SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

The most careful attention has been devoted to quality standards in the manufacture of your new telephone. Safety is a major factor in the design of every set, but, safety is YOUR responsibility too.
Please read carefully the helpful tips listed below and on the next page. These suggestio ns wi ll enab le you to take full advan tage of your new telephone. Then, retain these tips for later use.
Use
When using your telep h on e eq u ipm e nt, the following safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons.
Read and understand all instructions.
Follow all warnings and instru c tio ns mark ed o n th e te le ph one .
This telephone can be hazardous if immersed in water. To
avoid the possibility of electric shock, do not use it while you are wet. If you accidentally drop the telephone into water, do not retrieve it until you have fir st unplugged the l ine cord from the modular jack. Then, call service personnel to ask about a replacement.
A void using the telephone during electrical storms in your
immediate area. There is a risk of electric shock from lightning. Urgent calls should be brief. Even though protective measures may have been installed to limit electrical surges from entering your business, absolute protection from lightning is impossible.
If you suspect a natural gas leak, report it immediately , but use
a telephone away from the area in question. The telephone’s electrical contacts could generate a tiny spark. While unlikely, it is possible that this spark could ignite heavy concentrations of gas.
Never push objects of any kind into the equipment through
housing slots since they may touch hazardous volt a ge points or short out parts that could resul t in a risk of electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the telephone. If liquid is spilled, however, refer servicing to proper service personnel.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble this
telephone. There are no user servi ceable parts. Opening or removing covers may expose you to hazardous voltages. Incorrect reassembly can cause electric shock when the telephone is subsequently used.

Service

1. Before cleaning, unplug the telephone from the modular wall jack. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.
2. Unplug the tele phone from the modular wall jack. Be sure to refer servicing to qualified service personnel when these conditions exist:
— If liquid has been spilled into the telephone. — If the tel e phone has been exposed to rain or water. — If the tel e phone has been dropped or the housing has
been damaged.
— If you note a distinct change in the performance of the
telephone.

NOTE: The 6220 telephone is designed for use with a DEFINITY, MERLIN LEGEND, or DIMENSION system.
The 6225 is designed for use on Centrex lines.
DATA jack — For connecting a device such as a modem to your telephone. This jack is labeled . Personalized Ring — Allows you to select one of two different ringing patterns. This two ringing patterns are labeled . Power Jack (on 6225 only) — For supplying sufficient power for all features of the 6225 telephone. This jack is labeled . 10 Programmable dialing butto ns — The 10 buttons on which you can program freq uently dialed telephone numbers, emergency numbers, or
feature co de s .
Pause button — For inserting a 1.5-second pause delay into a telephone number stored on a programmable dialing button. Ringer Volume control — A 3-position switch to control the volume for the tone ringer. Slide it up (away from you) for a louder ring, down
(toward you) for a quieter ring. The volume control is labeled .
Speakerphone button — For accessing the built-in speakerphone and microphone combination. Message light — A red light that flashes when a message has been left for you or when a call is coming in (that is, when the telephone is ringi ng).
This light is labeled .
Dial pad — The standard 12-button pad for dialing telephone numbers. The letters “Q” and “Z” hav e been added to the appropriate dial pad keys
for directory access, and the “5” button on your dial pad has raised bars for visually-impaired users.
LINE jack (on bottom of the teleph one) — For connecting a line cord to your telephone. This jack is labeled LINE. Hold button and the Hold light — The Hold button is used for putting a call on hold. The red light next to goes on to remind you that
you have a call on hold .

Redial button — For redialing the last number you dialed from the dial pad or from a programmable dialing button. Handset cord jack — For connecting the handset to your telephone. Flash button — For using features such as Conference with business communications system. Handset and Speakerphone volu me control — The volume control (labeled ) is used for raisi ng or lowering the volume of the hands et
when the handset is being used, or for raising or lowering the volume of the speakerphone when the speakerphone is active. To raise the volume level, press the upper half of the button labeled ; to lower the volume, press the lower half of the button labeled .
Mute button — For turning off the microphone associated with the handset or built-in speakerphone so the other person on the call cannot hear
you.
Program button — For storing telephone numbers on the programmable diali ng buttons. Handset — For placing and receiving calls.
