the thermometer off, dispose of the used probe cover and clean the thermometer. If the thermometer is accidentally left on, it will automatically shut off after 10-15 minutes.
5. Children should always be supervised by an adult during the measurement process. After use, the thermometer should be stored in a safe place, out of the reach of children.
NOTE: If the measured temperature is higher or lower then the thermometer’s measuring range, the display will read HiºF or LoºF. NOTE: Using a probe cover may result in a 0.2 ºF difference from actual temperature.
_____________________________________________________________ RELIABLE METHODS TO MEASURE TEMPERATURE
ORAL USE
Place the probe tip well under the tongue. The mouth should remain closed during measurement to ensure an accurate temperature reading. Do not bend or bite the probe while it is in the mouth. A normal temperature by this method is 98.6ºF.
UNDER ARM USE
Wipe the armpit with a dry towel. Place the probe tip under the armpit and keep the arm firmly pressed against the body during measurement to ensure an accurate temperature reading. A normal temperature by this method is 97.6ºF.
RECTAL USE
If your doctor recommends a rectal temperature, place a probe cover over the tip of the thermometer and lubricate the probe with a water-soluble jelly for easier insertion. Do not use petroleum jelly. Gently insert the tip of the probe NO MORE than 1/2 inch into the rectum. STOP if you meet any resistance. Hold the thermometer in place during measurement to ensure an accurate temperature reading. A normal temperature by this method is 99.6ºF.
REMEMBER: Temperature readings vary from person to person and thermometer to thermometer. Find your normal temperature and watch for changes. If you compare readings between two thermometers, it is possible to have two different readings even if both thermometers are within their accuracy ranges.
_____________________________________________________________ LAST TEMPERATURE RECALL
While the thermometer is OFF, press and hold the on/off button for approx. 2 seconds. The last temperature measured will be displayed along with the letter “M” under the degree (º) sign for approx. 3 seconds.
_____________________________________________________________ CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Clean the thermometer by washing with soap and warm water or rubbing alcohol. Do not use thinners or chemical solvents to clean. Wipe dry with a soft cloth. Do not boil or clean the probe in the dishwasher, this will cause the unit to malfunction and will void the warranty.
